Hi guys, need advice here. smile.gif

I'm using old vios 2004.
Changed my abs+spring(Koni+Eibach).
Changed rims and tyres to 205/45/16 (RE001).

Feel abit bumpy.
Can my lowered car be fitted with 205/50/16?

Thanks smile.gif

The bumpiness might also caused by ur new suspension setup , the Eibach .
The spring rate u using is important .
I doubt it by changing the tires spec will eliminate the problem

XM1 is old model, shall be replaced with LC. Check the date of manufacturing on tyres, if more than 3 years, then you probably 2 more years to go..

is it really an old version? i do study on internet before buy it. there 2 type xm1: xm1 and energy xm1. on michelin website there's no info about xm1. mine using energy xm1 and manufacturing date on the tyre is '4210'. so i think mine not the old one

there is no new one... Energy is Green tires that's all... XM2 will be out soon... if you look around online it is available some country already... XM2 from online
Primacy LC is new tires replacing MXV8... not replacing XM1... XM1+ is the newer version of XM1...

XM1 has been out quite long already about 8 years i think... old model is certis but they are still got production for both tires...
Current active tires in Michelin in Certis, XM1, Primacy LC (replacing MVX8), Pilot Sport 3 (replacing PP2), Pilot Super Sport (replacing PS2)

tested a staff's car fitted with Dunlop LM-903 or something. made in Indonesia(directional tread like Federal pattern). tire only 2 months old with 95% of tread but the wind noise is very obvious. also, tread wear is a mere 200! high speed progressive steering feel is gone too.

you can get softer sidewall tires... Hankook V8rs... RE001 is a lil hard.. PS3 still ok ok... but if your ride is lower i think it is a lil hard too... too bad Hankook V12 does not have your size...

that size should be over the 3% of the OE size...
*
How much difference between RE001 and PS3, in terms of comfort and noise?

so, u mean that the old vios can't fit with 205/50/16 tyres? sad.gif
mine is 2 fingers at the back.

yeah, it could be.
I thought eibach spring is quite close to stock spring compared to other lower spring.
I also try set all my front and rear absorber to softest.
I can't really feel the bumpy ride coming from the suspesion, but i do feel the hardness of my tyres everytime going through bumps.
That's y i thought it could be the tyre profile or brand. hmm.gif

Lets begin with how to read the Tyre specification on the side wall of tyres.
1. Tyre brand name

2. Pattern or model code

3. Tyre size

4. Service description (Load index & Speed symbol)

5. ECE or EEC type approval number**

6. ECE noise approval

7. North American recall code

8. Date of manufacture code

9. UTQG quality rating

10. Maximum permitted load (USA)

11. Maximum permitted inflation pressure (USA)

12. Denotes tubeless construction

13. Safety warning

14. Direction of rotation (Directional or Composite tyres)

15. Rim fitment instruction (Asymmetrical or Composite tyres)

16. Denotes extra load tyre construction

16a. Denotes reinforced tyre construction

17. Position of tread wear indicators.

**(C & U regulations stipulate all tyres used in the UK must carry an E number)

no it is over the 3% rule compare to the OE size... which will affect your Speedometer & ABS functionality...
PS3 should be slightly better in comfort... but those tires is more towards performance and the sidewall will not be soft... V12 is performance tires but it is soft... so does most of the Toyo performance tires...

yup... at first i thought there will be just a slight difference in comfort, that's y wanna try performance since I like to go fast.
now felt like changing back to 15" and get a primacy LC tyres instead. tongue.gif

yup, I know it will affect the speedometer... but didn't know it will be too significant... sad.gif
also when I meant whether it can fit is that the tyres will hit the fender or not... after done some checking, it will hit... sweat.gif
guess i better stick with the same size (205/45/16) right now or change back to my previous 195/55/15 size tyre if i cannot tahan the comfort.. tongue.gif
gonna do research on Hankook V12 and Toyo tyres, see whether it can do something... biggrin.gif
Thanks bro.

prefer Hankook V12 coz Toyo's tires wet grip is so so only...

BTW stick you 15" if you still need a lil comfort... That is the reason why i did not change my Vios's (yr 05) rim to 16"...
16" onwards the ride comfort suffers then price is expensive, plus lowered i can feel the ouch on the butt...
took a ride on a lowered new Vios J b4, with lowered Titan Spring (front) and Titan shocks/abs all round... he uses 195/55 R15 Federal 595 Evo... the ride is slightly bumpy but still bearable for me...
if you want a lil comfort change back to 195/55 R15, but i duno your comfort tolerance so i suggested u to take PS3 1st instead of RE001 or GSD3... used Hankook V12 b4 on my stock ride, it gives me comfort but don like the handling and the Hydroplaning is not up to my expectation maybe our car too light... now on PS3 think overall is better...
is up to you now... smile.gif

additional wind noise generated by the tire's tread pattern. which affect the nvh.

Ooopss... I forgot...
The reason I changed my rims to 16" is because of 15" is abit more lowered until my car hit the road bump and also at a steep parking lot where my car touches the body... doh.gif
But yeah, my ride is not much bumpy and abit comfortable when with the 15" 195/55/15... nod.gif
ur friends car is the new vios, probably abit high than the old vios? hmm.gif
Still, will have a look at the PS3... smile.gif

PS3 i don think u will gain any comfort on 16"...

if you calculate properly the diameter of 195/55 R15 and 205/45 R16 is not much difference...
so your car height is not affected much...

not sure about old vios but a friend here(kk) is driving a vios with 205/50/r16 tire with stock spring and absorber.
according to him, he changed the wheels at the showroom. so, he could not comment on the fc / acceleration and speedo reading sweat.gif
so far he had no issue(tire hitting fender with full load) with it. my take: his acceleration / fc and speedo is affected.
even the speedo reading does not match the 'speed feeling' gauge tongue.gif

of course la... 205/50 R16 is just 1.4% over the stock (G Spec, 185/60 R15) tires... but if E & J spec (175/65 R14) is more than the 3% if the stock tires already...
we must maintain 3% of the OE size coz it will affect the electronics calculation...

acceleration and fc will be affected... speedo just slightly which can be ignore...

without lower sure no problem but our fren here lowered his ride already...

really ka? then no point lar like this... sweat.gif
guess i have to live with it then...

yup, it is almost identical, but abit higher i guess... tried putting it side by side... just a lil bit only...
tried the same bump that i go through using my previous 15", amazingly no more touching with the 16"... there are 2 high bumps that I tested...

today i felt my ride just abit softer then before... could it be because its still new that the tyre is abit hard? today is the 5th day... hmm.gif
