Actually, If you consider a long run graphic card you should spent on 4850 because if have higher Core clock and Memory speed which quite need for gaming now days. As an extra, why don't make some research before buying the graphic card ? ... this due to your PSU and MOBO whether can maximize the usage of GPU.

A lot of mobo only have PCIex16 but not PCIe2.0X16 which possible cause almost twice capability GPU missing.
(Theory apply same as USB 1.0 and USB 2.0)

(Note: I not encourage you to but 4850 because only needed the Directx10.1 because now quite not very useful now or even cannot guaranty soon because of DirectX11)

Extra reminder: Make research first and compare each ATI graphic card to prevent some regret soon or current.

guys..
anyone experience lagging playing pes 09 using ati graphic card?? me using ati 4770 now.. it doesnt feel as smooth as wen i'm using nvidia 8500gt la.. using 19" monitor playing at only 1024x768.. like tat also will lag la.. or driver issue?? using stock driver from cd. other games are just fine..

1st time using ati GC here.. kinda noob in its function.
*
Dude, It's not possible to lag unless your card is crappier than my HD2600 XT (AGP). I'm using that card with my Pentium4 HT proc and together with Dell's 24" LCD. All Max Setting. No lag or whatsoever.
It'll only lag when I'm playing either GRID, HAWX, or COD4 at Max setting.

EDIT: @wild_card_my

Before this I was using Sapphire HD4870 512MB Big Fan Series and to be perfectly honest, the card serves me well.
It didn't Lag for games like COD4, COD5, GRID, HAWX, PES09, GOW, Godfather2, and NFS Undercover. (all max setting)

But when it comes to game like Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Farcry, it'll lag a bit. When it comes to heavy shooting scenes, it'll lag a lot especially with crysis (all High setting)
In very High setting, it's disastrous.

I don't have any idea about the 4850 card but I do know that the extra memory will come in handy when using higher Reso.

The question is, how helpful will it be?

But the most important question is what kind of games do you play?

P/s: All games were played on 1920*1080~

ultimately still the HD4870 512mb will be faster than HD4850 1GB. just that the HD4850 1GB works a little faster than HD4850 512MB on higher res.......... but generally at higher res, the HD4850 core / mem speed and mem bandwidth will already bog it down compared to HD4870.

Added on May 29, 2009, 1:34 ambtw a point to note, comparing within same brand, HD4850 1GB is still a few hundred RM cheaper than HD4870 512MB. do you think the HD4850 1GB will still be faster? i don't think so.

i checked a couple of reviews and the 4870 seems to do alright (as in not bottlenecked) by the 512mb rams at 1920x1200 res.. and obviously it performs better than 4750 at the resolution too. i guess the choice is obvious now smile.gif

p.s i really dont understand the relevance of 1gb 4750 then.. if the card chokes 1920 due to the lower core and ram speed, who would bother running it at 1920x1200 anyway? what a waste.. should have left it a 512mb.. i guess gddr3 rams are really cheap thats why they thought.. might as well, 1gb awesem..

thats why i ask la.. why like tat.. my 8500gt run more smooth then this new 4770.. anything related to my mobo or cpu?? anything tat i need to tweak in CCC???

one more issue..
i din get much graphic improvement for GRID, the edges are still not smooth. i feel like playing on my 8500gt only.. BUT the game play is very very smooth lo (super fast loading).. ALL compared with my previous GC.
