@ Brastel: What's your take on Abel? He's good IMO on a scale which match-up tiers can't really gauge but to me the fact remains that at least 1/3 of the cast have some sort of distinct advantage over him. I think it must be even more apparent when you're playing against some of the top players in Japan.

@ Darkstalker: Oh ho.. Cammy... mmmm... Hitting her with Ultra puts me in a nice "spot" and getting hit by her Ultra gives me a nice view.... WIN/WIN in my books!

But but...you will just be another Balrog. I don't like Balrog. His jab is freaking fast, he has quite high priority for his overhead (correct me if I am wrong!) and he hits HARD. *whines and cries* I like seeing you play Abel! He used to be quite unrepresented except from you, Mac Mac and Brastel. All your Abel play styles are so different that its so interesting to watch every match just to see how things goes.

Im also using Barlog, though my Gief is still in Beta 6.0, i think its really important to know how to use at least 1 different character because it gives me inspiration on how to improve my gief.

as much as ppl think boxer's moves are easy to read, you can always switch mode playing offense, defense, zoning and even turtle if you want and boxer can adapt to each and everyone of its playstyle.

When i lost my concentration on Gief, i switch to Boxer and become awesome instead. True story. lol

Yeah I get what you mean, sometimes I play other characters just to know the match-up but in some rare instances I found stuff that could be applied to Abel as well.

When I lose concentration I switch to Dan and lose awesomely instead. Alan knows this hahaha

I think if we're talking tiers(which i really dont give much damn about), abel is middle to upper middle tier. He has bad matchups though (gief, akuma) but the rest he either goes 4-6, 5-5, 6-4 (not sure about 7-3 though).. I believe a good abel player can compete with anyone (except gief lol).

As for me, I just love the way he plays, suits my playstyle and so far i never really wanted to switch to other chars as my main. Of course I wanna learn other chars too but abel will always be my main.

Plus I think abel has slight advantage over balrog so you can switch all you want haha.

Dan is cool and all but i guess after you can master Ryu, Ken, Akuma or Gouken or even Sakura then you can pick up Dan.

Making Dan your main will only bring you as far as an unique player. i never got thrashed by Dan before So if someone here in this Forum thinks he can, then i may think otherwise. leave japan alone.

Dude I have to put up a struggle to win your Abel, and I use Gief! I'd say you're crazy if you're thinking of switching but then again if you can apply your awesomeness with Abel to the rest of the cast, I'd say why not. Balrog's a good choice, not much bad matchups, hard hitting pokes, but you know.. Nick(Hatred) uses Balrog, Jay uses Balrog, Darkstalker uses Balrog, Anthony's second character is balrog then plus you that's a lot of Balrogs

I think Cammy is a more interesting choice. Naked ass aside , her cannon spike is ridiculous, her rushdown game is good, her Ultra is the only one of the console-exclusive cast that can be done in a fadc juggle and I've seen people do crazy ambiguous crossups with air cannon drill.

Problem is, i feel Abel has a majority of his matches at 4-6 and has really terrible match-ups against 2 highly used and pretty good characters so on a tournament level Abel might not be as good? Seeing Shiro play gives me hope but I'm not sure how consistent he is at getting the top 4 or even top 8 in major tournaments.

i will suggest on taking honda instead of Cammy. Because its similar to your Abel playstyle and new things to learn as well.
im not sure about PAds drumming consistency, ( im imagining it in my mind and i guess it works) use thumb to slide through lp, mp, and tap HP continuosly.. there you go haha)

I did train up in the XboxLive mountain with like 100 gief's before this. Every single person online would counter-pick with Gief till I was forced to learn the match-up I even switched to Ken at one point because of that. But I still lose quite often to Gief's especially Zangief82's and yours whenever we play. At least its not total ownage right?

Hrm... maybe i'll main Gen then. No one seems to like Gen. Poor old man.

I read somewhere that her air cannon drill can't cross you up, it only looks like a cross-up or sth like that. Anyone knows if this is true?

Man I've played some really crazy Dan's on XboxLive that close to perfected me almost 90% of the time. It was crazy stuff. But I like fighting Dan online. There was this match, he jumped backwards and did his air taunt, then I jumped back and just taunted and we taunted till time ran out.

Yeah I tried Honda out at first and he's really nice to use but the combos with him are hard to pull off and I'm bad with charging characters. I tried that drumroll for his 100x Slap but didn't really work for me consistently. Maybe I need practice.

J. Hk. cr.lp to HHS is possible on pad but cr.lp to HHS alone is impossible, at least to me. After J.HK, tap on lp like a madman then switch to tapping HP after lp animation ends

i can't find a good situation to use it

lol to be honest, for mp I just spam it within range and hope the other guy gets tagged with it. Its range is so far its abusable but try not to be so obvious or you will get a shoryuken or low counterpoke. Good if you think the guy's gonna jump. Slap him back down.

lp or cr.lp is also ok and if hit, try and combo it to mp.

low lk is good to counter low pokes (ryu's low mk, chun's low pokes)

mk I dont use that much as its actually punishable as Gief's legs stays out for a long time. But it reaches further than mp (I think) and the fact that the kick reaches out longer means the probability of hitting somene is higher but.. its unsafe.

st. hk is also a good poke as it stuffs out some moves (example: Abel's wheel kick) and if whiffed, you can straightaway piledrive an unsuspecting opponent as the move moves you forward.
