Are you getting one bro? Most of my friends cannot wait till Friday lol. Well, I wish I could take the plan but since my visa is expiring, they wont allow me to take the 2-years contract. I really hope Optus sell outright iphone but sadly they don't since they are pretty much charging nothing to unlock except for the long waiting period. I just want to see what Vodafone and Telstra can offer and I might ended up buying outright telstra phone anyway+ 150 freaking expensive unlocking fee.
Do you think 3 will also sell iphone this time? Since vodafone and 3 already megred, i hope that is a possibility as most of the 3 phones are sold outright and can be unlocked with a minimal fee.

true, Optus is good in term of the plan offered but then if only I still have one year left in my visa lol. Anyway, just wanna add tethering is supported by Optus for 9.99 access fee per month and then u can choose between 2GB or 6GB for 24.99 or 44.99 respectively.
the 9.99 charge only be waived for customer with 99 timeless plan.

out of topic tho, I really hope they can open an apple store here in WA. It is about time so that I dont have to wait for 2 weeks to get my iphone fixed.

i think u can still sign up for 1 year contract even ur visa is below 1 year..thts wat i heard when im 1st signing up for iphone 3g..
at 1st i plan to sign up for 24 months n my visa only for 1.6 years..they said i stil lcan sign up for 24months but i need pay remaining months b4 my visa expired..so is like if u have 6 months left after ur visa expired, then u need pay the 6months fees in 1 time...
*
Cool! I'll head up to Optus shop tomorrow to find out. Hopefully I can sell my current Iphone and use it to pay the excess months. But 'sayangla' since my Iphone is just 3 months old (replacement unit) but again probably could fetch a higher price selling my 3G. I just read the plan all over again and find out the 59 plan is good enough for me since I dont really use tethering and don't really download data directly to iphone. But I think Optus should have just waived the AUD9.99 fee for all plans, they made a lot of money already lol.

i will be staying in brisbane, australia by the end of this year for a period of 9 months. will this make me elligible for the optus pakages? i should be getting a working visa.
how does the prices compare to the maxis deals here in malaysia? i will definitely continue to use the phone when i get back to malaysia next year.
*
For the eligibility, it depends on the visa. Let say if you are on 9 months visa (I dont think there is a vsia with 9 months period but assuming there is), you can apply for 12 months plan but you need to pay the remainder of the contract months that you dont have the visa for. Let say you take the 49 cap for iphone 3gs 16 gig, u need to pay AUD 49 for the phone usage (calls, text etc) plus AUD 49 for the phone so total AUD98 per month. You have 3 months that you are not covered for so u need to pay upfront AUD294 and then pay the rest with AUD98 monthly.

So for 12 months, you will be getting the phone for AUD588 ~RM1650and spend AUD588 for your calls, texts etc (provided u will not exceed the plan). All together you will spend AUD1176 ~ RM3300 over a year

For comparison with Maxis, let say Maxis will maintain the price (which I doubt so) for 16 gb and you choose iValue 155 plan and u take the 12 months contract.
Youll end up paying RM2160 for the phone and RM1285 for the calls, texts etc (provided u wil not exceed the plan). So total you pay over a year is RM 3445.
But, this is using the old iphone 3g plan. Im pretty sure that this number will be higher by at least RM300-Rm400 price for the new Iphone 3GS.

Overall, it is definitely cheaper to buy the iPhone in OZ but the only downside of buying iPhone oversea is the warranty only works in the country of purchase.
You also need to think about unlocking your phone if you buy it here. Optus will give u for free, Telstra will charge you freakin AUD150 while Virgin and Vodafone will charge around AUD40-AUD80 depending on the contract length.

i guess if u wan international call then i believe 3 is the only choice for u since they included international call in their cap..
if optus then u need sign up for another extra international pack which is $5,$10 n $15..b4 tht i sign up for $5 but then i cancel de coz i got skype..
n i can use my gf's 3 to make international call if i wan since she not rly use much
*
You know what will be great? If 3 release iPhone with free Skype like their Skype phone. You can directly call through skype without using your download data. Lot of my friends use skype phone and they never exceed the skype minutes even on 39 cap

apparently telstra pricing plans are up. however it is obtained from internal sources and since it is subjected to speculations. i will refrain myself from posting it up, until the plans are in black and white
stay tune guys!

You mean the one that posted in whirlpool. Seems that Telstra try to follow AT&T tho. Hopefully it becomes official.
They also leak the dealer price for the iphone 3GS.. VERY VERY interesting price.. You'll be shocked this coming from Telstra..

but it is believable la IMHO.

telstra is known to be more expensive than optus and i'm cool with the extra few hundred bucks (afterall you are paying for a more reliable network)

i'm just not cool with the AUD150 unlocking fees. 150 just to update an IMEI on the iTunes database? come on...
*
Lol true the 150 is stupid. It is good for me since I am leavin OZ in 3 months time so I would not prefer to be tied to any contract here. But still wanna see what is the Maxis price before buying outright here due to the local warranty issue. But have a look at the dealer price. It is so tempting. Dunno should post it or not but I hope it is not a speculation. feel free to correct me.

yup. i saw that earlier, but i'm reluctant to post speculative items like that; especially if it is deemed to be confidential.

all those law units that i took, are sufficient to intimidate me. heh!

You are scaring me lol. Bah I live in Perth, nobody will care about people in WA anyway lol. But yeah it surprises me as Telstra used to be the last one to commit when iPhone 3G came into OZ market last year and I think they are more prepared this time around. If only Telstra would knock down the 150 unlocking fee, I dont want to spoil my iPhone 3G S with ultrasn0w. But for now I probably stick with Optus and pay out my contract early. Hopefully Vodafone 3 and Virgin will come with better offer.

@neekun

just make sure the receipt is over 300 then u can claim and u must buy the iPhone i think 7 days (or is it 10 days) prior departure. If u comply with that, I dont think you'll have any problem even on student visa. ( i myself on student visa)

This is really2 cheap price for AUD879.. Guess I need help someone from Melb or sydney to buy it for me now.

I've a cousin coming back from Melbourne on Sunday.  Subsequently another aunt on the 1st Jul.  Perhaps I should get it? *grins*  I'm tempted too but I don't have the $ !!!

Maybe can ask her to buy then sell it hor?! *grins*
*
Make sure he/she make a booking at the apple store because they say the outright/unlock will be limited at first. If you can get one, just buy it since AUD879~MYR2500 is really cheap. even cheaper than the current 3g iPhone that Maxis offer. The only concern that you should have is the warranty since it is only applicable to the country of purchase. As we know, the first batch of iPhone 3G S will highly likely to have some problem as other Apple product. Altho Apple will take care of it, but it is really a hassle if you need to return it back to OZ.

But yeah, if it is true, I might get one on my trip to Sydney next 2 weeks.

Went to Next Byte coz heard they are selling the same price as aApple Store but came back disappointed as they are locked to Telstra. Anyway will be getting mine when I go to Sydney next week for MASCA games. Any students here participating?

@Nokia2003 Do they accept debit card (Visa)? I cant browse whirlpool to find out for unknown reason.

Probably getting 2 or 3 if anyone interested to tumpang with me since Ill be back to Malaysia on 29th July. (no intention to advertise or anything I'll delete if inappropriate). And I have to let go my 3G. So sad in a way lol.

@tinkerbel thx and so fast already sell your 3G lol.

Im praying there are still iPhones when I go to Sydney, it is been exactly a year next Monday since I last go to Apple Store in Geaorge St. Love the feeling of it lol. Hopefully they will accept debit card as a poor student like me cant afford a credit card lol.

About the Oakley pouch, is it for iPhone usage or the one that come with the sunnies since i think it is the same size with the pouch for sunnies. I got the Ducati Oakley one. Use it to store iPhone also.

yup. you are right. click here for more information!

Added on June 28, 2009, 5:53 pm

so in conclusion, AUD99 will give a total of 3 years of warranty (if you play the cards in an orderly fashion)
*
Thats what I always do with my Mac and ipods. I usually buy it one month before warranty expired. Do you think Apple gonna sell iPhone at the online store soon? It is easier that way since i always buy my apple product through online. Even when you get something wrong they will send the courier to pick it up and send it back to you after repair. Happened to my iBook G4.

i haven't read the T & C.

but why would that concern you, neekun?

isn't your 3G S from oz?
*
i think what neekun mean as we know that AppleCare have been always applied for international warranty. If this is true, we might have an international warranty and we, who use OZ set wont have to worry much about warranty anymore. (As we can claim the warranty in Malaysia) Care to discuss?

@^old^news^paper^

I know but last time Apple also do not sell 3G outright from their store. Truth is the chances are very slim but I would love it to happen

well if you ask for my own personal opinion (remember it is mine and it is subjected to speculation).

iPhone is a peculiar apple product in such a way, that it doesn't really follow the standard apple protocol.

even before the launch of the applecare in oz, only the american bound iPhones are eligible for the extended warranty.

reason is because, not every countries in the world (which offers the iPhone) has the standalone apple retail store. a quick snoop around the apple website, only australia, canada, china, germany, italy, japan, switzerland, uk and the states have the the standalone apple retail store.

hence, in countries (for example malaysia and singapore), the network provider will essentially handle the warranty issues. where else in australia, even the network provider (off the records) will personally advice you to send your problematic iPhones to the apple store directly, to save time.

this is because, if lets say my iPhone 3G S does pose some issues, and i send it back to optus, it will take optus at least two weeks (alleged) before sending it to apple for inspection.
*
This is what i get when quick reading the T&C for iPhone

d. This Plan is offered and valid only in Austria, France (excluding Corsica, overseas departments
and territories), Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain (including Balearic Islands but excluding Canary
Islands, Ceuta, Melilla), Switzerland and the United Kingdom. This Plan is not offered to persons
who have not reached the age of majority. This Plan is not available where prohibited by law.

Australia is not there yet or maybe they forgot to write it. Maybe they will update it with some other countries who will have the ACPP due to the fact that most of the countries will get their iphone in mid August.

and from FAQ for Apple Care

What does “global repair coverage” mean?
If you take your Apple hardware with you when you travel and happen to need repair service, the AppleCare Protection Plan offers global repair coverage. You can either go to an Apple retail store or contact Apple for information on how to obtain service. Service will be limited to the options available in the country where service is requested. Service options, parts availability and response time vary by country. Please see the AppleCare Protection Plan Terms and Conditions for complete details.

hopefully Malaysia will appear in the T&C. finger cross

i will have a read through T&C wether iPhone Apple Care does provide global repair coverage

*Updated*
I gave up trying to justify the warranty coverage of the ACPP for iPhones. Too many words to read, not my cup of tea reading all these T&Cs Guess the easiest way to call AppleStore and get them to clarify. Hehe
