hi all, reading posts few pages back, I'll conclude Xtreamer is a problematic product.

in my opinion ....
I feel so....but actually xtreamer upgrading firmware from time to time.
but different product ...that gradually once upgrading firmware...
i use 3-4 different media player....xtreamer care the community get service that is GOOD and LATEST

By reading you already can make conclusion?

xtreamer firmware is not opensource, only the add-ons are opensource project like xtreamer live.

the old model of xtreamer such as sidewinder, mk1 has not received any firmware update since early this year. the firmware 3.0 for old model looks like hopeless although the official site said initially they would release it in August, and they ate their words again!!!

Download and installation

Please be advised: you can only install SideWinder 2 firmware on SideWinder 2 Xtreamer media player.

Unlike with our previous models you will need some kind of local storage for online firmware upgrade since the file is 3 times bigger than version 2 firmware.

There are two ways to upgrade the firmware on your SideWinder 2.
You can go to Settings -> Firmware upgrade and choose "Check for Firmware" option. If your Xtreamer SideWinder 2 is connected to the Internet and there is an update available the player will automatically download and install the firmware.

Emergency Procedure

Please be advised: you can only install SideWinder 2 firmware on SideWinder 2 Xtreamer media player.

Emergency procedure can be used to fix "bricked" units or a number of other firmware-related issues.

Please download the latest SideWinder 2 firmware (check the link above).

Rename file install_sw2.emg and copy it into the root of a USB stick (we recommend a stick no bigger than 2GB. Format the stick FAT32).
Disconnect all the cables from your SideWinder 2, remove hard drive, dongles - everything. Disconnect the player from power for 10-15 minutes.
Connect to a TV via RCA (yellow, red, white) cables and to the electricity. Do not power on the player.
Remote control, press “Home”(release button) -> “3”(release button) -> “Power”(release button). Press the buttons with a 1 sec pause.

*Any other sequence will fail and nothing will happen as the call for this procedure is initiated by HOME button pressed first*

I have purchased the new SideWinder2 two weeks ago but have not spent too much time on it yet.

To me, it is a quite a good player (support various files and HD sound) but with a few disadvantages:

1. The new firmware 3.0.8 is too slow in starting up and I thought my SideWinder2 is hang.

2. Telnet is not allowed in this new product to prevent user from modifying its software.

3. It does not support Bittorrent, which I am quite disappointed.


I have talked to one of their Technical Dept personnel and got to know that they have intention to release firmware 3.0+ to Xtreamer Pro, iXtreamer and Xtreamer. However, the exact release date is unknown. For eTRAYz, firmware 3.0+ will not be released for it.



Currently, Xtreamer is "busy" working on their new product, which is Xtreamer Sincx but the staff does not reveal anything further on this product.

To me, Xtreamer has been in the market for quite sometime and have quite a lot of users, they should have put in more effort in fixing bugs and update the firmware more frequently (for older model, such as Pro and Xtreamer MK1) rather than just releasing new products.

Furthermore, if Xtreamer open its source code to their users, more wonderful programs/scripts can be developed. This will definitely become an attraction of interest to purchase and use Xtreamer products.

The problem with this program is I am not sure on how to flip to the next page but can only use the forward button to flip 10 pages at a time. Will you able to show us how to flip through the movie list page by page?

Just a small update. Xtreamer Prodigy 3D is coming to town soon.

my sidewinder just dead now.
runs OK but cant detect internal HD and devices that connected from the USB.

where can i buy Xtreamer Ultra?

Sorry for late reply suying, I was wondering too how to flip page by page but have no clue, perhaps this 3rd party apps is not strictly for Xtreamer product?

If you check forum Xtreamer, there are 3rd party apps, like XLive, MyXLive, follow the step by step instruction, you will able to add them into your Xtreamering (please copy/backup your folder) please note not all channels can be watched as either broken link or not support by our local ISP. Happy Exploring

10 days ago, there was new update firmware 2.7.1 released for Xtreamer Pro. After upgrade, like AirPlay, you are able to stream wirelessly your video and photos from your iPad/iPhone to TV via Xtreamer. Have fun

is this better than wdtv live? does it lag when play FULL HD 1080p movie (15-25 GB file size)

There is no lag but i cannot comment on the wdtv live because I dont have one.

Compared to Himedia 900B, at the moment this is better because the firmware is usable and very stable.

The only shortcoming is that the harddisk does not spin down whereas in the 900B it can be configered to do so.
