Hi everyone. Before jumping in, I wish to confirm my understanding first.

Let's say, I'm asking someone who is coming back from Aussie to get me an iPhone 3G S and I get to use it here, on my line, say Maxis.

Step 1: I only buy from any of the 5 Apple retail stores listed on this thread.

Step 2: I assume since it's outright and unlocked, it can be brought back to use immediately. My question is, is the phone already unlocked before I purchase it, so that I don't have to pay for unlocking.

I'm not signing up on any plans whatsoever.

I believe stocks are replenished on a daily basis; just need to be early to the Apple Store

but then he cannot claim the GST himself no? i was only looking towards his own personal advantage. furthermore, how points can i really accumulate la?

Since U mentioned the GST, perhaps we should tell the rest here they could TRY at the airport; who knows? they may be as lucky as U and Auro !

Haha! I wish I could be there. Haven't been to a real Apple store. Someone else at Aussie is getting it for me and bringing it back. So yeah, I'm not in Aussie.

tink: I don't mind the extra help. But only if I'm there and nokia is cool about it. But then again, I won't be flying there

As for GST, I don't think it's possible. The person stayed there for more than the stipulated days. Full A$879 then

Er.... read Post #1 - nokia2003 was kind enough to give full details on GST claims. Thus far, those who make the purchase and personally travel shouldn't have problems with the GST claims (I'll check with my aunt who's arriving tonight - she's carrying 1 unit of iPhone 3GS) - at least that's what the damn Australian Tax Custom website states.

However, there has been few rare cases where the person purchasing the unit wasn't the person travellingl and yet GST claims were successful hence luck might have played a role. If you follow according to the books, it must be the former way.

Also, as long as your friend doesn't travel on an Australian passport and leave no longer than 30 days after the said purchase is made he should have no problems claiming GST for that unit.

And make sure he/she has the ORIGINAL invoice from Apple Store (no photocopy is accepted) as the AUS kastam informed one of the forum member who brought in a few units previously.
