Now that the cloud movie collection has started in the West, it would be even better if the service provider actually provide an option to upgrade your movie from previous resolution to later version (remastered, 4k, 8k and so on) for a small fee. Such sales model would be better than people buying a medium (bluray etc) and stuck with the same technology/resolution and having to folk out extra money just to buy the same movie again when better/higher resolution version become available in the future. But then again the cheapest way to enjoy movie legally nowadays is to simply subscribe to services like Netflix and Iflix biggrin.gif

The presumption is quite true I guess, at least for older goods that is truly produced by the West and not imported from Japan/China/Taiwan. Those items from the West are built to last, whilst the current generation items are built to be replaced with short life cycle of 2/3 years. Smartphone typically starts to malfunction by the 2nd year even if you take good care of it. We used to be surprised looking at functional electircals being throw out in Japan but decades later the rest of the world is doing the same when new technology keeps coming out with newer gadgets that made old gadgets redundant. It's not very environmentally friendly but that's what keep the economy flowing I gues.... doh.gif

If your TV can support hdmi2.0 it should be compatible I guess. 2014 model still quite up to date.... thumbsup.gif
Edit: Apparently hdmi 1.4 can also do 4k, so even if your 4k player has hdmi 2.0, they're always backward compatible.

Sorry..

I beg to differ..
But if ur VHS tapes hv better vdo than ur dvds , than there must be sumting wrong wif ur dvds or player.. its two different genres of equipmnt.. besides tapes run magnetic meaning there is a slight loss of quality every time u play it as there is contact, discs on the other hand nvr touch anyting so in theory it lasts forever..

Editted to add :
Like from SD Dvd to HD Bd, l hv only seen one bd ttl which had mediocre vdo as compared to a dvd , all de rest hv much better pics..
N even thou' l hate upgrdng, sometimes l dont hv a choice cos of better vdo.. [ I can live mono sound.. ]

If I'm not mistaken I believe there were some types of higher definition VHS tapes that can store higher quality video.
To me VHS definitely beats VCD, I believe he meant some of his VHS collection has video quality that come close to DVD.

S VHS which was de last n superior tape format is 400 lines [De biasa one is only 240.. ]

DVD can be 480P

BD is 1080P ..

All tings being equal, the numbers tell all..

Of cos .. here in bolehland, l believe a pirated DVD can hv inferior quality compared to an original VHS tape la..

Actually the number of lines/resolution for VHS is merely an estimate/approximation.
VHS is an analog format, not digital format. In digital format we have definite value represented in 1 and 0. In analog there is no such thing as how many pixels or lines to make up an image, the further you zoom in, the more blurry the image becomes but never pixelated, but in the digital form, the further you zoom in, the more pixelated the picture becomes, you just see the matrix of dots/pixel making up the picture, there is no such matrix format in analog signal. The jagged edge effect is the result of digital format, an analog image will not have such artifact.
Of course with the advancement of storage technology, we are able to shrink those jagged edges when we further push up the resolution of an image.
You may count each step in the following graph as the resolution, but can you count the step (resolution) for the analog line where there is actually no step?
You need to know how reliable the numbers are before assuming the numbers do tell all.

Bought a Pioneer BDP180 player for my new unit, then kena this Cinavia error, drove me crazy. mad.gif  mad.gif  While browsing some *ahem* movies in a shop, saw this BOE Cinavia free player over the counter, bought from them at RM420.00 (Non 3D version), with 3D will cost additional RM100.00.

Set it up once I reached home and happily watching all my movies without hiccups. devil.gif  devil.gif  devil.gif
