QUOTE(Andrewtst @ May 17 2011, 02:13 AM) Samsung is region locked for DVD, I had BD-C5500 and it is locked but... it is pretty easier to unlock it, just Google around and you get the way to unlock the DVD region part. Sony wise is region FREE for DVD as my Sony S-370 is region FREE for DVD. ANdrew, compared C5500 and S370, how would you rate it?

QUOTE(Andrewtst @ May 19 2011, 10:28 PM) Performance wise sure Sony S370 win! It load faster, smoother and I not face any compatibility issue yet. For Samsung C5500, already face 2 original BD not playable, but.... for digital format (example MKV) support wise, Samsung far far win! Thanks, how about the Online (video streaming) features other than generic youtube, picasa, etc I really gets confusing!

QUOTE(shakiraa @ May 20 2011, 01:32 AM) Hi all, i'm interested in purchasing a blu ray player, have read through this thread, mostly recommend the sony s370 or samsung C5500.
Can i ask for recommendation of a Blu ray player that can act as a media player that cover most file format?
I know samsung C5500 can play mkv file, how about other file like avi, real media, wma etc.
thanks! For that you would need a Media Player

Getting a pirated BD playing on a BD player is just a waste, might as well, stick on to CD or DVD.

QUOTE(Andrewtst @ Jul 13 2011, 05:11 PM) Get original la, Amazon is quit reasonable from time to time promotion, or get from forumer here. Added on July 13, 2011, 5:12 pmMost is 25GB version v/s original 50GB (most new title now is 50GB)... so you know the different, and it ain't cheap. If I'm not mistaken, most of it not even 25Gb, its more of DVD-9 copy

QUOTE(iGamer @ May 18 2016, 01:28 PM) Seems like digital movie collection is the way to go. No broken player or broken disc, also more compatibility for future equipment, just need the online streaming box or video media player or just a smart tv. Yup...I have ditched (stopped buying) my DVD/CD/BR collection 4 years ago... Now I'm not sure what to do with those CDs...I have more than 1500 movies! sigh

QUOTE(iGamer @ May 19 2016, 09:55 PM) Wow, you must have spent a fortune, or a small fortune also If they are ahem disc..... If you have ahem disc, maybe a lot of them already filled with countless holes and become unplayable..... That's what happened to many of my previous collection I love how in the west nowadays the buyer also obtain right to digital copy on the cloud, meaning you can view those movie on any internet connected device (and future devices ) If only Bolehland can move forward where everyone no longer earn peanuts and cannot afford genuine copyrighted goods nobody wants ahem if they can afford good quality goods. lol if its ahem...I would have thrown without thinking Most of it was bought in US

QUOTE(iGamer @ May 20 2016, 08:31 AM) Now that the cloud movie collection has started in the West, it would be even better if the service provider actually provide an option to upgrade your movie from previous resolution to later version (remastered, 4k, 8k and so on) for a small fee. Such sales model would be better than people buying a medium (bluray etc) and stuck with the same technology/resolution and having to folk out extra money just to buy the same movie again when better/higher resolution version become available in the future. But then again the cheapest way to enjoy movie legally nowadays is to simply subscribe to services like Netflix and Iflix wow...thats a out of box thinking...good thoughts! I even have VHS collections...lol those are book sets....and the good thing about US sets, they have this fungal and anti stick coating, so pretty much it last forever The same goes to CDs and DVDs, they quality compared to there and our are totally different. some of my VHS picture quality are better than the DVD sold here...sigh

QUOTE(iGamer @ May 20 2016, 10:17 AM) You still have a working VHS player? It must be a high end machine for it to last for decades..... The last of its kind. lol...anything thats not local seem to last...I know its unfair generic statement...unfortunately in general all my equipment bought overseas seem to going on and on at times I wanted it to fail so I could get a new thing....like my microwave...its been with me for about 16yrs now...sigh...just dont want to die...lol
