Today's top gainers mostly are finance stocks. If finance stock leads, does it mean the mini bull is here to stay for a while until next correction?

QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Jul 15 2009, 04:58 PM) I keep my realized profit out of the equation and just focus on the current portfolio when calculating my P/L. It helps me focus more and that's why I'm still down a bit.Mind you, I did buy some real dog stocks at the wrong price earlier in the year so I am now being punished for it. SAAG anyone?? |

Hi,
I am new to stock trading..read through the forum, hope to gain some knowledge and advise.. Most stocks have been going up for the past few days..wondering at this point of time, what counter is good to enter and whats the anticipated/recommended entry price? I prefer those reputable counter with good track records, moderate risk and moderate gain or medium term holding to gain on the dividend Since PBB is going to announce their dividend, is it still wise to enter now despite that the price is almost RM 10? Sifus out there, please advise TQ in advance |

Just a note that there are two news out there where PNB will be raising lots of money.....
Amanah Saham 1Malaysia = $10 billion Amanah Saham Malaysia = $1.5 billion Hence I would expect those who not in stock market will inject another $11.5 billion into our PNB who will then again proceed to prop our KLCI to 1200... $1.5 billion will be released on 21 July with 20k limitation per investor and open to all on 27 July. http://www.btimes.com.my/Current_News/BTIM...icle/index_html |

Hi g@m3rs ,
Never see you around before, so welcome. Here is my two cents worth, and really only my opinion. PBBank counter is really a solid counter. It held steady even when prices went down in March. It did not really break $7.00 and after that continue to rise. I started buying the counter when it was at $8.30. I average up (yes, you can average when prices are going up too) at $9.20 last week. Today already $10.00. I love this counter. So, in particular to PBBank, you can start somewhere. Don't "sai lang" everything into it one go. Maybe buy small lots, 1/2/3 and then if the price drop, you can average down. Unless you have lots of cash and and average at higher lots, you may want to make big initial purchase. If the price go up, you MAY choose to average up. You are still getting the price appreciation benefit too. You need to have a strategy. Don't just rush in to the counters or markets, but study carefully first. There are lots and lots of sifus in this forum i am sure will share with you. |

How do you think of Malaysia mobile service?I would say medium risk, if it goes down, i am able to hold but still want to look for solid and reliable counter..any idea? is BJTOTO ok? coz the price gone down quite alot..how bout DIGI? |

QUOTE(jasontoh @ Jul 15 2009, 09:56 PM) One solid counters I hold from Nov till now is YTLpower. Extremely solid. Even market rally, it will move 1-2 ticks only. Div payout from my buy price expected to be >8%. BJTOTO is ok, but make sure you have enough money to do dollar cost averaging. Digi? How do you think of Malaysia mobile service? Me too am looking for solid counter...currently my portfolio mainly lower cap..been eyeing for PBB |

today is a big surprise day..
KNM volume exceeds 1,000,000 and volume for most counters rise by 50%. the most shocking information is the CI break 2 resistant points and shoot up to 1,100 point psychological level. tomorrow will be a greater day. |

But do i need to spare some money for margin call as well? margin call? If I am not mistaken margin call is the top up you have to do when your counter drop too much during bad times and the bank wants you to pay for the facility you obtain from them.reit is same as any other counters is just that reits give consistent dividend either in quarterly or semi annual and the price is so snail moving. Reits is only good if you are for dividend and suitable for non risk takers and have holding powers. For me, I am for diversification and prefer dividend counters as should market crash, at least I have some dividend to spend. On the other hand reits dividend is in the region of 10%. So is pretty high. So far I only put 10% of my total investment in the reits. I will accumulate more. I like the 3 counters I have so far. It gives more than 10% growth besides dividend. Cheers |

that's quite a huge jump compared to activity during the last 3 weeks. a correction is imminent. Crazy oil speculators... they're seems to be tip toeing back.
Anyway, US crude supplies inventory are down but distilled fuel and gasoline inventories are up. Not sure how far Oil can move up.. perhaps up to $65 and if gasoline/distilled inventories does not go down, we'll definitely see a pullback. You cannot forever make TVs if the shops aren't selling them, right? IMO, DJ up too much, as do S&P500. It is close to hitting resistant and we may see pull back here - perhaps tomorrow, people may take some profits. This post has been edited by danmooncake: Jul 16 2009, 12:36 AM |

Good morning y'all sleepy heads! Wakey wakey and smell profits!!!
Anyway.. this morning has been the one of those euphoric money chasing bull session @ NYSE. Here's the results: DJ 8616.21 +256.72 +3.07% NAS 1862.90 +63.17 +3.51% S&P500 932.68 +26.84 +2.96% In summary, S&P500 broke above two levels of resistance line.. at 910 and 930.in one trading session. It all started with Intel, they beat the street estimates news yesterday after close, and we expect that to gap up already. The energy sector ETF (XLE) spiked 2% up on oversold condition for the Oil Services sector. Two hours in trading, US Oil inventories came in with report being drawn down but gasoline actually is up. I was puzzled as first, like I have said earlier how can TVs sales are bullish when people aren't buying but yet the manufacturers are reporting low inventory now? The market seems to completely ignore this. It is suppose to be a wash, but heck, since crude oil price came up $1 higher last night from Asia (with indication that China is sucking up more), Nymex traders decided to jack it up anyway, now are above the $61.. on the way back to $65 again. It is almost like fire sale.. I can't believe my eyes when the leverage ETF Oil that I had bought gone above 8% in one trading session. Gotta take some profits there! Crazy isn't it? By mid session, the US Fed pumps out more good news, economy expected to contract less. Another notch up on the indices.. Lastly, two major credit card providers (AMEX and Capital One) reported that they're are seeing less delinquencies.. in June, with that.. S&P500 crossed over the 2nd resistance line. This is crazy market (or maybe people just don't want it to tank). Just one week ago, we're doom, with visible heads and shoulders and now we're yelling RECOVERY! Let's BUY BUY BUY! Woo hoo! Let see if KLSE can rally off this one. This post has been edited by danmooncake: Jul 16 2009, 04:55 AM |

Let see if KLSE can rally off this one. Added on July 16, 2009, 5:32 am Pros Say: Expect a Bull Run By Autumn Stocks jumped on Wednesday following a slew of economic reports that fueled optimism that the economy is showing stronger signs of a turnaround. Readings on consumer prices, New York manufacturing, industrial production and mortgage applications each provided hope. Coupled with a fairly strong start to earnings season, investors continued a rally that began Monday, focusing Wednesday on technology leaders. Read and listen to what the experts had to say... Expect a Bull Run By Autumn We will get a bull run in the markets by autumn, said Clem Chambers of ADVFN. “I think we’ll see some good action before September comes,” he said. Although there is a dampening effect going on in the economy, it’s better than it had been in the past. “We will have volatility, but the worst is over so we will have a general move up over the period,” he said. S&P to Remain Steady Until August The S&P 500 is managing to hold at critical levels near 875 points, said Chris Locke of Oystertrade.com Management. "This general sideways trend and the market holding up could last into August," he said. “S&P at 875 remains a very critical area—If the prices break down through there, then we’re in for a further correction.” * Charts Predict: S&P Can Hold Firm Until August Economy Over the Worst We’re starting off earnings season in good shape, said Frederic Dickson of D.A. Davidson & Co. “I see the economy as finally stabilizing at a low level. We have volatility ahead of us, and I think that applies to tech as well, but the worst of the decline seems to be behind us,” he said. He expects the technology sector to be the market leader. * Investment Strategies Now: Bull vs. Bear Picks A Second Housing Bubble? Robert Shiller, co-creator of the influential Case-Shiller Home Price Index, said another housing bubble could be looming. “We’ve developed a much more speculative attitude toward housing,” he said and suggested the need for a second stimulus package. “We still have fundamental problems—loans aren’t being made aggressively enough, the Fed has to continue what it’s been doing, and we’re still in a problematic economy,” he said. * Mortgage Applications Rise as Interest Rates Tumble US Dollar Likely to Remain Soft for Rest of ‘09 Clifford Bennett of Fxmax expects the U.S. dollar to be quite soft through the rest of 2009. “China has $2 trillion on their books to play with—that suggests that they are investing less and less overseas, [which] underpins the view that the U.S. dollar is going to be quite soft for the rest of the year,” he said. * Track All Major Currencies Here Earnings Recovery? Not Yet "There’s still a lot of bad news to come out for this particular quarter,” said Ashok Shah of London & Capital. “The real recovery in the earnings probably is not going to start until the next quarter and the one after that." * CNBC's Complete Earnings Coverage Added on July 16, 2009, 5:34 amhttp://www.cnbc.com/id/31921195 This post has been edited by ABC2020: Jul 16 2009, 05:34 AM |

I think the news keep spinning... and momentum keeps building for now.
I was on line chatting with a lot of live traders and people who are actually living in US. People out in the streets aren't better off yet eventho the news are reporting that conditions are getting better. In the state of Michigan, with the auto industry massive layoff, millions already unemployment. California IOUs are worthless, and the state is going on default. Excessive homes with no buyers.. prices are still plummeting. REITs aren't seeing recovery yet. Where exactly are the green shoots? The companies perhaps are reporting less worse because of bottom line: they cut off excess, made it it look good on their books and look good enough for Wall Street to rally. Honestly, I do think the market got way ahead of itself.. perhaps setting up for another big correction. Do be very careful and cautious and keeps the tight stops for those trading. If the music stops, make sure you have the chair. GL to all! |

Today onwards, I won't be buying anything... until corrections comes in.
Only hold or sell now!!! Plan to sell PBB-CH tomorrow. This is the only shares that I don't have holding power until next year... |

I don't really predict....
I think market are over react on Intel financial report. I believe Q2 results for most company will be above expectation as Q1 was too low. IMO, Q2 results somehow already factored into the price already. That's why we see a huge rally in Mar-Apr... Can Q3 be very much better than Q2? If yes, then we may see some further rally... Else, market should be flat.... All these is just my opinion... No shooting pls! QUOTE(espree @ Jul 16 2009, 08:25 AM) QUOTE(debbieyss @ Jul 16 2009, 08:38 AM) |

Must look at PBB face to decide...
Anyway, any profit is good profit jor! Yesterday was the beginning of PBB-CH as PBB price hit 9.85. If ppl want to goreng, it will rocket (due to gearing). Since I took risk to buy PBB-CH 2 mths ago, I'm thinking of winning big or losing big. Now, only win 40%... Not meeting my target yet... At least 60% lar... Target 80%!!! QUOTE(chyaw @ Jul 16 2009, 09:25 AM) Must look at PBB face to decide... getting greedy yeah Anyway, any profit is good profit jor! |

We just enter Q3.... Q3 result will only be out in Oct onwards...
What I'm saying is when ppl find that their over value their stocks, they'll start selling them like what happen in mid June. I've no idea how long can this rally last.... QUOTE(debbieyss @ Jul 16 2009, 09:24 AM) |

QUOTE(AdamG1981 @ Jul 16 2009, 09:24 AM) Hello guys, eh, not internal workshop ar? is for outsider? I will be having a workshop every Wednesday next month at OSK HQ from 12 - 2 pm. I will be guiding those who are interested in futures and will touch upon technical / fundamental analysis. I will also include currencies and spx future in the workshop as a guide to trade our local futures. |

lao eh.. market like tat... really panic watching.. =.=''
btw.. just wanna ask.. since now CI consists of 30 counter.. the raise of 20pts today is not the same as the raise of 20pts last month already right? if for last month.. mayb CI is up about 8-10pts only right? in this new CI, the up and down is faster than b4 is it?? anyway.. thinking of some very shorterm play.. but no ball |

you guys dont intend to sell at this heights?
I may contemplate selling some, otherwise my portfolio value keep moving up & down within a range only. Sell some now & wait for the next drop because still economic uncertainties ahead. |

QUOTE(jasontoh @ Jul 16 2009, 10:14 AM) At least you still preparing bullet and not starting to shoot when you see a mini bull, unlike some of my friend. Always stuck at the peak actually i entered the market at the right time previously, which was in Feb 2009, the first month i entered stock market. But that time i used the wrong method (following the investment tool) and made me earned 50% less.So now got to prepare the bullets and re-enter again. I missed buying the stocks at the best price though but it's ok.... |

When market falls, usually it goes down to around 1.40, then move back up again to only this level of 1.60+. If only their bids succeed,(currently they are bidding) that we can see the next new high, I believe. Sigh, anyway, I'll get its dividends first then, go for next strategy. What about you, Jason? |

QUOTE(danmooncake @ Jul 16 2009, 05:48 AM) I think the news keep spinning... and momentum keeps building for now. Yup, the recovery is benefitting in Wall Street and equities market, ordinary people out there still struggling for job and pay.I was on line chatting with a lot of live traders and people who are actually living in US. GL to all! Company reporting better profit due to massive cost cutting measures, so eventually equities market follow suit, it is perfectly right and reasonable, But if recovery doesn't create more job, the economy growth won't be too robust. We need to see job creation before we can say the recession is over and equities will be in the real bull run at sustainable pace. Again, only financial company and employee will be getting pay rise and having good time because of recent recovery while poor people still suffering. The world is always rich 'eats' the poor. |

I hope US gov don't help. Need to let some weak one dies off, else everyone also simply do business as gov is always there to save them if they fall into deep shit.

still waiting for friend to come fetch me >.< anywayz i got this part of the news about CIT
A bankruptcy filing also could wipe out the $2.3 billion that the Bush administration invested in the company in December as part of the government's $700 billion financial rescue program. CIT would become the first firm bailed out by the government to subsequently fail. source : http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/conte...d=moreheadlines will the current market be affected by this? |

CIT is a major lender to retailers and other U.S. businesses, with more than $60 billion in finance and leasing assets. Trading in CIT shares was halted on Wednesday afternoon, pending word on whether the government would come to its aid as it has with other larger institutions, including Citigroup ( C - news - people ), Bank of America ( BAC - news - people ), American International Group ( AIG - news - people ), Fannie Mae ( FNM - news - people ) and Freddie Mac ( FRE - news - people ).
Apparently CIT isn't in the too-big-to-fail camp. Lehman Brothers ( LEHMQ - news - people ) was also judged to fall into this category, but its bankruptcy filing in September precipitated a crisis in the financial markets. In a brief statement, CIT said, "There is no appreciable likelihood of additional government support being provided over the near term. The Company’s Board of Directors and management, in consultation with its advisors, are evaluating alternatives." That ends days of tense negotiations with the Treasury Department, which was considering extending an aid package, possibly involving the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. Any aid might have included a temporary loan to help CIT strengthen its balance sheet so it could raise additional capital. Read All Comments But apparently the Treasury has drawn a line in the sand. To date this year, 53 deposit-taking banks have failed, and the FDIC is busy trying to prop up others. Another option for CIT would have been to be given access to the FDIC's program that guarantees debt issued by banks, but the FDIC is said to have been wary of the risk of allowing a weakened CIT into the fold. Word of the need of a possible bailout no doubt weakened CIT further in recent days. Financial companies without direct access to Federal Reserve overnight emergency loans depend on funding in the short-term debt markets, and with markets already spooked, the ability to find new buyers of debt evaporates. CIT's failure could imperil more than 1 million corporate borrowers, including many household name retailers like Dunkin' Donuts and Dillards Inc., in addition to the scores of small businesses considered crucial to the economic recovery. In a statement to the Associated Press, a Treasury Department spokeswoman said Wednesday night "even during periods of financial stress, we believe that there is a very high threshold for exceptional government assistance to individual companies." You can't compare TA with PBB...
TA I see it as no fundamental while PBB consider as best bank in M'sia (in term of profitability). TA-WB I also spotted it before it fly, but I didn't gamble it Anyway, I'll sell off my PBB-CH by tomorrow before closing (just make the decision 1 sec ago) QUOTE(panasonic88 @ Jul 16 2009, 11:29 AM) suddenly remind me of TA-WB … This post has been edited by chyaw: Jul 16 2009, 11:33 AM |

Added on July 16, 2009, 11:29 amLook at long term, not short term. If gov save everyone, then everyone will take higher risk. Companies must be able to stand on its two feet, without expecting the government to bail them out should they fail. + bailout doesn't necessary mean the company will do things differently from getting into the situation again. Look at what local companies who receive bailouts from government, they can never learn to stand on their own. |
