Guys, I am having a difficulties in shooting night photograpy, as the pictures are always OOF (out of focus). While at the same time, my PNS can do it better where the picture is sharp.
This is with E-PL1 ![]() While this is with my LX3 ![]() And this is with my Ricoh GX100 ![]() All the pictures can be seen at my flickr page. I guess I need to beam the tree with torchlight 1st? |

QUOTE(bbjslee @ Apr 6 2010, 01:14 AM) R u relying on the AF? I'll try that...but really, my E-PL1 can't get sharp pictures in those situation where my prosumer can do it as what I expected.Try take picture on the same subject with different camera, it's easier to compare that way. While yes, I am relying on the AF...but that same goes to my prosumer, all were in AF mode. Any tips on this? BTW, all those pics were taken in extremely low light condition. The brighter pics were resulted in 60s or more shutter speed...so that it will absorb any available light, and make it bright Oh yeah BTW, I am enjoying all these...though it is challenging, that's where the fun begin This post has been edited by walikard: Apr 6 2010, 01:37 AM |

1 thing about the E-PL1 is the lack of the AF assist LED...that makes focussing in low light hard.

QUOTE(faidz85 @ Apr 6 2010, 09:17 AM) Ohh ... no AF lamp/LED on E-PL1? That's bad I know my GF1 also had some limitations with taking low light picture with bigger lenses, as the lens will block the AF lamp light (coz the lamp is too close to the center), making it hard to focus. This happened when I was testing with near objects using the 14-45mm lens with reversed hood and the 70-300mm lens under low light. Now all low light pictures I just use the 20mm F1.7 gao dim ... I think I am gonna do this:
1) Set my camera to manual mode, 60s shutter, and small apperture like F8 and above. 2) Change mode to Apperture Priority. Beam my subject with torch light or something, then get the camera focused the subject in AF mode. 3) Once focused, change to Manual mode, and change the focus mode to MF. 4) Switch off the torch light, and start clicking the shutter. I'll tell the result later. Hope it will works |

Just browsed through flickr and searched for E-PL1..it seems like there are so many lens combinations available. Wonder if they can autofocus or not(please say cannot AF).

As I've done some reading, once you have set the AF, and then change to MF, the starting point to manually focus is at the point where the focus is achieved in AF. If let say you don't change it, it will re-focusing again, and will definitely hunting for more Is there a AF lock for E-PL1. I guess there AF lock, but need to re-check. Haven't think of it before..should try this also. Thanks for the input bro |

tararan and DaiNgau said two different things about the AF of the lenses.
Which is correct? >< I'm assuming Daingau was not referring to all the links. |

Bro, the lenses in the links are either OM-mount or C-mount, both also cannot use AF on m43 system cameras. Which is correct? >< I'm assuming Daingau was not referring to all the links. Correct..patience is the missing factor.
Anyways I only snap vacation/event pictures for personal use and satisfaction. So quantity>quality for me. But I believe that both can be achieved at the same time. Edit: A preview from Steve Huff : http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2010/04/04/t...-olympus-e-pl1/ I love his reviews cause it is not so technical and more on the real life usage of the camera. QUOTE(faidz85 @ Apr 6 2010, 01:15 PM) Correct..patience is the missing factor. Yeah that's right ... that's also the same reason I got m43 instead of DSLR. Anyways I only snap vacation/event pictures for personal use and satisfaction. So quantity>quality for me. But I believe that both can be achieved at the same time. Much lighter and portable for traveling, can play with manual settings if needed and won't lose to DSLR in terms of image quality. |
