Look, here is my story :

This acne thing has been hunting for like 5 years and more. I'm 21 years old but I'm still having acne problem. I tried lots of way to solve it but none of them works!

When i was 15 years old, I got a real big acne on my face and ended up taking an injection and some pills from Dr.Ting (a famous Doctor in Jalan Imbi). I reached a part when those pills are useless against my acne and I started to consume Accutane for 2 months. After 2 months i decided to stop consuming it due to serious dryness problem and my mom started to give me lecture on How Bad is WESTERN MEDICATION.

When i was 19 years old, I went to Columbia, Seremban due to my serious acne problem again and the Doctor (I forgot the name) gave me some Antibiotic pills. It was really good when i was consuming it for like 6-7 months but right after i stopped it, the acne problem came back again. I lost my trust on the doctor so I went to another Doctor in Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman who gave me some Occutane (He said it's the same like Accutane) and some antibiotic pills but i stopped it right after 2 weeks due to my mom's lecture again! I thought my acne problem was solved but then after a week, it came back again.

Few months ago, I went to see this doctor in Columbia, Seremban. He gave me the antibiotic pills again and i consumed them but the effect was not so good. While i was consuming these pills, I applied Retin-A on my face as well. Last week, my doctor gave me some Roaccutane 20mg, which had to be consumed once in 2 days.

Now, My acne problem is a little bit worse compare to last week, I got them on my face, my neck, and my back. I'm still consuming Roaccutane and also applying Retin-A only on my face. What should i do now? Should i just continue to consume Roaccutane? The doctor said it's a 6-12 months program, what if my problem still cannot be solved? I really, really, REALLY want to get rid of my acne and pimple. The roaccutane is really making me suffer due to dryness.

I really need some advice here. I'm so self low esteem due to my acne problem. Is there any food should i stop eating to help on this? such as Carbs, etc. I know i shouldn't eat oily food.

I had acne on my back, chest and face for like 10 years since I was a teenager. Tried all sorts of creams, gels, soaps but they either didn't work or just solved the problem temporarily on the outside. Then I took probiotics by Bio-Life bout 3 months ago. As I was close to finishing the bottle, my acne just stopped appearing one day and I don't get anymore new spots now.

Try it out, the bottle only costs like RM70. Take the whole bottle yourself and don't share with anyone, or you need to buy more. I attest the change due to my lack of beneficial intestinal flora due to years of taking antibiotics. Probiotics should restore the balance of good and bad bacteria in your colon and hopefully cure your acne problem for life. It did for me (well, 2 months so far at least).

1. Avoid oily foods
2. Avoid sugary drinks, common mistake that a lot people do which is avoiding oily food but taking a whole lot of sugared drinks.
3. Avoid cheese and milk, or anything related to milk.
4. Drink plenty of plain water.
5. Use oxy daily wash and continue using it.
6. Sleep very early at nights.

Ive had acne problems for 15 years but its all cleared now due to experience, i suffered from acne vulgaris aka jerawat batu(the ones that comes in a big formed yellow puss), not the common type which most malaysians suffer from. I have tried tetracycline, didnt do shit except it made me a whole lot weak, doxycycline was the worst, i had terrible headaches and it felt like i was having food poisoning, retin-a ointment which never did do any thing except having more scabs on my face. I still suffer from a whole lot of oil pouring out of my facial surface probrably due to hormones.

Follow the above regime and i can guarantee you can have a clear face. Better stop taking all the antibiotics as it f***s up your system.

wow.. that's really awesome... if it works for me too.

I'll try it somehow if my medication now doesn't work. I put all my hopes on this Roaccutane. I asked my friends, my friend's friends, lots of them got their acne problem solved by consuming Accutane. I just wonder whether I'll get extra acne for the 1st month i consume the Roaccutane.

Btw, are you still consuming the Probiotics right now? After your acne stopped appearing?

nope stopped already lol, but I still don't get acne anymore. I guess the good bacteria is already inside and won't disappear, so its still healthy. But anytime you take antibiotics the good bacteria inside will be destroyed again, so take another course of probiotics after that or whenever you want.

Of course, try other methods like eating healthier..exercising etc too, it may work, even though it didn't for me. I still eat plenty of dairy products, fried food, icecream etc, and I don't get any breakouts.

I read accutane has permanent side effects? dry lips etc.
better to try everything else before going on that strong drug.

Another method you can try is Tru-Detox tea available at any pharmacy. It's for natural cleansing of the colon but quite expensive though. Can try a few weeks for overall health and maybe solve acne problems as well.

I was having hormone imbalance and yrs ago my face covered with pimples, all over the face!

I tried to seek doctor and apply many face cares but all worsen and painful too (because the face care contains high acid contain).

I found later when I use cheaper products (can get in the market) it recover slowly. Couldn believe the more I spent the effect lesser.

Well vanilla u could try out the product fearz introduced. I heard good comment from Cosway product too. My face is all recover now and receive some comments saying that my face's pores look smaller! Glad that! And it just pop out some small acne sometimes

I think i gonna continue with my Roaccutane until i finish the whole program. I already tired this Accutane twice, and i stopped twice. According to the doctor, if i keep on doing this, my body is going to build an antibody against it. In the end, this Accutane won't be effective against my acne anymore. From what i read in Wikipedia, Accutane has permanent side effects but it's not as serious as what you think. Dry lips etc. are only temporarily side effects, they will get better if i stopped the medication.

I agreed when you said that cheaper products actually gave better results. My mother introduced me a cheap soap which costs like RM3, and it actually made my pimples rate lower. I hope it actually works for me so that i can get my confidence back.

hi there,

for me, i have tried many kinds of products before. from biotherm to lancome, mostly all the expensive brands. but it doesn't really work well on me. until i have consulted by a friend of mine. she told me that perhaps the products i've used are not suitable for me.

therefore, she recommended me to use a range of skin care products which only contains natural ingredients, mostly from plants. it is gentle and really works well. coz according to her, she said that the products protect your inner layer as well... something like that. don't know how to explain.

besides, i'm taking supplements which recommended by her as well. which cleanse your body toxins and also gives you mineral, and protect your body cells. the product she recommended me was with the grapeseed extract, which is good for skin.

so i took her advice and use the full range. now only have a little pimple scar from last time. but it is not really obvious.

if you want to know more about it, you can add me in msn. so that i can share my experience with you smile.gif

just pm me if anything smile.gif

Too many testerone hormone ...... excessive hormons can give such side-effects like steroids ...

my recommendation: workout kau kau ..... take this chance to build up you body ... workouts reduces your hormon by half coz the other half is used to repair damage muscle tissues during workout ...

testorone hormon helps speeding up recovering muscle tissues after workout ... since you have this excessive thing ... best make use of it ...
most ppl doesnt have excessive hormon .... until they resort to take steroids ...... (never take steroids, they cause ur balls to shrink)

Dude I too have similiar problem like you TS. Tried many dermatologist such as Dr.Nathan near Jln Tunku Abdul Rahman but none of it did help. Did tried taking accutane, good recovery for the first 3 months but after stop taking it, the symptoms are back.

Anyway just 2 months ago, while browsing through Guardian, I stumbled upon PanOxyl AcneGel 2.5% (Benzoyl Peroxide). After applying it, my acne problem is reduced significantly. Apply every night. Right now my face is 95% acne free!!. I don't know what so special about PanOxyl because it's the same as other Benzoyl Peroxide gel/cream. But since it really help my skin, just give it a try, besides you got nothing else to lose. I suggest you get to know your pharmacist because the PanOxyl 2.5% gel is hard to get!! Most Pharmacist only sell 5 - 10%. So what I did was get my pharmacist order for me 4 tubes of PanOxyl 2.5 every 2 months.

BTW i also use "Bio.T Liquid Cleaser with Tea Tree Oil" for my cleanser and Neutrogena Oil Free Moisturizer. I'm also currently taking Cod-Liver Fish Oil pills, 200iu Vitamin E and low dosage of Zinc supplement.

PS : Oxy Sucks, no offense to Oxy lovers, but this brand makes your skin worst, from it's topical treatment to it's cleanser.

In my opinion, BP only work for pimple. And please choose 2.5%. Oxy 5/10 is too strong and will damage our skin. That for me. I used to have minor pimple problem, until i use oxy 10. It become acne on my whole face.

After my acne case got worsen , i consult few doctor and follow lots of program. Mostly all dont work . Until i take the 6 months accutane program by Dr.Nathan. You gotta be patience fighting the dryness. I apply Lip balm every 3 hours else my lips will break and bleed . And must be hardworking to apply the pink colour water on your face 3 times a day. And wash your face with only plain water. 6 months then all my problem solve. smile.gif

For the time being, I advise you to take the Roaccutane, now it's either take it , suffer the dryness and you get nice face, OR you continue suffer from ugly face.

I was like you, really don't like the roaccutane, expensive, dryness made me crazy, had to apply lip balm every hour, eye becomes very dry from 4th month. But after 6 months program of ro accutane, the acne is under control with proper lifestyle and diet.

Must have enough sleep, avoid food that you are sensitive to. Some people get acne by eating chocolate but not spicy food(which is me), and some peoples get acne by eating spicy food but not chocolate.

Hi Vanillaboy,

Try the Eumora or Mior soap..I think they will work. My friend acne problem also cure by it, please don't use your fingers to press them, will cause a lot of scar.

Huh..one more solution, just try for once if not working dont try again, use Dettol hand wash to heal them, apply it on the acne area and leave it before sleep then wash off after wake up from sleep. This is my sister remedy.

a friend of mine had serious acne prob, and she tried this range of anti-acne skincare called Proactiv Solution.

and it really, really works, after like 2-3 months of using it. try lah. smile.gif its benzoyl peroxide, if you're allergic to OXY5/ OXY10 you cannot use it. benzoyl peroxide is like one of the best anti-acne ingredient anyway..

Okay okay okay...

After reading all these comment here. I guess i really need to give my advise to you guys.
Before these, I used to have loads of pimples (i mean the really huge ones), all over my face.
Yes, i have very oily skin just like you guys did.

After consulting few skin specialist, none of them worked.
Then someone introduce me to Dr. Nathan (Skin Specialist located opposite Bgn KWSP/ Sogo)
That's where my skin starts to improve. I have to take some pills which make my skin very dry.
Especially the lips. When i'm taking this pill (over a period of 6 months) i must apply lip balm very often.
And i mean very often. At first i do worry about side effects and all that, but he told me i must trust him (Dr. Nathan).
He is a REALLY experience skin specialist.

So, those who are still facing pimples problem, i STRONGLY advise you to visit him a.s.a.p. But bare in mind, it's quite costly. Last time i spent around RM250 per month for the consultation & medicine. But i still think it's worth it.

Once you've recover from your pimples problem, it shouldn't end there!

For some unfortunate people, who stop taking the medicine/pills after they recover,
THEN THE PIMPLES COME BACK!

What should you do?

You need to find out what is the cause of the pimples!!

Do the list below and you'll find out what is the actual problem that is causing you pimples.
(I know most of you can't do ALL of this, but you better start doing this if you don't want pimples to haunt the rest of your live).

1. Don't eat oily food. (No fried chicken, no french fries & etc)
2. Don't eat spicy food. (No curry, tomyam, asam laksa, nasi lemak & etc)
3. Don't eat seafood (No Sotong, no Squid, no Crab, no Prawn, no Kerang, & etc. EXCEPT fish).
4. Reduce eating sugary food.
5. Don't eat chocolate & cocoa products.
6. Don't eat/drink products which contains milk.
7. Don't eat peanuts.
8. Don't sleep later than 12 o'clock.

Don't worry, i don't mean that you have to do all that for the rest of your life.
Just try it for 6 months, and i assure you, you'll see the differences.
After 6 months later, you can try eating those things you've forbidden one by one.
The trick is get to know what is the food that is causing your pimples.

Here's an example,
After 6 months of discipline, you can start by including Sotong in your meals for 2 days. Then stop eating it again.
If the sotong causes you pimples, you will get pimples withing 2 - 3 days after you've eaten the sotong.
If nothing happens, it shows that you're not allergy to sotong. Then 2 weeks later only, you can start trying out other food you've forbidden earlier.

By doing this, you will know exactly what is causing you the pimples.
I am the one who created this method but i can assure you it works!

The only concern is whether you can be discipline or not.

Other additional activities you can do to prevent pimples are:

1. Drink loads of water. (8 Glass of water is possible. I drink average of 8 - 10 glass a day).
2. Drink green tea.
3. Execise.
4. Sleep more than 7.5 hours a day.

Ok, that's all for now, good luck!

Oxy 5 is good enough for minor pimples.

Well done, you speak my mind, and I was a patient of Dr.Nathan too. Now no more acne but still have to beware of the "DON'T" list that you have listed. No doubt, you can eat anything when you are on medication, but after you stop and fully recovered, please please control your diet and lifestyle... wink.gif

Toothpaste doesn't work. So does applying Ice or Milk on you face, it won't work.

I guess i left out something from my previous " Don't " list.

9. Don't do experiment on your pimples!
(Don't apply any unknown medicine or any chinese medicine & don't put watermelon skin on your face!)
It'll make the condition even worst!

Does anyone heard of Dr Seah (Skin Specialist in JB)? I'd seeing him due to my chapped lips and my severe acne problems which had haunted me for years. I'd given Acnotin 20mg which need to be consumed for 6 months. There is seem to have an improvement on my face after 35days eating those drugs..

But ah.. I'm thinking to stop the treatment after 3 month cause i don't think i could afford it with my current study loan. Besides, I'm not sure whether it got any other side effects other than my lips become even dryer, redness on my face, ...

My body area had pop up something like acne or scar (I'm also don't know what it is), constipation (bleeding), feeling weaker, etc.. I'm not sure whether those symptoms is cause by this drug. Any suggestion to help? icon_question.gif

taking medication works.. BUT it is damaging to ur body.. i suggest u guys with acne problems to do it the healthy way like what i m doing..

my acne has been a headache for me for more than 10 years ady.. i don't know why but it just wouldn't go away..

first u need a strong motivation.. then go to a skin specialist/beautician.. ask them to press out all your acnes.. altho it will be the most painful thing u ever experience but the acne will still have to go no matter what.. putting medicine or eating medicine won't cause your black heads, or acnes to come out on its own.. u will need to press them out..

then u must change ur lifestyle.. eat apples everyday.. i am eating like 7 to 9 apples a day.. here's another tip.. i use a blender n blend the apples n swallow them.. i find it easier.. blend with the skin.. but make sure u wash them thoroughly..

next, avoid oily, spicy, dariy, n heaty foods.. drink loads of water.. n exercise!!!

that's wat i had been doing for the past 2 months.. my acne kinda stop coming out.. n all i ahve on my face now r scars which should be ok in maybe another 2 months..

my steps are good for acne n it is HEALTHY.. no need medication or spending a lot of money seing doctors...

try it n good luck,,

i have serious problem acne problem too , i also taking doxycycline medicine few month , the medicine can prevent/help current acne very fast (continuous taking medicine) , but just temporary . After i stop taking medicine , the problem come back . That time i think i cant depend medicine forever , so i just follow up healthy life style , it does reduce acne but not as effective as doxycycline . And try eat raw tomato and cucumber everyday , it does help me on reducing acne. you might try it ! If u feel u too serious problem , consume medicine 1st...wait the acne problem reduce , then slowly reduce medicine intake and adopt a healthy lifestyle . Cheers smile.gif

*
Hi, I into natural solution, 1st look like you have emotional stress that impact your self esteem.it hormonal imbalance,
1 stage try daily before 45 mins breakfast take 3 glass water After that eat 4-5 different fruits as breakfast .You have to wash your face regularly so it does be oily
you cut eating fried food for short time, and food that contain oil like chips etc.
before you start see your skin then check after 1 week. Also repeat to yourself my face looking better less acne.remember whole day you have take 7-8 glass water

in 2 stage we look at deficiencies, toxins, what to wash with, how repair damage etc.

are working or student and your place pollution tell more.

we talk after 1 week.
bye

If you are taking highly dosed meds, you can't simply stop just like that. It will worsened your skin. You have to mention this to your doctor and he'll cut down the dosage until you stop taking it.
I don't want to be on meds, scared.. My best friend herself, once she stopped taking the meds, the condition became worse..

She took from a well known doc, stopped taking because short of money.

Why have to abstain from milk? I love milk and i drink milk everyday...

Added on October 20, 2009, 8:22 pmAnd yes, my acne seems coming back again, after stopped taking roaccutane for 6 months. Today I went and see the doctor, then only he told me that 10% of patients may have acne coming back after stop taking it, I was like: what? You told me it was 99% cured last time and now you are telling me 90% cured?

This doctor asks me to take roaccutane again for 3 months. I asked him: is it after taking it for another 3 months, my acne will completely cured?

He said: It can come back again.

I didn't buy the pills afterall.

Sigh... really frustrated.

But then, who wants to try the expensive one if the cheap method can actually heal it perfectly?
It's just that sutiability can only tell after you have really tried it.
Therefore, it's not we want to go for expensive and branded medicine or methods. Never try, never know.

hi all,

just wanna share my experiences as well battling with serious acne prob for almost 10 years. i tried diff kind of skin care, diff kind of facial (expensive, cheap, resdung.. picit2 somemore..really painful). i havent meet any dermatologist as i'm afraid of d cost.
well i'm just a student back then. i can say some are effective but too bad, its just temporary solution.

till i tried dis product called bwhite (i didnt mean to sell my product ya, i share coz i care). it starts with detox process & improving bowel movement. few days after taking it, my skin condition started to improve. oiliness has lessen, acne shrinken. i dun have to pantang2 (its better if u can, faster result lor).
till now i dun hv acne anymore even i stop taking it for few weeks (well, i need to know if d acne will comeback). now i just maintain consume it as it help to reduce my acne scars & my skin even become fairer.

most importantly, dun give up to find the most suitable product for u. be it skin care, supplements, regime etc. icon_rolleyes.gif

i myself have serious acne problem before, tried going for medication but its just too costly, tried many products too, and finally found this product that cure my problem smile.gif

go to watson and buy this T3 acne facial wash, just rm10+ , its cheap, its like a blue white color one, then go to the pharmacy part and ask for T3 Mycin gel. that one cost rm30+ i think, cannot remember, but can apply for very long, if you not sure how to apply pls consult the pharmacist there, basically just apply a thin layer and rub lightly tru out the skin.

and also drink more water, try to get enough rest, avoid hot/spicy/poisonous food, and dun keep use ur fingers to scratch ur face or press the acne it will just spread more...

My acne problem is gone after I took Accutane for four months. Eventually I stopped at the forth month because I landed at the hospital due to severe gastric problem and Accutane might be the culprit. Though the side effects is horrible but that is the only thing that will work on me. The medicine is so effective until I go and come back from school and yet my face is not oily.

Thank God for the acne is gone but the scars is still there. I consulted Dr. Socka at Prai, Penang and he said the scars can be done but the treatment can be expensive. Since I do not want to burden my parents so I just leave it as if now, I might consider doing it when the time I earn my own money.

go to pharmacy and ask for Dalacin T. It works for me. This medicine contains the active ingredient clindamycin phosphate, which is an antibiotic medicine. It has activity against a wide variety of bacteria, including the bacteria associated with acne, Propionebacterium acnes.

So remember Dalacin T.

Search google for more info.

if you can afford.....get laser treatment.

but for student try using creams first laaa....

i dun hv acne problem in high school but when i enter uni....i suddenly got acne breakout & backne -acne at the upperback-

tried using proactive solution....the one supposedly used by hollywood celebs.

quite expensive for me as a student but it didn't really work that well. but the toner is effective. i put at my upperback and no more backne. so ok lah

then, since a fren used roaccutane and his face look so much better....i bought from him. hayooooo...sight effect cannot tahan. but after 2 months skin ok already.

after a while the acne came back....tried so many products @_@

now, i'm working already......so, a fren suggested laser treatment and i go for it. after few treatment....so far so good, acne subsidised.

here's the website http://www.skinclub.com.my if u wanna find out more on laser treatment

Go to a pharmacist and ask for Dalacyn
Or anything with the ingredient called Clindamycin
its an antibiotic that i use and the effect can be seen within 1 weeks.
It really helps...and it only costs like 30 bucks

Also if you want to prevent acne do change your lifestyle.
Sleep early
Eat healthy( more greens)
Exercise
improve personal hygiene. (change your pillow case often)

I know you hear this very often but trust me if you do all the above it will heal your acne faster than any medication on earth and it will prevent your acne from coming back.

If your really desperate....try being a vegetarian for 3 days straight and u will see the result on the 4th day.

*
I have been using Proactiv Solution for my acne problem and it's just marvelous. It works like magic. I have no more severe acne problem. I am still using Proactiv Solution for my daily cleansing & moisturing face needs. You can still continue to use the facial cleanser, toner & mask from Proactiv Solution once you're totally cured from acne. Just stop using the Repairing Lotion.

Should you be afraid that the product does not suit your skin type, try to buy a single loose item & not the whole pack at first.

Good luck & happy trying! biggrin.gif

I don't think antibiotic and benzoyl peroxide will work for you anymore, since isotretinoid (accutane) is already so far the best medication. Since you said accutane worked, stick to it, for like at least few months to completely eliminate all ur pimples so that the chances for it to relapse is small..

i used to trust what most people said, they recommend me products from pharmacy, and none of them work...after some research, i found out that those products are actually for mild or moderate acne problems. for severe 1 (like me and ur case), i suggest it is best for u to stick to accutane, as this is the only solution available. dun waste ur money buying those cream from pharmacy..u will only waste ur money n not seeing any effect, because acne is caused by ur internal, applying cream which cures the surface doesn't solve the problem completely..

as i read on ur post, u shud have stick to accutane for months in the 1st place. My question for u is y giving up in the 1st place? ok ur mom say western medication is bad but every strong medicine has a price to pay isn't it? Now, it's either u stick to accutane, or u leave ur face colonized by acne..

My advice: trust dermatologist..u can consider advice from forumers here, but i strongly recommend u to stick to the words of dermatologist...they aren't called dermatologist for nothing...im sure people who study dermatology for years know tonnes more than those who recommend u products in pharmacy i assume?

wanna try alkaline water?? acne occur because our body suffer from acidic that come from our food.. when there are too many acid, the body cannot resist anymore and so the body will produce acne to remove the toxin in the body.. so when drinking alkaline water it will neutralize the acid in the body and your body will be healthy as before.. alkaline water has been used in japan for about 30 years.. it has been prove that it can cure many critical disease.. check my signature below for more info..

i recommend that a thread be posted on natural remedies and self help for skin solutions.

i think it will save a lot of redundancy and help a lot because all information will be in a focal area.

Hi!

Try using the Dead sea cosmetics. Those things are tailor-made for those kinds of skin problems. You can google it. Germans, for instance, come to the dead sea by thousands to get rid of their skin problems. Why Germans? I don't know. You always see them on the beach. More, than any other nationality. Maybe, it's more famous there. Anyway, it really helps.

Hmm... I know exactly how it feels. I'm turning 28 and I still have skin problems, one that is suppressed by medication. I currently have the scars. I've had acne since college days. Which means it has been 10 years or so. It indeed is tough to go through life with acne, and I believe it is much harder for a female to go through it as appearance means a lot to them.

From what you have written, it seems like you didn't even attempt to go through the entire Accutane course. It is the best proven medication for acne, it also has the worst side effects. It is therefore up to you what you want. For me, and many others who have gone on this medication, I have decided to stay on the regime as prescribed by the dermatologist. And the outcome was fantastic.

I took different dosages throughout a period of 8 months. Yes, there was dry skin. Yes, there were backaches. Yes there were cracked lips. Yes my hair got thinner while I was on medication. There were many other side effects. But you get clear skin, and a possibility of NEVER ever getting acne again in your life.

My skin was entirely cleared after the Accutane medication, and it stayed that way for 3 years. After which only very minor pimples will surface.

For those people who advise to eat less oily foods, eat this eat that, it doesn't help, because it's all in the genes. You do, however, need to drink PLENTY of water, its never enough so drink as much as you can. Also don't wash your face as often with cleansers given as it will only irritate it when it is dry.

My advice? Complete the Accutane medication cycle as prescribed by Dr. Ting. When your skin gets extremely dry, use good moisturizers (not necessarily from Dr. Ting also)

You'll never know if you are in the lucky group of people where Accutane solves your acne problem once and for all and you won't have any relapse of acne breakouts in the future unless you try it and stick to the rigime.

However, please take my advice with a grain of salt and decide for yourself!

I think 2 months of Accutance is not enough. In this 2 months u will definitely encounter the worse situation on your acne such getting more of it and also becoming reddish. I agree with kelvinftg, you just have to complete the entire cycle of the treatment, if you stop halfway u might not get the results. You must complete the entire course of the medications.

Any drugs will have side-effects, it is nothing much to worry about it. Learn to tackle them, dry lips put on lip balm, dry eyes put on tear drops. Somemore the drying issue is not the long term effect. It will get back to normal over the period.

3 years ago I have acne on my head, face, back and chest. I took Accutane for almost 6 months! The acne is still there, but after stopping, it gradually healed. Of course will still have acne popping up but is not that serious anymore.

Does applying toothpaste on acne help and can anyone share their method of keeping the skin acne free and healthy? Thank you.
*
Eh.. no I dont think so for the simple reason that toothpaste is for oral hygiene.
Acne has to be cured from within, where the source problem is. Acne happens where too much bacteria in the system causes excess oils that rest in skin pores . That's how acne happens.

So to cure acne you must tackle the problem at source. Check out the following website medication for acne

Hi there,

Sorry to read about your story. It might help to stay away from foods that contain alot of fat, but really it's the bacteria in the blood that causes excess oils that lodge in the skin pores that causes acne. There is a natural way to cure acne both at source and at skin level. It's not antiobiotic, and there are no side effects. It cleanses the blood and removes the bacteria there fore stopping acne at source. This is the tablet form. The other form is the ointment that cleanses the acne marks and scars.
Thats that complete way and it works for me.
Eating fruit , veg like brocolli and raw carrot helps. To find out much more visit this website Medication For Acne

Hi,I currently is under his treatment and i also taken the Acnotin 20mg for about 48 days already. Now i also experience the side effects of dry lips and redness on my face. Is it the Acnotin cause the redness facial or is the clindamycin cream that i used? And do u still experience the redness of your face?
Thanks! icon_question.gif doh.gif cry.gif sad.gif

You can try Mederma. However getting rid of a scar is impossible. Maybe will make them just less visible.

Hello,

I have suffered acne problem for 10 years. I take the accutane treatment for a year from dermatologist and my acne went away. BUT after completing the treatment, the acne comes back (although not as severe as the previous one, but still it is irritating). I had to consumed 2 box of Accutane per year in order to maintain my face free from acne. So the question is:

Consuming 2 box of Accutane per year consistently, does it have long term effect such as to the liver?

I can stand the short term effect such as dry lips, redness and etc. But im worried if im literally shorten my lifespan for consuming this med consistently.... cry.gif

Dr ting from jalan imbi, skin specialist.

I am not sure what was his famous about. based on my experience, he did not solve my outpatient skin problem. I rectified my skin problem by went to jusco bought the treatment cream, and it works.

what i assumes dr ting was, he just sucking your treatment fee by asking you revisit for checking timely. i asked him the specific question about the infected condition, or recovery...he dont even look at me or response while eyes on his desk/writing notes or something.

i dont know for other supportive customers experience, may be different story, or vip "treating" manner. but not recommended for me.

i could sense that, dr ting was stalling my treatment / time by not just advising that i can get heal by walk in to any pharmacy to apply certain skin treatment cream (At least it does wasting my time, while my skin problem solve without his "treatment"). By the way, it was many many years ago since i was young of age.

in short, dr ting was (is) over-rated. (I am not sure about him for now)

For acne, i am using skinoren now. RM30++ from Guardian. it will takes 4weeks to see the healing result.

Start by controlling your diet to be free from oily food and more greens. Maintain facial cleanliness and moisture is also important.

My methods of clearing ACNE. Hope it helps. thumbup.gif

1. Control of foods intake. No fried, oily and sweet foods.

2. L'Oreal Men Expert Volcano Red Foam - Facial Wash

3. Dr. Ting of Jalan Imbi - Toner

4. Praventac & AG-Factor + GNC Natural E (Apply to your face) - Good combination.

5. Bikarbonat Soda - Scrub with it weekly

Morning happy.gif

Works like a charm.

Not irritating to the skin and it kills fast.

There's two(2) types; lotion and gel.

Lotion is the best...but pricey.

Above all, drink PLENTY of water.

Acnes are 'signals' from your body which is telling you that your body lacks water.

Try other pharmacies; independ names.

Well known pharmacies don't sell heavy stuffs.
I don't know why.
Frustrated.

The don't even know or sell Proscar (finasteride) sweat.gif
Proscar is available at Vision Care Pharmacy, Taman Putra, Ampang.

I bought my T3 Mycin at Alpha Pharmacy, Pandan Indah.

Try to eliminate by trying one type of food at a time. It takes time but it worth the trying. At the end of the day, I found my root cause of ACNE. It was due to nuts. I have stopped eating those foods that consist of nuts and applied the methods above. It works well to me. Maybe you should try.

Cetaphil is quite mild and for sensitive skin, since not suitable then maybe you might want to check with dermatologists whether are there any other milder cleanser available in the market.

Panoyxl is the brand, the content is benzoyl peroxide. I guess any other brands with the same content will have the same effect.

Perhaps you could try a range of product called Luminesce, created by an American cosmetic surgeon name Dr. Nathan Newman. My brother has got serious acne issues as well and ever since he started using the products, his issue has steadily improved and his pores are getting smaller. He has tried many products and gone for many dermatologist consultations in the past and they didn't help his condition, but this range he is using helped him plenty.

I try all kind of expensive way but end up calaminr works better than all those.

Try to purchase "calamine lotion" in nearest pharmacy, try for a few weeks
It is cheap and most importantly it works smile.gif

Used to have this issue too.. I've shared my advice with my friends and all of them so far have overcome their acne issue.

1. Facewash
Consult a doctor on the type of skin you have, whether its oily, dry and etc. They would usually know which type of was is suitable for you. Buy travel sets of Dermatologica or CLINIQUE (im using this) and try it out. They really work when correctly used.

2. Hygiene
Aside from washing your face, you must also have a clean environment to sleep in.
-Make sure pillow case , bed sheets and towel are being washed and changed once a week.
-If you have body acne, use a separate towel for your body and face.
-Try not to scratch or touch your face when outside. Some ppl will do it unknowingly. This will actually cause pimple to pop up because of the bacteria in your hands.

3.Diet
Lastly would be your diet. Please remove sugar from your diet as well as reduce intake of fried food. Reducing intake of sweet stuff like teh tarik, coca cola will help alot.

4.External factors
Things like sleep & stress can also cause acne. Stress is harder to deal with because it comes and go. Proper sleeping habits practices such as sleeping early and waking up early. It will give the body enough to recovery

These are my tried and proven techniques.

Healthy lifestyle and good skincare can't cure acne. They only don't make it worse or at most improve a little.

Throughout years of suffering acne( since puberty until now 25 years old), I have learned that medication is the most effective way to control acne.

People with acne have sebaceous overactivity and skin hyperkeratination, most probably due to genetic factor or hormonal imbalance. Most acne ceases on it's own when a certain age is hit, usually at 18-20, except for adult acne. Medication will tacke one or both of the root problems above.

So I will advise if you are suffering from acne go to a good dermatologist, instead of spending a lot in trying different skincare products or facial treatments.

Be careful with isoretinoids though. It should only be perscribed to severe acne. It comes with many side effects, depression is one of the worst, and pregnancy is strictly prohibited during and at least six months after the course. Have your liver and lipid levels checked during the course. I have seen quite some doctors prescribe it without educating the patients properly, even to the extend saying that it's an antibiotic. That's quite unethical from my pov.

Always read the leaflet coming with the medication you are given.

So far I have only seen Dr Ranjit. He is good in my book. He explained my acne condition, named the medication he was going to prescribe and told me the side effects. He even gave me a few options and asked my preference.

Actually the medications prescribed by dermatologists do not vary much. So for me it's just down to whether they will be concerned and attentive with your problems, or they solely wanna milk money.

Dr Ranjit in SS15 right? The male doctor I assume. I did consult Dr Ranjit (but this one female one) at their Shah Alam branch. She just told me hormones and gave me antibiotic without explaining much on the side effects and all that. It felt to me like they just give everyone the same kind of meds and dosage without much concerns. Maybe I should pay the SS15 branch a visit some day.

Free radical might be the cause of acne too, like the food we eat, air and etc. Whereas those fruits with high anthocyanins will help to reduce these free radicals. Maybe you can eat more fruits with high anthocyanins.

Dr Ko? Nearest to me would be his Klang clinic. A few of my friends have been to his clinic and they say prices quite expensive and also give them the same meds anyway.

I can't remember already. She just said it's antibiotics.

Anyway after that, I went to see a gynae because of irregular menstruation and found out my body hormones are all upsidedown. So was prescribe birth control pills to regulate it. The hormonal acne got much better after that but my skin still isn't clear. Currently waiting for body to regulate hormones itself since I just gotten off BCP not too long ago. Then will see how which dermatologist I wanna go to if my face still doesn't clear up. sad.gif

Is it this one? http://www.damansarauptown.com/2010/12/koh...ist-uptown.html
Thanks for the recommendation, will look into that. smile.gif

External stuffs doesn't work on me. Have tried all sorts expensive ones or even natural ones, most of the time it works for a while then no effect edi and it comes back worse or my skin dries out like crazy. I also do not wish to ingest meds to control it but it seems like I don't have much of a choice. Already eating healthy, never smoked, don't drink coffee, don't like sweet stuffs, no oily food, less processed food, lots of water, more fruits and vege, more sleep, some exercise (still working on this), but still having problems with acne. sad.gif

Everytime go facial, facial lady sure say must press out everything. Damn painful. Now scared to go facial already. Somemore have to listen to them push their products. doh.gif

The BCP did work but it did not clear up the pimples much, just lessen only. Mine was quite bad few months ago, to the extend that it was itching badly and I couldn't touch my face cause it hurts whenever I touch it. A few of my friends that went on BCP to control acne say that it'll usually come back after they get off BCP.

But roaccutane also one of the treatments for the symptoms, still can't find the root cause with that.

See how next few months then only decide. I was told if taking roaccutane, cannot go to the beach, cannot kena sun, cannot this cannot that, sensitive dry skin, etc. A bit troublesome to fit into my schedule.

Yup. SS15 one. But now he has another female doctor in the clinic for some of the days. I dunno if she is the same one from the Shah Alam branch. But avoid her. I seen her once and don't have good impression of her. So request for Dr Ranjit when you call for appointment and in the clinic.

You mentioned your hormones are upside down. Did you do a blood test on that? Birth control pills are used to control acne in selected patients, but they often cause rebound flares after taking off of them.

Actually there is no way to cure chronic acne unfortunately. All medications only control, so acne can come back after some period of time, unless your age decides it's time to do something good to you, or your hormones are in balance.

But at least there are still ways to control them. So consult a dermatologist to see what they can do for you.

Go to Ting Skin Specialist Clinic, Jalan Imbi.

I've been going there for over 1 year now. The doctor is really good, the prices are NOT expensive, i'm a student and I still can afford. The doctor also don't hide facts and you can ask alot of questions. I normally see Doctor Yap, he's so nice, friendly and chill, he even quotes scientific studies while talking.

Since your acne is serious, I recommend you do a oral course of Accutane (Isotetrin). You will be acne free for life.

Please DON'T believe bullshit such as diet, lifestyle, "natural" medicine or whatever, it doesn't work. Best you can do is cut off all dairy from your diet and it will improve your acne by 10%.... but of course useless.

Acne are caused by bacteria, oil production and clogged pores. So the doctor giving you antibiotic pills is a correct treatment, given that those acnes of yours at that time may be caused by bacteria.

Diet also played a part in causing acnes, food like dairy products, chocolate and carbohydrate-rich foods may trigger acne.

Stress is also another factor. If you are stressed often, it will trigger more acnes.

Oily skin is another major factor of acnes. As soon as your face felt oily, go and wash your face with a facial cleaner. Buy one of those facial cleaner tubes such as those from Kao and keep it with you so that you can use it when you need to wash your face at school, work or public place. Also buy those wet face wipes or those wet baby wipes so that when you cannot go to the toilet to wash your face immediately, you use those wet wipes to wipe out the excess oil temporary until you can go to the toilet to wash your face. The longer the oil stay on your face, the higher the possibility of acne forming.

Hi there, am a pharmacy student in training and I myself had serious acne issues after I came out of PLKN till the point that my parents wouldn't stop nagging me about how ugly I looked.

I learned abit about acne (we only covered topical drugs) in my first year too so maybe I can offer you some advice, do note that I'm not a professional yet though, just qualifying to be one.

I tried using antibiotics before under the directions of a famous skin doctor at SS15 (Forgot his name), but it didn't really help and taking two antibiotic pills 2 times a day for 6 months was hard to comply with especially knowing the fact that you can't anyhow stop antibiotics.

Then my friend recommended another doctor to me at Damansara Uptown (DR Koh I think) and he prescribed different types of creams and Roaccutane to me. I used roaccutane for about 3 months and didn't see any improvements, but he assured me that it would take awhile, and after 6 months there was extremely visible positive changes on my end, with some minor red spots left, but definitely not as severe as it used to be. I continued treatment for awhile longer until I had no more bumps on my face and all is well now (I still do ocassionaly get a few pimples here and there after stopping treatment for about 6 months though, but not too severe)

AFAIK, I had dry lips and had to use lip balm, and it's an extremely common side effect of the drug, but the result was that my skin was noticeably less oily. And acne is caused by your oil glands being blocked (then bacteria can infect it when its clogged), so I'm assuming that it worked in that way.

thus, I'd recommend listening to your doctors advice and continue taking Roaccutane after the 6-12 months regime is over and see what the results are like- Just follow the dose your doctor gives you. Remember, everyone has different bodies and hence why 6 months of treatment for you might not necessarily give you the results that someone else got, so give it some time. Talk to your doctor about your concerns and I'm sure he'll tell you why he thinks roaccutane is the best treatment for your option.

But just to give you some sense of assurance, many of my friends who had acne problems also resolved it with roaccutane when they were in their 20s. and it was visibly useful for them.

As for fried food etc. One of my doctors told me that there was insufficient evidence to show that eating friend stuff lead to acne, but you can always choose to be careful by watching your diet- eating a balanced meal won't hurt!

You might want to get your mom to talk to your doctor so that he can clarify her misunderstandings of western medicine though- as a pharmacist-to-be who comes from a very asian family background, I always get nagged by my relatives about how western medicine is "not safe" and "dangerous", but they usually have no evidence to back up their claims. The reason why I trust western medicine > chinese tradition is not because I don't respect my elders, but it's simply because western medicine is based on evidence.

And don't worry about your self esteem! I can totally relate to how you're feeling because at one point I was so desperate to get rid of the acne that I took a picture of myself everyday to see if there were any improvements. I recall being really depressed because of my acne esp when I was trying to chase a girl (HAHA). What helped me get through that period of low self esteem was to talk to friends who actually accepted you for who you are and not how you look like. Do try to remain positive too since being stressed and sad won't help your condition and might even make it worst!

For those mild-moderate acne problem, never go for Accutane, too much side effect! Of course, doctor will never tell u this, they will said the only side effect is dry. Don't trust my words, go google and u will found out many aftermath side effect from taking accutane. One of them which I scare the most is hair fail~ Acne sufferer should put accutane as their last option.

Yes, isoretinoids aka Accutane/Ro-accutane is the most powerful and effective medication for acne. So far I haven't heard of ppl failing to improve from it. The course usually takes 6 months, and more up to two years according to the patient conditions. After weaning and stopping off, it stays in your body for another six months. So the positive effects last at least one and a half to two years.

It strips your skin of oil by halting the sebacceous gland activity, not only of your face, but also other parts of body. Chapped lips is very common, so lip balm is necessary. And it's only one of the mildest side effects. Hair loss is a dreadful one, but it's usually reversible if not mistaken. Raised cholesterol is common but usually not noticeable when patients do not check for it. But increased cholesterol level have long term effect to your cardiovascular system. So exercise and diet control are advisable during the course.

But don't be scared off by it. The physiological effects brought by the severe acne are more devastating. Just be cautious of the side effects and you will be fine. If your severity is not severe but mild to moderate, put Accutane as your last resort. There are other effective medications with less side effects can do the job. Discuss with the dermatologists. They know what's the best for you.

While you can indeed get it from some pharmacies, you should visit a clinic first. Not everyone is suitable for it.
