myke: You're very attentive ! Kudos. laugh.gif So any guess to the other model eh? biggrin.gif

I think somehow AA does not have the right to produce the McLaren F1 GTR. So I think we would only expect the re-release to come from Minichamps.

Baronzemo: F430 Elites are cheap cheap only. Can buy 5 Elites with your Aston Gulf. drool.gif

Depending on what you're getting. If I have to buy USD 100 for only ONE that is my all time favourite car, I would go that route. Better buy something you really like than wasting money getting other cars because everybody has one or just because it's cheap.

The Maisto SLR is good, but there are many flaws around the corner of the bonnet.

Would like to know, comparing high end diecast like AutoArt & Kyosho, V.S High end car model kits done by decent modellers, which one would look nicer?

Is there such thing as Model Kit Cars that comes with Diecast body so we can do the details on smaller parts? You know get the best of both.

Models done by decent modeller based on resins like Starter, BBR, MR, Provence Moulage. MG Models, Versus can be very nice and have mode details when compared to Autoart / Kyosho. But the problem is sometimes there are models that Autoart / Kyosho makes but there's no equivalent in the resin kits and vice versa too. Resin kits are mostly limited to 1/43 and if you are looking at 1/18 scale, then it becomes harder not to mention that it becomes more expensive !

As for model kit cars that comes with diecast body, Porcher does 1/8 scale and there are a lot of aftermarket parts you can buy to make your model nicer. Very expensive. Tamiya 1/12 diecast comes semi-assembled and some parts you need to assemble yourself. Expensive too.

But there's also parts that we call transkits that can transform existing diecast to a different model variation. Please see the Hamann transkit example below;

http://cgi.ebay.com/1-18-APM-Hamann-Ferrar...id=p3286.c0.m14

See this website posted by AMG_soh some time back. If you look, there are some variations of the same base model that you can achieve by using transkits.

The only problem with model kit is getting the metallic look on the body like the diecast.

advocado: I think good paint and airbrushing skills can achieve the effect.

REALCollector: Lazy to take pics lah. biggrin.gif Will try and take a group photo tonight and post it here.

About the McLaren F1 GTR, I think Minichamps have already produced them in 1/43 scale already. Just not yet in 1/18 scale.

AMG_soh: Where to find additional rims to mod?

myke: Aiyoh, POISON lah you. mad.gif Yeah, very good guess about the CLK AMG. biggrin.gif

Speaking about 1/12, my recent haul below should shock and awe you too... laugh.gif

Anyway, another arrived in today from UK.

Any guesses? They are Bimmers. One is a 1/12 scale and two 1/43 scale.

Actually, this one has a story. The seller from UK seller TNT Express for shipping from UK using the Economy Express option. Using this option, I'm told (by TNT Malaysia) that the package will land in Singapore and brought in by truck to KL.

To my surprise, I got an invoice yesterday to pay the tax totalling RM 91.56. I argued that goods totalling less than RM 500 would not usually be taxed. TNT claims that since goods were brought in by truck from Singapore, any amount would be taxed on taxable goods. Secondly, I mentioned that nobody came to inform me that I had goods belonging to me that I need to clear myself or appoint a forwarder to clear it for me as what Pos Malaysia does it for my other stuff. I usually go to KLIA personally as I usually do not trust the forwarders to do it for me. They would just accept what the Kastam prints on paper and add their clearance chargers on top of it. But TNT claims that for goods below RM 500, they will automatically clear the goods on behalf of the recipients without asking. rolleyes.gif

So I ended up paying RM 91.56 of which RM 35 is their clearance charges, RM 1.75 for tax on top of tax and RM 54.81 for the duties. I also argued that the duties should be less since it should only be based on the declared GBP 40 value by the seller. But TNT claims that Kastam takes CIF (Cost Insurance Feight) as the value to be taxed. So the tax was based on RM 353.58 (231.91 from GBP 40, RM 2.32 for insurance and RM 119.35 for shipping).

The RM 54.81 duties were calculated as follows;

(353.58 x 0.05) + (353.58 x 1.05 x 0.10) = 54.81

Just thought I share this and hope those who go this route will be aware that cheap is not always good as it will turn out that you pay the same thing at the end of the day.

Is it not possible to ask the seller to lower the price when they declare?

That GBP 40 value declared was already lowered ! sad.gif

Well, it's not so bad after all since I got the items for a steal. It's not the money. It's the principle behind it that I will always contest.

Jchue73: I can feel how frustrating having paid those extra cost... I did kena stamp duty before for getting a handful of HW 1:64 frm overseas... since then I know how to counter them...

From my experience: You never ever declare the goods according to it's original value: But you have to consider what if the item loss? You will receive the compensation according to the declared amt. There are trade off between them... so you need to take some risk at times... Just like what I did, if you want to save.. go for Royal mail (Normal - NOT INTERNATIONAL SIGN FOR)... but no tracking no., normally takes abt 14 days. Make sure you tell the seller to write Contact No. on the shipping address.... I still prefer the ROYAL MAIL INTERNATIONAL SIGNED FOR - normally cost 8pounds for 2 pcs 1:43 models.... So it's never easy to buy frm overseas... doh.gif
