@teikwing,
Er.. but if U take the RM100 plan x 24 months = RM2400 + the price of the phone... now, that's more than RM400 - then again.. most of us probably will utilise part of the RM2400 since we're based in KL biggrin.gif

Plus 24 months is a bit long lah.. before we can even say 12 months, we'll want the new upgraded 4th Gen iPhone liow tongue.gif

@MrKong,
Maxis knows how much data we use; and there's also a log in the phone - U can check it but some people think it's not accurate.  I haven't got my bill so I can't check.
*
@tink:
yeah. 24 months is way too long. plus, as we all know, Apple updates their iPhone line of products once a year, so we wouldn't wanna miss out when the new gen is out and stuck in the middle of a contract right? biggrin.gif

@Mr Kong:
you can check it via General - Settings - Usage, but some claim the figures are not that accurate. another way is to check it via your monthly bill. i'm on RM8 per month for 5MB of data package and Maxis states the amount of data i utilise every month in the bill.

i've updated the first page on buyers able to purchase iPhone 3G/3GS outright via Hotlink plans and made some changes in the CAQ. wink.gif

@teikwing,
CAQ! HahAHahHAhahHA Ur gonna get some spammers asking U what CAQ is tongue.gif  And absolutely right about the 24 months contract; I rather not be bounded by one but mine's an AU set so heheheh it's not going to affect me I guess *gulps*

@davidgary73,
Looks like U got extra Mods here, U and teikwing and well, on rare occasions, U have me to police too tongue.gif  See.. we luv u and help u with ur 'job' too biggrin.gif  Now, don't we deserve a drink on u?  wub.gif

@MrKong,
A typical US TV series is 350MB.  So do a rough gauge how much 500MB is.  We cannot really give you a gauge.

Thannks but I think it's best for me to visit Maxis centre in the morning to confirm the status, otherwise they screw me up on 31st!!!

@tink
Where have u been??? Tot u'll be around to KPC on the pricing plan announcement.... heheh... anyway it's been fun allright with their new pricing. At least it's affordable and competitive with SG & HK!

I think it's best to buy outright if ur using DiGi or Celcom. But if ur using Maxis, my as well u sign up the plans. But if I were to sign up, 12mths is ok becoz the benefit is lower with 24mths contract... not worth it..... hey better think carefully b4 deciding....
*
@Mr Kong:
basically, 500MB is sufficient for normal usage (ie. casual surfing with Facebook, some email checking, IM, browsing, some YouTube). unless you do surf 24/7 and play around with your iPhone every second of the day, then it will not be sufficient.

@tink:
i might get that kinda spam posts and bro david gotta start cleaning up again. today was really tiring, 9k hits in a day is insane! but thank God i have david to help out. smile.gif

btw, CAQ stands for Commonly Asked Questions for those who didn't get it. biggrin.gif

@jonest:
with the few hundred bucks saved but tied down to another 12 months of contract is kinda not worth it IMO. but to some, that couple of hundred bucks might mean a lot.

@DikkieD:
local telco regulations does not allow any of our local carriers to lock any phones to their network. hence, Maxis iPhones are officially unlocked. in the past, 3G users have been able to use their iPhones obtained through Maxis on other networks. smile.gif

from my experience, you will be asked by Maxis CS to finish up the credits before you convert to postpaid.

I plan to get maxis 3G S...but i not quite sure about something
1). the maxis warranty cover will it be like 1 to 1 change to new set if got any defect??
2). in what condition only it will cover by warranty, etc like battery or screen failure, can accident drop under warranty??
3). i read at front post the "existing hotlink users can keep their current account" meaning if I already had a existing prepaid number I can use that number to purchase it?------if can, I use my cousin numbers and I take the iphone, while the FOC 500mb he still can use at his own phone monthly right?

thanks in advance  notworthy.gif
*
1. in most cases, it's 1-to-1. however, from past experience of 3G users, you will get a refurbished set.
2. common conditions for all mobile phone dealers/distibutors. covers all hardware failures except those arise due to self-negligence. (ie. drops, water damage)
3. yes. that's a type of purchase know as a outright purchase. as stated on the first post. he can keep the sim to himself.

do read up the CAQ (commonly asked questions) provided on the first page for reference.

yes, of course. the Hotlink plan is just like an outright purchase. you can choose to utilize the phone on any carriers/sim.

but do take note that the Hotlink plan comes with free 500MB data bundle per month, for a year.

teikwing/tinkerbell

As a current Maxis postpaid user on VP80 I'm just weighing the differences between :

1) changing to iValue 2 for eg.
    12 sen/min and 10 sen/min for sms

compared with

2) keeping VP80 and adding iData 2 for eg.
    12 sen/min to Maxis numbers & 15 sen/min to non-Maxis
    5 sen to Maxis numbers for sms & 15 sen to non Maxis numbers for sms

It seems the iValue plans don't fully list out calls to other networks and sms charges to other networks or is it a flat rate to all networks?

Only thing for certain is the free minutes, in this case 667 minutes apply to all domestic calls both land line and mobile on any network if i'm not wrong.

Can shed any light?
*
yes. the free 667 minutes that comes with iValue 2 applies to calls made to any landline/network.

you can save RM300 on the phone (16GB) for iValue 2 compared to iData 2 but you gotta compensate more if you exceed the limit of 667 minutes provided for calls every month, higher SMS rates as well. with iValue 2 you get additional 500MB data usage though.

UPDATE: the call/SMS rates published for all the iValue plans are flat rates to all networks (including Maxis) in case you exceed the free minutes.

@teikwing,
Er.. nolah, not 24/7 tongue.gif  Am gonna disappear for the weekend; have a wedding dinner in Melaka to attend so will be offline most of the time *blush*

@djkeoni,
Am not able to give you the most accurage answer but ask yourself these questions:-

1) Do U fully utilise your current VP80 plan?  If so, what is the percentage between call rates + SMS rates; it'll be good if U can even narrow down the % to Maxis-Maxis calls/SMS and Maxis-Non Maxis calls/SMS.
2) Use the above data to see if it will be enough if you sign up for iValue 2 plan
3) If it's not going to be enough, how much roughly additional wil u need to be pay?
4) With the information, you can do a calculation to see if the iValue2 or iData 2 plan is more suitable.

My personal view, go for the iData 2 plan because by signing up the iData 2 plan, your VP80 plan is still there and if you're under any Family Plus plans you still enjoy the benefits and lower call rates - [oh.. i forgot to take into account the 667 free minutes - iYah my Maths is lousy, U go do the calculation lah].  Also, your VP80 plan will cover the cost of your calls + SMS - U just need to top up the RM50 for the additional 500MB p/month.

I hope the above gives you a better inclination of what you're going to get urself into.
*
disappear then who else will be attending all all the forummer queries? tongue.gif

@djkeoni:
i do agree with tink. you see, if you still wanna enjoy your current VP80 benefits such as lower call rates and frequent SMS, plus free calls to supp lines, just go for iData 2 albeit paying RM300 more than iValue 2 for the iPhone.

rather than subscribing to iValue 2 for the cheaper iPhone price, more data bundle but end up paying more if your calls exceed 667 minutes and SMS a lot. if you can stay within the limits of 667 minutes and does not SMS that much than okay la.

I was wondering if I sign up for a 12-month iValue Plan with Maxis, and let's say I sell off my iPhone 3GS after 8 months.

Will I then be able to use the iValue SIM card on other phones and enjoy the packaged calls & data for the remaining 4 months? Or will Maxis be able to detect that I'm using the SIM card on another phone and then 'rescind some of the privileges of the rate plans should the registered line not be used with the purchased iPhone 3GS' as stipulated in Maxis' Terms & Conditions No.6?
*
QUOTE(djkeoni @ Jul 16 2009, 05:17 PM)
Yup thanks. I guess for me it boils down to either:

Option 1
Choose iValue 2
- live within 667 mins + enjoy 1 GB data but pay additional for each sms @ 10sen / buy 500 Maxis-Maxis sms @ rm8
  (pro's: more data, flat rate of 10sen for calls after 667 mins & rm400 iPhone discount) (con's: pay for each sms additionally)

  Monthly Minimum Bill : rm155

or

Option 2
Choose iData 2
- live within current VP80 plan + enjoy 500MB data + sign gf up with Family Plus for free calls & sms between us
  (pro's: inclusive calls & sms up to rm80 & can still create/maintain supplementary call benefits)
  (con's: less data & no rm400 iPhone discount)

  Monthly Minimum Bill : (rm80 + rm50) = rm130

Which would most of you choose?

I suppose if you wanna:

Surf more on your phone - pick iValue!
Surf moderately + maintain calls, sms & supplementary benefits - pick iData!

Question
1) Is there any restriction in the t & c to sign up a 'non-family member' under Family Plus?
2) As stated above (I may be wrong!) but Family Plus benefits do not work with iValue plans right?

Also just for curiosity sake, what iPhone 3GS and rate/plan are you taking up? Also for teikwing?
*
@heartofjoy:
so far, there has been no reports/news by forummers who sold off their 3G and still keeping their iValue facing any difficulties on using iValue on other phones or have their benefits forfeited.

@djkeoni:
agreed on the bolded part. iData is way more flexible. as for me, i'm not getting the 3GS but if i were to get one, iData is my pick. as i still wanna enjoy my free calls to my supplementary lines, SMS a lot and will not be surfing on my phone most of the time as i have WiFi at home and only use it occasionally when i'm out.

and i think tink is not getting 3GS under Maxis as she got hers from Aussie. (maybe in the future?) biggrin.gif

1. nahh. no restrictions. i think Maxis define 'Family' as people who are close to you. not all those couples who are on Family Plus are married. laugh.gif

2. as stated in the CAQ on the first page:

QUOTE
> I'm currently on Value Plus 50 and have supplementary lines on Family Plus 30, calls from main-supp, supp-main, supp-supp are free. If I switch to iValue, will I still able to enjoy free calls with my supplementary lines?
- No. If you change to iValue plan, calls made from supp-main & supp-supp lines remains free but calls from main-supp lines are charged at 20% discount of your iValue call rate.

@takky:
mind to clarify on your statement as in which Maxis representative you got the info from? if it's true then i'll add the info in the CAQ section. smile.gif

QUOTE(hellokitten @ Jul 16 2009, 05:45 PM)
Noob question here guys / gals,

I have a Bold and currently a Maxis customer on an unlimited data package + BB service (about RM120) and also on a value RM150 plan. I have ONE supplementary line and on the Friends / Family Package.

I intend to buy the 3GS for its amazing library of applications but not ditch the BB due to superior push technology.

My noob-like question is as follows:

1) What are my ONLY options to get the 3GS without paying anymore since i'm happy with my Value Rm150 and the unlimited data package + BB Service?

2) I actually have 2 sim cards for my main line (on the Bold). I have 2 because i lost one last time, got a new one, days later, found the old one. Let's say somehow or rather i now own the 3GS; if i put my other 'spare' sim card inside my 3GS, would i still be able to surf (data) on both my Bold and 3GS at the same time? And what happens to voice calls now; which phone would ring if both phones are turned on?

Thank you in advance.
*
1. without paying anymore as in monthly bill? get 3GS outright via the Hotlink plan. just get a Hotlink prepaid pack and get 16GB at RM2490 or 32GB at RM2990.

2. have you checked whether both sim cards are still accessible? i don't think it's possible to use 2 exact sim cards at once together. one of them might have been deactivated already.

@D.Sync:
yes. it's clearly stated in the Hotlink plans & its T&C on the first page/Maxis webpage. please do read up before posting.

Hey wanna query about Value Plus Family:

If I supp a line using that from my VP80 plan what does Shared Talk Time mean? How long is that? The 15 hours?

It states :

• Voice and video calls are FREE up to 15 hours.
• SMS is FREE up to 1500 SMS

I'm thinking of this option but I guess can't fully utilise this if both me and my gf wanna buy iPhone 3GS right because for calls between me and her is with 20% discount for me and free for her to me right?
*
yes. i guess you're planning to get the iValue? which will only entitle your supp line(s) to make free calls up 15 hours to you but your calls to your supp line(s) will be charged at normal rate stated minus 20% discount.

if both of you get your iPhones under iData then both of you will be able to utilise the free talk time/SMS. (ie. 15 hours you->gf, 15 hours gf->you; 1500 SMS you->gf, 1500 SMS gf->you)

@djkeoni:
transferring her as a supp line from another primary line to yours will cost RM50 (transfer of ownership fee) and both primary line owners must be present for the process. can only be done at Maxis centres. smile.gif

@cgw:
it's valid for the old iPhone 3G at Machines and Maxis but not too sure whether is it still valid now since the 3GS is out.

So to get around the situation and cost -

1)can she just disconnect her current supp line and open up new line independently and thereafter become my supp? no actual 'transfer' involved?

2) or will this situation cause her to lose her current phone number in the process?

3) also if she does open a new line + iData will she be then allowed to become a supp?
Hope this isnt too confusing! hehe

Does we need to officially fill the registration forms and activate the Hotlink line in order to entitle for the outright unit (ex:RM2490) ?

Or can we just buy the Hotlink prepaid package without actually open & using it ?
*
@djkeoni:
i think she might lose her number in the process if she cancel off her current line and open up a new line. Maxis has some specific T&C regarding that, which i've forgot. i've faced the similar situation like yours but end up transferring the ownership as it's much more convenient, albeit being charged RM50.

@raoul:
you will need to activate that Prepaid number as Maxis will need to register the number under the 500MB data bundle which comes with the plan.

any matters concerning registration and booking shall be discussed here

please be considerate as moderator davidgary73 is having a tough time moving all of your posts every single time posts like that pops up.

this thread is solely for discussion on rate plans and recommendations.

this is a final reminder.

@crazy25kid

yes. your prepaid line must be active to receive the 500mb data bundle every month. read up the T&C provided on the first page alright?

@Mr. Kong
no more one-liners like that. if you really want to post, more constructive comments/opinions is appreciated. i believed you have been warned previously.

just like what bro g3n0c|d3 has mention, yes you can since the phone is officially-unlocked.

since the phone is registered with a prepaid plan (Hotlink), you will be able to 500mb of data per month for a year.

but in your case, if you're using the phone with another sim (your current one), you will not be able to enjoy the 500mb data bundle benefit.

@Mr. Kong
i don't think "iValue Family" plan existed in the first place.
