QUOTE(Hammond Tan @ Nov 8 2009, 11:19 PM) collarbone will be gone once you bulk up or become fatter. Well, based on my own experience, going to failure on bodyweight exercises will help you improve with them.vertical line dividing stomach is because your too thin. even fat guys have that but it doesn't show because it's under layer of fats. those aren't muscles. i suggest you eat A LOT and lift heavier. Added on November 8, 2009, 11:21 pmi'm asking because those 'till failure' exercises.....failure comes in very fast. will it slow down my progress? eg. dips 5 times failure =..= |

QUOTE(bagata @ Nov 21 2009, 09:22 AM) guys, need help... I have the exact same injury, except mine was from deadlifts. You should see a doctor just to be sure.i hurted my back yesterday while doing squat... when i push (when doing squat) i felt a sharp pain, then i straight stop training. after that went back, i'l feel a sharp pain whenever my back is arched or curl to certain angle... 2day the pain is a little bit lesser, anyone experience this prob before? |

QUOTE(bagata @ Nov 21 2009, 10:14 AM) what is the doct say bout ur condition? take medi? I got an x-ray and he confirmed that I had damaged a muscle/ligament in my lower back. I got a few painkillers but they don't do much good. Been injured for nearly 3 months now. Can't do any lower body work because anything that puts my body in a squatting position or arches/curls my back to a certain degree causes a sharp pain in my lower back which goes down to the pelvic area.i think its wrong posture... cz that reps i can feel i lost sum tightness... p/s : should be lost posture in the middle of the reps... |

QUOTE(ken86 @ Nov 21 2009, 11:29 AM) where exactly is the pain projecting ? The lumbar spine or thoracic region ? what did the doctor said ? lordotic or kyphotic curve ? I m no expert but x-ray is to diagnose the problem . You need a proper physiotherapist to get you back on track. painkillers is just gonna make matters worse, get to the root of the problem, rehab , start light. it's better to take two steps back now for long term progress instead of getting an injury and can't lift forever. Uh, the lumbar spine. I highly suggest you pick up stuart mc gill's lower back disorder book , very "sciency" but contains tons of info. Added on November 21, 2009, 11:31 am seriously, the glute and the lower back may be part of the posterior chain. but giving suggestion without knowing where exactly is he injured, imho is dangerous. I don't know what those two terms are, but he didn't mention them. Alright, I'll look for that book. Thanks. Edit: Googled the spinal structure. The pain is around the lumbar spine and the sacrum. QUOTE(Florian @ Nov 21 2009, 03:37 PM) Have you seen a doctor before this? If you go to a government hospital, the houseman (junior doctor) will refer you to an orthopedic surgeon. But anyway, can you describe more about the pain? It's site, severity, how long ago the pain started, any radiation of the pain as in does the pain goes to anywhere of the body, does it come and go or it's always there, any specific movement makes it more/less painful, is there any trauma/injury/accident to your back or what were you doing before the pain all started? Or do you have any other symptoms like fever, headache, lost of appetite etc? Sorry, what I meant was he ruled out there being any bone damage. If the pain is severe or has been there for a long time ie chronic, they will take an X ray/MRI of your spine to investigate the cause of your back pain. FYI, MRI in a private hospital is very expensive. If the pain is not severe or not interrupting you daily activities, the doc will just give you panadol (paracetamol) or maybe an additional neurobion (Vitamin B12). Sure confirm? FYI, you can't see muscles and ligaments in an X ray unless they are calcified. Maybe the doc saw the X ray and there's no bone problem so he said it's a soft tissue injury. |

QUOTE(Desvaro @ Nov 21 2009, 08:14 PM) Sorry, but I couldn't resist highlighting that part out lol Really good read, thanks!Anyway to those of you having back problems, perhaps this will help: http://robertsontrainingsystems.com/nlarch...r+14th%2C+2009/ http://robertsontrainingsystems.com/nlarch...r+21st%2C+2009/ http://robertsontrainingsystems.com/nlarch...mber+5th,+2009/ But anyway, lots of foam rolling or rolling with a tennis ball will definitely help. Also, focus on some glute activation work. If your back pain does not allow you to squat or deadlift, consider alternatives such as reverse lunges, lunges, bulgarian split squats, single leg romanian deadlift etc. And I forgot about all those other exercises. I think I was just too scared to try anything in case I did more damage. =/ |

QUOTE(ken86 @ Nov 26 2009, 09:04 AM) Reasons to squat : - 3rd one FTW. 1.) "There is simply no other exercise (and certainly no machine) that produces the level of central nervous system activity, improved balance and coordination, skeletal loading and bone density enhancement, muscular stimulation and growth, connective tissue stress and strength, psychological demand and toughness, and overall systemic conditioning than the correctly performed full squat." –Mark Rippetoe 2.) “Very few movements require the same degree of dedication, desire and determination as heavy squats. Squats are more than a physical strength builder and may be the only movement that builds a person’s character. Life is about standing up AFTER a heavy load takes you down.” – Dave Tate 3.) “It's hard to puke doing curls.” – Dave Tate just to name a few reasons. |

Added on December 12, 2009, 1:55 pm thanks for the site. it is really helpful. i don't mean to be really muscular. what i wan to archieve is moderate body shapes [ for example, those artists starring on movies] because i am a really skinny guy. |

I believe the bent one you're referring to is an EZ curl bar, which are used for specific exercises only, ie curls and tricep extensions. If you're going to be benching, squatting and/or deadlifting, you want to use the straight barbell.

QUOTE(Majinity @ Jan 2 2010, 04:09 PM) I should go with the low reps high weights then? Great and thanks. Another, the 3months target is for me to get the correct BMI not the muscles yet. But 6months to a year, for the big muscles. Since you're just starting out, it's in your best interest to just use a barbell without weights and learn the correct form. Only after you've got solid form, then should you start adding weight. It seems that they (gym people) teach us to higher reps low weight for beginner. |

Damn, finally got to the gym today after 5 months of being injured. Strength levels have severely plummeted. Even 30lb DBs felt like a ton.
