hi guys...im with the idea of home made weight gainers..amma use my On whey(2 scoops),olive oil, peanut butter, low fat yoghurt, low fat milk, oats, bananas and occasionally throw ina few egg whites and blend it up...this wayi come up with a weight gainer of approx 1200calories...which i plan to take in 2 diff servings a day...
now,the question thts been puzzling me is when is the best 2 times of day i should take this shake..im torn in between morning, post work out and right b4 bed...
I normally to take my protein shake in the morning, pre and post-workout..but im thinking , since im gonna start on weight gain shake i could just take the whey protein shake immediately post work out and take the home made weight gain shake in d mornin, pre work out(occasionaly) and right b4 bed..
Im quite skeptical of taking the weight gain shake post work out because ithe other ingredients like peanut butter may slow down the absorption of the whey(which is quite essential for muscle repair post work out)
so what do u guys think..plan to start this cycle on monday!thnx in advance..

First, have you actually tried that shake before? Seems like an interesting concoction and no doubt, it'd be really really thick. tongue.gif

Next, talking about protein alone, your body can only handle, or rather process a certain amount at a given time. Taking more than that would just let it go to waste plus turn in to fat if I'm not mistaken. Just eat more regular food. xD

one scoop of whey is good enuf, since u r adding those yogurt, bananas, olive oil and etc, i would suggest u to take it in the morning, for post workout, whey+bananas + yogurt sounds like a good go.

Hope this help buddy, cheers.

A suggestion for the bananas. Freeze them, and then when you take your shakes, take one out of the freezer, cut it up a bit and blend it in. thumbup.gif

Well, he did say he is making two servings out of it, so that's 600 kcals.

Have any of you tried the Schwarzeneggar shake? I did when I was working out in university (with zero success). He gave the recipe in one of his books. It was a super concoction of 0.5 litres milk, two cups of olive oil, 4 whole eggs (I think), protein powder, bananas, lecithin, etc. It tasted great, but I was bloated like hell, lost all appetite for normal meals, and had loose stools! It made me miserable! Whereupon I came to the conclusion that only Schwarzeneggar can stomach the eponymous shake. And we all know he's superhuman.

I've done 0.5L milk, 2 scoops whey, oats, a pair of fish oil pills popped in and that's it.
It was okay, but I'd stay full for nearly 2 hours. Imagining what you did...yuck.

A bit of a vague reply. Scoop sizes differ among brands. And taking too much protein in one shot won't do any good because your body can only cope with a certain amount at a time.

Thats a little heavy to be a pre-bed shake. I say reduce to 1tbsp PB, 1/2 tbsp canola, whey. Ditch the banana. Add milk instead.
