QUOTE(limeuu @ Oct 27 2011, 02:16 PM) this relative of mine went through this earlier at sunway for clayton entry....if it is the same thing (it should be), it is then just a series of scenarios and you are asked to give your opinions....eg, how much do you think your parents should make decisions for you?....2 interviewers, one talking, the other just observing..... I reckon it's the same, 2 interviewers too! |

QUOTE(alexjichien @ Oct 27 2011, 05:58 PM) Try this site " medstudentsonline" . Search for forum threads on the Monash interviews. There's lots of useful information shared by Aussie students, found it very helpful myself 2 years ago. Yes. Any idea if the scenarios given in the interviews are the same for locals and international students? For the locals, they have 8 stations, but only 2 for internationals if I understand correctly. @cckpr, some issues centre on ethics etc, I think they are looking at how the applicant process his/her thoughts. |

Gee, the reports on the number of trained doctors being churned out every year changes all the time. While 4500 was the commonly known figure, this report says "4000" in 5 years time. I was under the impression it's 7000 then!

Anyone here with any experience with applications to Irish unis (Cork or Trinity)? Are there additional tests to be taken (like UKCAT) for international applicants?

QUOTE(onelove89 @ Nov 8 2011, 07:15 PM) well there's always uncertainty everywhere =) all we can do is do our best and hope for the best. Hopefully they will open up more internship seats. Having said so, there's a huge cutback on cost and budget in tassie health care at the moments, there's been closing down of hosp beds and mass lay off of staffs. =( it is kinda sad to hear really. Oh that's not very good news at all. Hope things will turn around in the next couple of years then. |

Apart from IMU, which other local medical schools make interviews part of the application process?

QUOTE(cckkpr @ Nov 24 2011, 03:12 PM) As far as I know and seen, UCSI, Monash Sunway and Melaka Manipal. Oh forgot about Monash Sunway! Wonder what applicants will be asked. Am familiar with Monash Clayton interviews, and am quite sure it Sunway's will be somewhat similar.I also manage to speak to the Dean of Newcastle Medical University in JB (Numed) over the weekend at the UK Education Fair and he also said there would be an interview. Added on November 24, 2011, 3:40 pm QUOTE(Syd G @ Nov 24 2011, 03:21 PM) Monash Sunway.. majority of the interviewers were from Monash Clayton. So what were you asked? For me the pre-interview (waiting for your turn) was more nerve-wrecking than the interview itself... heh heh.. Added on November 24, 2011, 3:45 pm QUOTE(limeuu @ Nov 24 2011, 03:11 PM) when people with ccc and cgpa 2.0 are accepted, it is quite pointless to conduct interviews..... Hope the ccc and cgpa 2.0 are small in numbers! Then again, there's so many local med schools to choose from. Wow, here the students choose, elsewhere in UK/USA/Aus, the schools choose the students. interviews are only of use to help differentiate and select the best candidates from a cohort of good students with equivalent excellent results..... the problem with most ipts med schools currently is the inability to find enough 'qualified' students with money, after the minimum qualification requirement by mmc...that is why gov scholars are much sought after....they come with guaranteed funding, and are generally of better quality than private students..... and why some med schools have resorted to provide 'scholarships' and loans.... QUOTE(Syd G @ Nov 24 2011, 03:51 PM) MMI. Scenarios were given and the interviewees were asked to answer based on "what should this person do". Son just had his in Clayton today, both topics were "situational". Interesting scenarios and questions, and no "why do you want to be a doctor" (or variations of it) questions at all. I am sure they're quite sick of the answers too.. LOL!But it was quite obvious that they were assessing the candidate's opinion on teamwork and the life as a medical doctor. |

QUOTE(limeuu @ Nov 24 2011, 04:06 PM) it is now pretty clear, the motivation to be a doctor is less important than the attributes that enables one to function efficiently as a doctor...... In the malaysian context, pretty soon the medical graduates here will not be taken seriously, as entry into the program and the medical schools itself may be dubious. The worse bit would be this general perception will include the decent IPTAs and IPTSs. Maybe the respective (international) medical boards/councils will scrutinise properly.in the uk/oz context, the hazards placed along the application pathway is more than adequate to weed out the cursory, uninterested applicants, and they can safely assume those who reached the interview phase will have indeed adequate genuine interest in medicine..... |

Makira, stay clear from Monash and other unis which use Multiple Mini Interviews. The questions in the links you've listed are the traditional questions. A sample of a situational interview (part of MMI) would be something like the following:
"Genetic blueprinting is now possible. With this technology, we are now able to determine if a person has a higher risk of contracting a certain disease. For example, genetic blueprinting is performed on a baby and it is found that the baby has a great risk of getting cancer in life. This technology can be quite pricy. 1. What are the advantages of this technology? 2. What are the ethical issues that come with this technology? 3. How is it important for the government to monitor health and illness issues of the community? If I understand it correctly, the same scenario is hardly ever recycled in the interviews.
