QUOTE(chinsc @ Sep 4 2009, 10:48 AM) advise please. can upgrade...but how would an OS upgrade make a touchpad more comfortable?is it good to upgrade my MBP full alu old model to SL? any chances it will make the touch pad more comfortable? tq QUOTE(cRazYee @ Sep 4 2009, 01:51 PM) Weird, I don't understand what you mean? yeap hehe...actually any laptop can be stolen like that. im just surprised they didnt lock the macbookpros like what we have hereMagSafe got nothing to do with that. Normal adapter will just unplug easily but it'll be very funny if one of the robbers come to the store the next day n ask to buy 23 MBP chargers... hahaha |

QUOTE(blizzzy @ Sep 6 2009, 11:32 PM) Don't know man. I've never used a MAC before. I won't compare it with a PC laptop. My gf's PC laptop runs fine with 2GB ram with Win7 it just screws up when playing games but I plan to run OSX SL with Windows 7 at the same time. i've seen ppl playing GTAIV with the 13 inch MBP looks smooth. Dun know if there will be enough space or if the mbp will bottleneck with both OS running. space is really ur choice. obviously it depends on how much stuff do you want to keep on ur notebook HDD. for some people 160gb is more than enough, and some people are struggling with 500gb. so you decide as for RAM, i think 2gb is enough but better go for 4gb (2x2gb) for future-proofing. anyway its cheaper to upgrade the RAM urself, but then you'll have a pair of 1gb rams doing nothing ;p |

QUOTE(bingbangboom @ Sep 7 2009, 12:41 AM) hey guys. i was told buy a sales rep at machines that if u upgrade ur hdd it will void ur warranty. apparently he said that there is a way the technician can know if it has been tampered wit. is this true? upgrading hdd for current macbooks (and pros) doesnt void the warranty. if the so-called technician said it does, he's wrong.QUOTE(petrofsky77 @ Sep 7 2009, 09:33 PM) Just one question ... I recently got my MBP 13" ... and i was casually cruising the Apple website when i saw tonnes of firmware updates for my MBP ... I've also recently upgraded the OS to SL ... so my question being ... do I still need to download all those firmware update and patch up my MBP? Or all those issues have already been addressed in SL??? just rely on Software Update. it'll show you what updates u need |

QUOTE(Crefigz @ Sep 10 2009, 03:06 PM) been using mbp for a couple of days now, 160gb surely is not enough. arghhhhhh.... and 2gb ram is still a little laggy seeing the thing boink boink boink on the dock and still boink and never comes up. QUOTE(Crefigz @ Sep 10 2009, 08:53 PM) Yea, I used up almost 120GB already. Virtual memory also kinda erm... laggy. i think your lag is caused by ur hard disk. any hard disk tends to slow down when almost full. RAM doesnt affect much on the 'boink boink' on the dock (unless u're talking abt launching an application the 2nd time, bcuz it's cached to RAM). the boink boink is normally the HDD looking for data of the app. i'd also recommend a 500gb WD scorpio blue or hitachi 5k500I want to upgrade but quite out of budget now. need to protect & upgrade of course, if u have the money, nothing wrong to upgrade ur RAM. but the performance increase for 8gb from 4gb is too little for what u're paying (more than double). |

QUOTE(jinaun @ Sep 13 2009, 04:24 PM) there is a default warranty deadline that ur macbook will start with, maybe a couple of months after it leaves the factory. i thought if it ends on 31st july 2010, it started on 1st august 2009?you can check your serial number online to find it out, and if u didn't register, apple will use that date or apple will update with a new date if you submit ur proof of purchase. eg. i bought my mbp on earlier this sept, but when i check the warranty online, it stated that my macbook warranty ends at 31july 2010, which means it starts at 31 jul 2009. after i register it, the warranty is adjusted/corrected to the day i register for the first time. |

i dont think price will go up...normally just better specs but price stay the same.
anyway, Intel had stopped Nvidia on working with chips that are compatible to intel chips (reports only mentioned the nforce, but i guess it includes the 9400m as well). supposedly intel was outraged when apple replaced the GMAs with the 9400M. i just hope the next 'refresh' wont see the return of the dreadful GMA chips |

QUOTE(chizzu @ Oct 22 2009, 11:18 PM) if you notice the new iMacs with Core i5/i7 processor is riding with ATI Radeon HD 4850 graphic card thx i just noticed that. so what's the chipset for the core i5/i7 models? So i guess no nvidia chipset for Core i5/i7 if intel were to replace the 9400M, lets hope its a better chipset. if it isnt, well, im expecting a price cut ;p i agree that the macbook is priced too near to the 13" mbp. with the 13" mbp at that price range, i think apply shud've priced the macbook lower so those PC types cant talk abt apple tax hehe. but no battery indicator? wuts up with that? |

QUOTE(SheepMekk @ Oct 24 2009, 11:28 PM) a rechargeable battery got a certain number of cycles before it starts to perform badly.i.e. if you have a new battery with just 1 cycle, maybe it can last for 5 hours. but after a while, maybe around 300 cycles (300 times the battery went from full charge to empty charge), maybe the battery can last for 2 hours like that. not accurate, but juz an example |

QUOTE(Xirality @ Oct 25 2009, 12:23 PM) Hey, Im planing to get a MBP(15" 2.53GHZ 9400m) but I don't know should I really need this MBP spec. if u want 15", that's already the best choice. 9400M can handle l4d no problem, but maybe not the highest spec.Im still a student, normally is web surfing, photo editing, sometime play l4d. What's your opinion guys? if u can bear with 13", more choices for you |

since your file source can store the MKV file, i guess its not a FAT32 partition. but your file destination is. a full-length MKV movie sure is more than 4GB.
you can use a file splitter app. Split & Concat is pretty good, from the people who made the popular HJ Split for windows. it breaks a file into smaller chunks. but then it wont be viewable until you join them back (using the same app). here's the link for split&concat, but u can google around for alternatives http://www.xs4all.nl/~loekjehe/Split&Concat/ the hard way is of course to transfer everything on the fat32 drive somewhere else, and format it into HFS (but a windows machine cant access) or NTFS (a mac cant access unless you install MacFUSE or ntfs-3g), then copy back ur files This post has been edited by dvlzplayground: Oct 27 2009, 09:42 AM |

QUOTE(dzerg @ Oct 27 2009, 02:49 PM) ive been dreaming owning a MBP since...forever! welcome 2 the club! hehehebut today..my dreams come true.. got myself 13" MBP!!! WUHUU!!! QUOTE(defectivelasagna @ Oct 27 2009, 03:51 PM) hey guys i'm just wondering if the new 13" macbook white can swap the hdd or not? because my friend said at 5400 rpm is realllly bad. yes you can swap them. but before u do that, hit ur friend on the head for saying 5400rpm is "realllly bad". obviously a speed of 5400 rpm is lower than 7200 rpm, but what matters is the read/write speed of the HDD. did you know a 500gb WD Scorpio blue (5400rpm) is faster than the 320gb Scorpio Black (7200rpm)? the capacity of the hard disk, or rather, the free space it has, is an important factor to the read/write speed. at best, the difference between an equally-sized 5400 and 7200rpm drive is not much, but the 7200rpm will give u vibration and noise issues.if u want substantial improvement in read/write speed, go for SSD. i think rm700+ will get you 64gb. |

i think most, if not all stock HDD in macbooks are the hitachi 5k series.
so it seems that we've pretty much established that the scorpio blue 500gb and the hitachi 5k500 is the best notebook hdd upgrade? |
