Let's me share my experience on this unusual-ultra-fast-battery-drain issue. My set is always with singtel simcard on normal day unless when i was travelled back to malaysia, then only i'll put my maxis simcard into it.

I have never has this battery drain issue with my singtel line with data plan. 3G, location service, BeejiveIM push notification are always on. Push and fetch on email on the other hands are set to manual. The problem happen last friday when I was travelled back to malaysia. As usual i'll set the fake apn on cellular data network and swap the maxis simcard inside. By this way i wont get data charge with my maxis line.

I was on my ipod starting from 9pm on bus and to my surprise when I was one and half and hour to reach KL, the phone displayed the 20% battery remaining warning. I have to stop the ipod and let the phone to rest as i'll still need to make another call b4 arriving KL. Well, not even half and hour later the phone totally turn-off.

Definately I feel the strange behaviour of my phone battery at that moment. Once reach home, the phone having difficulty to fully charge. I suspected the problem could be due to the block apn setting so i removed the fake apn profile and let the phone to charge overnight. The next morning the phone finally at full juice.

Since i dont have any data plan on my maxis line so i decided to set the fake apn again. God, the battery started to drain even at the standby mode. I guess i have to turn off the BeejiveIm push notification but the problem seems to be on and off.

In the end, i decided to restore the phone and setup as new instead from backup. I set the fake apn again, and never startup the BeejiveIM app even after installed (so this time i wont get push notification setting option). The phone able to last me from KL to SG, with ipod listening along the whole journey and battery remaining at around 70% by the time i reached SG.

This morning i've done another experiment and block all the network access with my singtel line but with BeejiveIM push notification turn on and yes, this time the battery drain unusual fast again. Now im trying with the network access blocked and BeejiveIm push notification turn off as well. Will update later on how the battery life perform.

p/s: this all happen after upgraded to OS 3.0. never had a problem on old firmware.

Update: battery still drain out superfast with all network access blocked + BeejiveIm push notification turn off. Also experience some interference with nearby speaker when the phone is out from sleep mode.

Summary of experiment till now:

0. 3G and edge off, BeejiveIM PNS off -> battery life as normal compare to old firmware
1. 3G and edge on, BeejiveIM PNS on -> battery life as normal compare to old firmware
2. 3G and edge off, BeejiveIM PNS on -> battery drain out fast
3. 3G and edge off, BeejiveIM PNS from on to off -> battery drain out fast
4. Logoff BeejiveIM + PNS on, 3G and edge off -> battery drain out fast
5. Logoff BeejiveIM + PNS off, 3G and edge off -> battery drain out fast

Observation on (4) & (5) - scrolling on long list eg. contacts and btw home screen showing sign of sluggishness.

Removing the BeejiveIM app solve the sluggishness problem on (4) while restarting the phone after step (5) solve the sluggishness and battery drain issue.

yawn.gif time consuming experiment...
