All of us would like the beta test for StarCraft II to begin. However it looks like some unnamed person at Blizzard unwittingly decided to get tons of web sites in a frenzy by posting up a placeholder for the system specs of the long awaited RTS sequel on the European StarCraft II support site.

Lots of web sites quickly posted up the info but didn't actually read the system specs. If they did they would discover they are exactly the same as World of Warcraft's system requirements. In any case, Blizzard's PR folks have been contacting those sites to squash the "news" of the system spec. The game's official message board also has a statement, saying,"The page where this information was found was a placeholder that should not have gone up. We will have more information about the system requirements once the beta starts." In the meantime the official Blizzard support page for StarCraft II is indeed up and running and has a couple of nuggets of info but with no system specs yet.

In English it means, that isn't the minimum requirement. Minimum requirement has yet to be announced.

I tried checking out a few other games and it can proceed to payment, only SC2 cannot...fark lar like that...I have been saving my Amazon gift certificate for SC2 and they pull a stunt like this... vmad.gif

Just some quick question to the competitive players, do you guys think it is okay to take up this game and play competitively, while i don't really know how high levels play?

if you are thinking of high level gameplay, build your skill off with Starcraft, the second and the first didn't differ much in gameplay style.

Like i said at WoW's subforum, blizzard has a tendency to polish up the games graphic at Mac, so expect the minimum system req is the iMac 3 generation ago and the recommended is the Mac from 2 Generation ago.

About the release date, it would probably still in the mix, they could join in the summer heat but might dragged off till holiday season this year. Do remember that on August/September, Blizzard is going to release the Cataclysm Expansion pack for World of Warcraft, they don't wanna to get caught in the shitstorm that they create themselves.

Nice sigs, but most of them are way too big to be used here.

The maximum total size of the sigs should be less than 70kb.

Thanks by the way.

This is the only game that I will definitely get the retail collector's / limited edition like Warcraft 3.

I am not attracted to CE for other games these days.

Placeholder? For system requirements?

Was there some radical change in system requirements printing in the past decade or so that warranted a need for a "placeholder"?

WTH?

What they mean by placeholder is that when designing a web site it's very common you create the structure first, including links between each pages and all.

But how do you create links to a page that you have not yet written? You put a placeholder page, "systemrequirements.html" for example, and you make the links to this page on all your other pages.

"Usually" you just make an empty page as a placeholder, ie got nothing inside your systemrequirements.html or just some very basic stuff. Then when you have written the full thing, you just replace the file.

Here instead they reused the World of Warcraft page instead (just did a copy past to the right location, renamed it maybe and that's it).

But it was not supposed to be accessible by public until they replaced it by the real one.

Here the mistake was that it WAS made publicly available and people found it out and rushed to spread the news (zomg, zomg, zomg SC2 news!1oneeleven!)

The guy who put the page up definitely made a mistake but the placeholder thing is very "normal" from a development point of view.

It's a Blizzard game.

Knowing Blizzard, their games probably can be played on an ancient rig. Maybe Nvidia 6/7 Series GPU and Radeon 19x series and above.

I'm well aware of the role of placeholders in website design. Just stating that using it as an excuse for this screw up is quite rubbish. Looks more like a practical joke gone wrong.

Well, could be, or could be just a screw-up from someone there.

Not sure that's the kind of buzz around SC2 they would want though, people are already getting bit irritated by all the delays.

No news from the open beta too... that would mean no SC2 for first half 2010 I think.

Now, the time that we've been waiting for. Beta to be launched by this month!! No source required, just go to any official / non-official StarCraft II websites out there & you'll see it for yourselves. I guess it is now time to pray that you've been accepted instead of QQ-ing about the previous no-shows.

Oh, StarCraft II expected to be released mid-2010 but as we all know - Blizzard being Blizzard - it might be delayed further but who cares when beta is literally knocking at the door? biggrin.gif
