Can this thread be pinned? Or a new one titled "Almost everything about Medicine" or something...someone else suggested this as well, in a related thread.

sorry, bit random here. Im in 3rd year now. currently find it hard to relate the pathophysiology of diseases to every symptoms of it ... and had a tough time finding it on the net.

eg. in molar pregnancy, one of the symptoms includes symptoms of  hyperthyroidism, WHY is it so???? ..

N in things like this, how do we actually go search for the pathophysiology of this kinda tiny biny symptoms related to the huge disease? are we doctors supposed to know about it???
*
I would suggest spending a bit more time searching for the right sites on the net.

hi guys, im new here. just noticed this thread today. tongue.gif

btw, need ur opinion and advice guys. is it normal for medical student to fail their exams? i'm studying in egypt in 2nd year.recently i got my exam results, and i failed two paper which are anatomy and histology (fyi, for the 1st and 2nd year, we studied basic anat, histo, biochem, and physio. starting from 3rd year we'll study the pharma, patho and so on.). that means i have to repeat my 2nd year again in my 3rd year in egypt. sad.gif

i can say maybe i didnt study well because of the pressure knowing that i only got 6-7 days only to do all the revisions (and im kinda last minute too.) i love studying medic subjects as its not really hard for me to understand, its just, the last minute studies ruin all my hardwork attending classes for a year.

and also, the things that kinda haunted me right now are, i always think how to face my ex-classmates after this. im too ashamed with my rsults, and i feel like wanna give up. any advice? sad.gif
*
Actually a lot of doctors say that it's just very hard to get into the course (this is way before the current tsunami of med schools), and that once in the course, if you study consistently and systematically, you will get through every year. Why did you allow yourself only "6-7 days" to revise?

If you want to give up because of pride, then perhaps you should really reconsider continuing with the course. If you can set aside your pride, and are really interested in pursuing the course and the profession, then repeat year 2, study smart and hard. Hope this helps a teeny bit.

Also can I just say "ditto" to limmeu's post above.... smile.gif

Your college mate - are YOU still in college? I was under the impression that you're in med school or have graduated. Good job contributing consistently in this forum.

so where do the other international students come from?....

i wonder, with so many conditional offers, how many will actually get a firm offer at the end...they are just trying to lock in people, because they know they are never the top choice of most students..... smile.gif

Son was advised by college against applying to Newcastle, and he didn't bother asking for reasons! doh.gif

So those that you were referring to were offered based on alternate applications? How does this work?

taylor's placement centre of taylor's college sj has a special arrangement with newcastle to place up to 10 international students.....but application MUST be done through them.....

some of these 10 places are reserved for msia gov scholars (jpa/mara), not sure how many.....based on previous years' figures i think 5 or 6, the rest is open for private students.....this year 30 students are shortlisted for the pqa test and interview.....

Thanks, good to know.

Best like country ,people and standard

You can't go wrong with UK. People all over are generally the same, you will have bad apples. More importantly, it is how you as a person will adapt to a new culture and environment. I get this feeling you are still in secondary school, but correct me if I am wrong. Bear in mind however, if you wish to pursue medicine in countries like UK and Australia, your grades will determine your "placement"...it's a "they choose you, not you choose them" situation.

@Limmeu, this is right your alley! rclxms.gif

hmm, seems to be a lot of applicants for med 2012. There's only 1 msian in the 2011 batch. kinda sad though.
*
I was made to understand there's 20 places for international students. I assume all 20 places were taken up in 2011? quite a lot of singsporeans are heading to UTAS, judging from the sg student forums.

What has a Jazz graduate, a Geography graduate and a Physical Education graduate got to do with a medical program. All these are senior management and HODs in Alliance Medical University and they are termed as "Meducators".

Thought you were telling a joke, then i read the second sentence. Not funny eh? Next they will emphasize "holistic" med course, and improperly defining"holistic".

From what I have read, there are a few people who got conditional offers for UTAS '16. If anyone needs help (information etc.) I'm sure onelove as well as I would be happy to explain a little further. Please pardon that there might be late replies though, exams.

Thank you! Firm offers will only be made after results are out in mid December.

One thing is clear, the real issues are never considered, and never thought out, as there is only agenda.

they still need to meet the 5b's in spm....although that would cast the net a lot wider than 3b's/3.0.......

yes, i foresee that to be the next BIG thing......in-house foundation/pre-med programmes leading to their own degrees.....un-moderated....it's easy to give everybody minimum bbb/3.0.........

it's already happening in some foundation programmes anyway....smile.gif

Very possible then that JPA med scholars will be doing their courses in the country, a win-win situation for the government and the uni/college stakeholders. In the process of reaching an equilibrium (a moving target in this case), the country will be inundated with doctors with questionable standards. Private practice will soar further, as those with means will naturally sought out private specialists. Medical insurance will get even more competitive and innovative as well. Medical care between the haves and have-nots will definitely be vastly different. Policy makers (read useless minister) are only interested in short term gains to benefit their political agenda. It should be a governemnt policy that the Agung, PM etc receive medical treatment only from government specialist hospitals, no flying off to Singapore etc.
