isn't it's a good thing to have times 2 focal length?
*
He's not saying that he's waiting for Panasonic/Olympus to improve 2x focal length.
He just meant that some feature is left out and some weakness in them like not
flash/viewfinder in E-P1 and AF might be a bit slow... wink.gif

go for FL-36R......
U need 2 AA batteries and the just nice for your E-P1.
I'm own FL-50R & FL-36R for my E-P1 and LX3.
*
oh, I went to see FL-36R too. I think its ok. But still its quite big. I think if its as big as FL-36R, I might as well get Metz 48.. tongue.gif

QUOTE(=Hanxz= @ Sep 14 2009, 06:49 PM)
Metz 36 should be fine as well if a cheaper alternative is needed,
i'm using one on my LX3, so far so good smile.gif
*
I would prefer smaller profile like FL-20 and Metz 28. Haha...

QUOTE(navilink @ Sep 14 2009, 09:07 PM)
wow shocking.gif suddenly thinks E-P1 is cheap tongue.gif now waiting for canon or fuji to come out with their own m3/4.. if they ever adapt that technology..
*
I dunno if that'll be the price retail. Normally the shop sell cheaper. I think E-P1 retail is RM3000 too but sold at RM2600.

Although the FL-36R is quite big with the PEN, don't forget the advantages as it can swivel for light bouncing benefits... smile.gif
*
is GN 36 power enough to bounce? I guess if the ceiling is 10feet, then it'll be enough. But if its a ball room ceiling?
Does FL50 enough power to bounce ball room ceiling? hmm.gif

gf1 so expensive, will the price drop? i prefer it to the olympus pen cuz it has in built flash!
*
QUOTE(dazzle @ Sep 14 2009, 11:54 PM)
the built in flash is a waste time.............Not enough power.
DO you think u will use the flash to take indoor picture?
FOr me, I prefer external flash.
I can well control my picture..
*
Well, built in flash is ok for taking friend picture at short distance. SO its very useful actually.

The only reason to get PEN is because of Body IS. All other thing is better in GF1.

QUOTE(seaotter @ Sep 15 2009, 07:45 AM)
I wouldn't say that much.
If you say GF-1 got EVF - think again. Its a 600 ringgit 'optional' extra.
the Gn6 flash is useful - if you want to take close up photos with washed out colors. Maybe for fill-in flash, but that's about it.
The reports online says the Gf-1 only have up to ISO3200 - even then its noisier than the E-P1. And seeing its using the G1's not the GH1's sensor, there are also reports of pixel-banding in some of the pictures.
The design? Yes beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but then isnt the E-P1 a breath of fresh air in camera design?

I am not bashing the GF-1 here, but there are pros and cons to every camera.
Best bit about the GF-1? i know its using the G1's lightning fast AF. Wish i can have that in my E-P1
*
But actually its true. Haha... normally I don't want to use fill in flash for any close up. It's very
terrible outcome. It always make subject looks bad. Probably my skill is baddddd.....

Anyway, got one solution. Have you tried diffuser with fill in flash? I heard its a lot of better.
If diffuser, maybe the GN6 flash for GF1 is useful? But bringing a diffuser somehow is trouble
some also.

That's why I think if bring diffuser, might as well bring bounced flash, eventhough I never tried it....
haha... if I get FL-20 or Metz 28, I need to bring diffuser along.. probably you guys are right. I should
get Metz48 or FL36....

And yes, the design of E-P1 is so cool... I already told my friend that even though I don't take photo
with my E-P1, the white camera is just so cool to be displayed in the cabinet... muahahah....

AF is slow but it is usable for me. I disable face detection and set to single AF point in the middle.

By the way, you said RM600 extra for EVF. We never know the GF1 street price yet (not the retail
price). So don't be so fast to judge...haha

great!! Is it solved the AF?

QUOTE(Babyripp @ Sep 15 2009, 11:12 AM)
cool! new firmware is out already.. I'm charging my battery.. guess have to wait till later today.

I'm going on a >14day trip soon so I think I am really gonna need a spare battery. How much is it going for and where can I find it?

I was in Penang last weekend at the camera shops around komtar area.. and bought 40.5 filter for 30 bucks.. erm.. last time I check in midvalley the filter is RM120 so.. what actually did I just get? some no brand kinda filter is it? Is it okay to used cheap filters?

I still dunno what external flash I should get. Is FL-36R the smallest yet swivel-able option?
*
I think its ok to use cheap filter. If we use E-P1, guess we're not too demanding..haha

I think you can find cheap third party battery for RM60. You can check out lelong.com.my

QUOTE(dazzle @ Sep 15 2009, 11:31 AM)
Battery for E-P1 is same as the E-400/ E-410/ E-420/ E-450/ E-620.
Search for Olympus BLS1 (BLS-1) Lithium Ion Battery Pack.
Is not cheap.....At least cost you RM200 above...

no problem for a cheap filter......

Go for FL-36R............you can swivel around.....Haha..
*
Get third party BLS1 then it'll be cheap. RM40 to RM60 nia....

C-AF if very useful in tracking moving object. I try this after the firmware upgrade. I use the EP1 with 50-200 lens and shoot at 200mm at a running kids.. the result is good. everyone should read the manual on when to use Saf and when to use Caf. otherwise will end up complaining oh i cant get this shot..or tat shot..

and remember 200mm is like 400mm in FF equivalent and i shoot it without monopod..just handheld from my apartment which is 6 storey high through the window.

double click on the image to view full size.

Oh, I see....

But you're using tele wor. With wide depth of field, I'm sure its easy to lock focus with contrast detection since
there's so many contrast area with wider DOF.

Can you try your CAF with limited DOF like with bigger aperture (f/2.8 or bigger) where the object and surrouding is further?

Wonder if anyone has information about the price and availability of the Panasonic 20 mm pancake in Malaysia? It's getting rave reviews over at dpreview.

Quote: 'Overall, we can't help but conclude that the 20mm F1.7 is the first must-have lens for Micro Four Thirds, and one which especially makes sense with the compact-bodied E-P1 and GF1.'

Nice.
*
I think its hard to get Panasonic/Olympus stuff in Malaysia sad.gif because of low demand...

Unless suddenly a lot of people buy E-P1/GF1, then maybe supplier will bring faster....

Added on September 28, 2009, 12:34 amLast week I scrambling to get a lens because my kit lens is spoiled. I'm lucky able to buy 17mm f/2.8 2nd hand for RM650 together with the viewfinder. I find that the pancake is the best lens compare to kit lens. E-P1+17mm makes a very good traveller camera. I hang it on my neck for 6 days and I don't feel a thing.

Then I change to kitlens and I feel very heavy....
