heres some test High Dynamic shot comparism. comparing with normal P mode, HD mode, and a real HDR shot merged in Photomatix in Merge Exposure mode, with the shots shot at +-2EV

first, the control. spot metering aimed at sky
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

and now the built in HD mode in Art mode
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

And finally a real HDR shot with +-2EV done with Photomatix
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

not bad i'd say. the HD mode is very close to the HDR's sky colour, the house and tree at the bottom left had been lightened up, but still not as much as a real HDR.

overall, it ain't bad for a fake HDR, in between a real HDR and a normal shot lol.
*
Hmmm... I think the High Dynamic mode shouldn't be confused with HDR. The High Dynamic feature is just like the Shadow Optimization feature found on most cameras. It is meant to balance the exposure of the subject if the background is very bright or there exist a high contrast lighting. In the situation, the subject would be very dark because the camera will attempt to compensate exposure of the background. If it doesn't do this, the background would be overexpose and the brightness will bleed into the rest of the picture. As a result of this compensation on exposure the subject will naturally turn dark.

This really is the limitation on sensor because its dynamic range is narrow especially for a sensor this small. This High Dynamic feature allows it to give priority to the subject during exposure compensation to prevent it from being expose too dark. This feature is available now because Panasonic has found a way to increase the exposure compensation to +/-3 than the original +/-2.

However, nothing beats a real HDR. If you're on FB, join up the Panasonic Lumix page where the photographers show photos from their Tibet Expedition. Those pictures were taken with TX7 and using HDR photo technique.

I think you must update from 1.2 to 1.3.....
Later only 2.0.

Cause 2.0 didn't consist of the 1.3 changes.....
*
I think the firmware v2.0 is not an incremental update but a full update. In firmware update process, the system wipes out the entire EROM space and then rewrite it entirely according to the new firmware you wish to flash. This is called flashing. Not to be confused with program updates typical on a PC where it can dynamically change certain files while retaining others.

new firmware download suspended.

is it got problem?

is it save to update?

Hmmm doesn't sound good. Probably the server is down. What about older firmware updates like v1.1, 1.2, 1.3? Is it still there? If they are its definitely a update recall. Probably due to some issues.

Found a suitable size for LX3+ Adapter...

Lowepro Apex 60AW Follow link > http://www.flickr.com/photos/25983110@N05/...in/photostream/

or

National Geographic NG1152 Mini Camera Pouch > http://shashinki.com/shop/national-geograp...uch-p-1311.html

of course the camera has to enter sideway as shown by the flickr user...

Neat... Now have to decide which one... Classic look or modern time...

I've tried the Lowepro Apex 60, it's quite tight and not very easy to get it in and out fast. But I never thought of trying it sideway!! doh.gif

Are u sure the NG1152 can fit LX-3 with adapter? It doesn't looks like in the picture.

Thanks for the info anyway! icon_rolleyes.gif

COPIED FROM ANOTHER FORUM:-

p.s. does not seem like a big deal after all... custom mode is referring to what hor? Manual mode?

QUOTE
This is what Panasonic emailed me about the issues some are experiencing with firmware 2.0 for the LX3.

As many people have previously noted, Panasonic temporarily suspended the availability of v 2.0 firmware for the DMC-LX3. Panasonic's Call Center told me that while using the “Custom Mode” some customers may experience one of the following issues:

1. 1:1 aspect ratio may not function as intended.

2. While zooming, zoom magnification indication may be incorrect, and may stop updating.

3. The on screen guidelines may be off center.

4. The time display for the built-in memory may display the wrong time.

A corrected firmware version should be posted on or about October 20, 2009.

For any customers who have already downloaded and installed v 2.0, and who are experiencing any of these problems, they should "RESET" the camera using the "SETUP MENU" option. This will restore normal operation, but any custom setting will be reset to the factory default settings.

This information will be posted to the Panasonic LUMIX Global Site soon very soon. Customers who have posted this firmware on public file sharing servers should stop distributing this firmware immediately.

Most Important: Please do not to revert back to v 1.3 from v 2.0 as it may cause some side effects.
[COMPLAIN]
