Going to comment a bit since its about Abel:

1. Laxa is right, the best way to counter TT is to jump, grabbing is out as TT has throw invul. There's really nth much Abel can do unless he comes out of the roll with a skyfall or wheel kick but that's... dangerous. cr.LP is also good but if he stops just short of your lp range then he can still TT you so be careful with that.

2. Just wanna correct the TT delay bit, EX TT and TT both have the same startup (5 frames) so there's no actual delay between the 2. The diff is that one is hit invul and one is throw invul.

TT's range is actually longer than normal throws... I think the benchmark used is Chun-li's throw as she has one of the longest ranges (if I'm not mistaken). Taking Chun-li's throw as 1.0, lp.TT's range is 1.3.

The range gets shorter depending on the str of the TT used. lp.TT has longest range but lowest damage and longest recovery while hp.TT is the other way round. Basically, Abel needs to roll just short of the opponent's lp/lk hitbox then execute TT. Easier said than done though

Eh... I would say no to the same style, Zangief's piledriver is... *koff* chee *koff* ting *koff* (just jk btw.. omg zangief82 is here.. edit edit!)... really good. I'm not sure of the properties (hit invul?) but since it starts up so fast it doesn't really matter anyway. Piledriver has a 2 frame startup so you can barely blink before you're spinning around in the organic washing machine. Comparitively, Abel's TT startup is 5 frames so ppl who spam lp/lk are likely to hit him out of it.

I guess when you start out with Abel, using lp.TT is ok coz the range is great. hp.TT has its advantages though, the recovery is slightly faster (some ppl would say it's still slow so it doesn't really matter) but it tacks on an extra 40 dmg... 3 hp.TT = 120 dmg for free.

Its nice to see another aspiring Abel player . I think there are only about 2-3 players who main Abel around, including me.

Lol grabbing Abel... yeah I guess you could call me that. Its very risky though, atm I'm working on improving my Abel by switching more to Bigmac's kungfu style. I figure a balanced blend of both is the most efficient

Nah, I barely have time to practice on XboxLive as it is... besides I understand how Bigmac feels, don't want to expose all our Abel secrets I'm sure all the LYN forumers are going to join this time round, the prize is damn big

Well... yeah KOFXII was quite a let down BUT if it doesn't coincide with the SFIV tourney then I'm all up for it, even if its just to play for fun.



Alan was mentioning LCD TV, PS3, etc. But I don't want to hype it up or put words in his mouth so its best we wait for direct confirmation from him. It'd be really nice if that were true tho *hint*

EX TT only avoids hit, and TT only avoids grab. If EX TT avoids both... maybe in SF4 Dash la haha. Normal TT can counter gief's Ultra/Super too

But Balrog looks fun! He's black, he's big and he laughs when he headbutts ppl! Maniacal! Chances are I'm sticking with Abel for next month's thing but after that... not sure.

@ Brastel: What's your take on Abel? He's good IMO on a scale which match-up tiers can't really gauge but to me the fact remains that at least 1/3 of the cast have some sort of distinct advantage over him. I think it must be even more apparent when you're playing against some of the top players in Japan.

@ Darkstalker: Oh ho.. Cammy... mmmm... Hitting her with Ultra puts me in a nice "spot" and getting hit by her Ultra gives me a nice view.... WIN/WIN in my books!

Those seem like really good reasons to like him... makes me want to use Balrog more and more There's a reason why he's so unrepresented y'know...

Yeah I get what you mean, sometimes I play other characters just to know the match-up but in some rare instances I found stuff that could be applied to Abel as well.

When I lose concentration I switch to Dan and lose awesomely instead. Alan knows this hahaha

Nice, thanks. I don't really care much about tiers either, just wanted to get an opinion from another Abel player about his match-ups.

Problem is, i feel Abel has a majority of his matches at 4-6 and has really terrible match-ups against 2 highly used and pretty good characters so on a tournament level Abel might not be as good? Seeing Shiro play gives me hope but I'm not sure how consistent he is at getting the top 4 or even top 8 in major tournaments.

Heh I dunno about slight advantage but we can talk about that at another gathering or sth.

Dan vs Abel 6-4 wth? I'm not going to feel bad about losing to Dan anymore lol.

I did train up in the XboxLive mountain with like 100 gief's before this. Every single person online would counter-pick with Gief till I was forced to learn the match-up I even switched to Ken at one point because of that. But I still lose quite often to Gief's especially Zangief82's and yours whenever we play. At least its not total ownage right?

Hrm... maybe i'll main Gen then. No one seems to like Gen. Poor old man.

I read somewhere that her air cannon drill can't cross you up, it only looks like a cross-up or sth like that. Anyone knows if this is true?

Man I've played some really crazy Dan's on XboxLive that close to perfected me almost 90% of the time. It was crazy stuff. But I like fighting Dan online. There was this match, he jumped backwards and did his air taunt, then I jumped back and just taunted and we taunted till time ran out.

Yeah I tried Honda out at first and he's really nice to use but the combos with him are hard to pull off and I'm bad with charging characters. I tried that drumroll for his 100x Slap but didn't really work for me consistently. Maybe I need practice.
