QUOTE(MasterAlvin @ Jul 25 2009, 09:25 PM) hahaha hi Quist. nice to meet you too. Oh! Haha! Thank you! I have been attending so many SF4 events lately that I am so tired from traveling. But all in all, its really worth it!it's always nice to see ladies turn up for events like these. honestly speaking, many of us are thankful for these kind of tournaments, but personally i dun feel that the organizers today did not have a full idea of what they were doing. interrupting players IN THE MIDDLE of their matches, banning sticks, and 2 round games all the way up to semi finals, 60 second rounds, and infinite round time for semifinal onwards... i hope they get someone who actually knows the game to draft up the rules, the next time they attempt these things. it could have been so much better. and honestly, i think it's reasonable whoever wants to use pads can use pads, but banning sticks is... i mean yeah, if you think it's unfair that we have sticks, pls feel free to borrow one of our dear sticks, we'd love to share it. we feel unfair too when we are forced to use pads. Champion goes to Leong Teng Fai, a dominating performance in the finals runner up is a Ken Mr.Lim was first runner up. photos and videos will up uploaded shortly. maybe tonight or latest tmrw night. I would like to note that the tournament setting for both the Penang and KL market is totally different! I find that the KL people are slightly more efficient than in Penang. Even though there are still some places which still needs improvement, overall it was an enjoyable event! I totally agree with you about that stupid organizer who walks around and interrupts players all the time! I mean, I totally lost concentration and my "steadiness" everytime I got interrupted! People playing halfway and he goes like, "Ei, you no 013 ah? You win or lose ah? So now you win lar?" I was literary glaring at him and the crowd was cursing him for interrupting the matches. He deserved it, in my opinion! The rules are quite fair but like you said, I think its also fair that we are allowed to bring our own controllers or arcade stick. I mean, its just a controller/ arcade stick! Its not like you can input some special button where you press to "focus punch" immediately. I hope that future tournaments would take this into consideration as I believe its important to allow players to feel comfortable in their own environment. Personally, I found that some controllers were rather "faulty" in the sense that the button sensitivity was off. My friends and several other contestants complained about this as well. I would also like to comment on the time limit. I think that all tournaments should follow the standard time of 99 seconds instead of 60. It was pretty shocking for us when sometimes, we just realized that its 60 seconds instead of 99. Haha! All in all, I really enjoy gatherings like these! I will input my feedback to the Penang organizers so they would do a better job in organizing the other tournaments to come! |

Thank you so much for welcoming me! I was initially a little scared about going over to KL for a tournament as I do not know anyone but it opened my eyes a little about how things are organized here. I will help to give some feedback to the people in Penang on how to organize a better SF4 tournament in Megamall Pinang on the 30th of August as I happen to know the organizers. Do let me know more about it too k? I will probably be dragging some of my other friends to the gathering as well as they were the one who taught me how to play. Do post up gathering updates here k? I will be officially shifting down to KL in August so its such a good opportunity to train up for tournaments. Haha! pikacu: Yes, I am the Cammy user. I also used Sagat (which I think was in slightly better form yesterday than my usually aggressive Cammy). Nice to meet you! mDinie: This is Don Don who played Ryu and a Rufus (only in later rounds for fun). He is pretty much a high potential player and he taught me a lot of stuff about Ryu (since he seems to be the favourite in most competitions!). Sam is "the Claw" @ Vega who is so happy that he was finally able to execute Bloody High Claw with ease after going to the competitions! He is also my mentor and sensei who taught me how to play SF4 a month ago and gave me an hour intensive training before my first tournament. Definitely someone I respect as well! rawfish: I agree that there are also really good players in Penang as well. Perhaps all of you have different playing styles but I agree that there are many good players out here in Malaysia. In Penang, you can see the usual flowchart Ryu-Ken-Akuma line up so its interesting to see a different set of characters been used here. I noticed a lot more Zangief's than in Penang (usually only Jason Sim plays a very good Zangief!) and there is also the excellent Abel who managed to create the first perfect of the day with Ryu. I was literary stunned when I saw him execute all his moves at ease. There were two notably good Bison's that day (You are definitely included as one of them!) which is also rare in Penang. Sam, as usual, likes to use Vega which made him the only good Vega for yesterday's tournament. The standard of people using Ryu yesterday is simply amazing! Most of you have such good timing and the ability to throw out nice combo's. Good job! I already gave my feedback on the event in my previous post though I totally agree with what rawfish said. The event was in a rather tightly spaced area (perhaps due to budget constrains as mentioned!). I remembered my first tournament was held in the concourse area of Gurney Plaza, Penang and that definitely attracted more supporters! I am definitely agreeing with rawfish on the character selection part! I was so shocked when I first saw that there was no Cammy available on any consoles (in the beginning). When I complained to the organizers about this, one of the staff just shrugged me away and told me, "Too bad. I guess you have to play with whatever is offered." That already broke half my spirit and put me at a disadvantage as there is a possibility that I may not be able to use my main character (Cammy). They should just standardize everything by unlocking every single character That all my comments for now as I just woke up (yawn!) and I will have to travel back to Penang again tomorrow. I seriously had fun and I hope that you guys from KL would be able to join the fun in Penang this coming Merdeka. |

QUOTE(Darkstalker @ Jul 26 2009, 12:41 PM) Sounds like you guys had a blast. Thanks for the videos, MasterAlvin! Loved them though I totally sucked! Haha! Please inform me of transportation more than 12 hours in advance next time. XD What was the character selection spread like? A million Ryukens or a nicer spread and were there any decent Boxers/Hondas? ____ Quist Cammy, are you and Claw friend + Ryufus friend attending the next gathering? honky, same question to you except it addresses you and your group of 8. * likes meeting new people Anyway, to reply to Darkstalker, I am personally not sure if we are able to make it though we would try. Do give us more information so we can start planning our journey. Not really sure about the roads in KL since I will be driving there. Haha:) However, we will give our confirmation few days prior to the gathering! Really hope to meet you guys again! I will be answering for Don Don @ Dinie here regarding Thrust's question: Both of us do not have a PSN ID as we are playing using Sam's PS3. Personally, both of us do not own any consoles and can only play when we have the opportunity to do so. I agree with Don Don @ Dinie that the three of us (Me, Dinie and Sam) needs more exposure. I have exposure with the SF4 people in Penang but definitely not in KL. Its really interesting getting to see many different playing styles instead of the "spam"-type of Ryu-Ken-Akuma:) Honestly, we learnt a lot during the tournaments and its a really refreshing thing! Thank you again! |

QUOTE(Darkstalker @ Jul 27 2009, 12:02 PM) Well, if you need directions, I think I can lead you. No problem! Thanks for offering me directions and thanks to master alvin too! The next gathering (this coming Sunday, 2nd Aug), is at Outpost Cafe in Cineleisure, which is next to the Curve. Do you know any of the following places? I could lead you from the following places, or conceivably meet with you somewhere and lead you all. - 1 Utama - Taman Tun Dr Ismail - Damansara (aka "Uptown") - Kelana JAya/Taman Bahagia LRT station - Bangsar Shopping Centre/Bangsar Village - Mid Valley Megamall Preferably not the last two cause they're actually BEHIND me. Give me a PM or something if you want my contact for whatever reasons. I am staying in Petaling Jaya so I guess 1 Utama is the nearest option. I seriously don't know if I will be driving down or taking taxi since its only around RM4 if we were to take taxi from our place. Haha! Is Cineleisure nearby 1 Utama then? |

QUOTE(Darkstalker @ Aug 5 2009, 11:18 AM) "Great turn out" is an understatement, suddenly there were like 10 extra guys that I wasn't expecting. hatred___: Haha! You are welcome! I am glad you guys enjoy yourselves. Next time, do drop by also. We always welcome visitors since our house is literary quiet most of the days. Good games to everyone yesterday. EDIT: Btw, congrats on your now more awesome than before HRAP3. Like the pic that you used for it (the one in your sig). darkstalker: I agree with you! I was shocked as well to see the turnout! But its always nice to have so many people playing the same game with such devotion! Anytime you guys wanna do a gathering, just let us know before hand and we will try our best to accommodate to the time and date. Thanks again for coming over and I hope to have more gatherings in the future! p/s: i pity you guys who are at work today...you guys stayed up so late last night! Wah! Own rules ah? Like that I confirmed die. I will be the one running around the whole neighborhood! You all like to bully me mah! Haha!
Sam-sam's and my suggestions on own rules: Cannot use focus attack. Penalty: One focus attack = payback with 3 hard punches/kicks (cannot block ah!) Cannot use lariat. Penalty: One lariat = one super back (this one lagi cannot block) No spamming projectiles more than 3 times in a row. Penalty: Spam = payback 3 hard punches/kicks (cannot block also!) Cannot link super --> ultra Penalty: Cabut joystick USB port + auto lose round Cannot continue normal move combo with super/ultra Penalty: Same as the above = cabut joystick USB port + auto lose round + second round reduce hp to 50% before fighting Cannot air juggle/combo in air (@ rufus ex snake strike) Penalty: Cannot jump during match. If jump = disqualified Gai leh our rules. /gg |

Hmmm...I was thinking of a strange but pretty interesting idea for our "private tourney":
Why don't we have this sort of raffle system where we draw out random character names from a box? You have to use whoever you get. Its literary like playing random but you get to know who you have to use slightly earlier than the character selection screen. Haha! Sam-sam's suggestion is quite nice: Instead of drawing out random characters names, why don't we draw out random rules instead? For example: Cannot jump Cannot use F.A. Cannot use light punch Its just simple rules but its a pretty interesting idea. Sort of like a handicap for both parties. Just a stupid thought in this cold rainy day. Sigh... *thinking of what to have for dinner* This post has been edited by Quistreous: Aug 5 2009, 05:54 PM |

QUOTE(Darkstalker @ Aug 5 2009, 10:49 PM) I'm sure the only reason that rule's in place is because we're all gay and that there's a girl involved. Goodness gracious! Wasn't it supposed to be Nick stripping since he still owes Desmond for fixing up his joystick. And I so believe you guys are ALL GAY...But we're all gay so the girl can strip. Really. We're gay. ...gay. Gay! Anyway, just let us know a date. We are not available on the 15th and 16th this month (which is next weekends) as we will be going down to Malacca for the GACC event. There will be cosplaying, a lot of video games competitions (which includes SF4) and many other activities. Best part, THEY ALLOW JOYSTICKS! Its played on an XBOX360 in case you guys are wondering. This weekends should be fine if you guys don't mind a little dance practice (have performance up in GACC so need to practice. Sigh) Just let us know earlier. And this time, everyone has to bring some food! Haha! Potluck! |
