Post #19 should come first. Some mistakes due to the limit on images caused the confusion. doh.gif

Protoss:

A few fans speculated that these units render are just a placeholder while Blizzard sorts out the balancing issue. However, considering the fact that they have just released a video of death animations, in particular the one with the Carrier exploding, do you think that Blizzard will still have the time & resource to switch the models around?

Discuss.

P/S: Double post due to the limit on the number of images allowed per post. doh.gif

To spice things up for this new thread, allow me to copy-pasta a topic that is currently being hotly debated in the SCII community: poor design on Protoss air units.

Die-hard fans are complaining that the number of polygons for Protoss air units are a far cry compared to those of Terran & Zerg. What do you guys think? Attached below are detailed pictures of the units & I must say, the comparison they made between the new Carrier & another object is a big shock.

Activision Blizzard's E3 Conference:
http://e3.gamespot.com/story/6210427/starc...stories;story;1

For those with the tl;dr symptom, here's the important part:
QUOTE
[6:53] And now a bit about Starcraft II...

[6:54] The new Battle.net service will launch alongside Starcraft II, which represents a return to the company's roots.

[6:54] Morhaime talks about the series' well documented popularity in South Korea, where he says it is akin to a national sport.

Blizzard is targetting an end-of-the-year release for Starcraft II.

[6:55] There will be a Starcraft II beta test later this summer, and Morhaime offers to get anyone in attendance into the program. Morhaime expects to launch Starcraft II by the end of the year, though he also notes that it will only ship once the game is done.

[6:56] Morhaime says that more about the games will be revealed at BlizzCon and encourages everyone to attend the August show, which sold out yesterday.

[6:56] Morhaime closes with a cinematic cutscene video from Starcraft II's single-player campaign.

[6:57] "The Zerg swarm came as was foretold, and the Protoss, first born of the gods, rose to fight them."

[6:58] Now comes a third group, "But do they come to save? Or destroy?"

[6:59] When the trailer ends, Activision Blizzard chief financial officer Thomas Tippl takes the stage.

I did send in my application with the system specification of a Dell Latitude D620 laptop. Instead of competing againt those high-spec system candidates, I figured my chance should be either greater or nil if I opted for an office laptop. tongue.gif

Blizzard is keeping mum on the purpose of that small lil' icon. sad.gif Some guys claimed that they did not have that icon but once refreshed a few times, it will appear. Either it's nothing special or we're going to have Blizzard going Neo style: Beta testers. Lots of beta testers.

QUOTE(game.chosun.com @ Jun 24 2009, 4:29 PM)
We met a Korean developer of Blizzard Entertainment’s (Shortened as Blizzard) anticipated RTS game Starcraft 2 (Shortened as Star 2).

David Kim (Korean name Kim Tae Hyun) appeared in the 3rd battle report and showcased talent of a pro gamer to become a topic among the gaming community. He is one of the 50 core developers of ‘Star 2’.

Although he won’t reveal details about ‘Star 2’, he had a light conversation with the reporter about his pride being a developer for Blizzard.

Q: How did you become to work in a foreign country?

A: I was born in Korea and went to college in Vancouver, Canada, majoring in computer science. I was going to work for programming for the “Company of Heroes” and “Warhammer 4000” series but then became a balance designer for Relic.

What is the difference between Blizzard and Relic?

For both companies excelling in making RTS games, it seems like Blizzard concerns more for the eSports side while Relic concerns more about diverse methods of play. The companies individually, make their games fun and they are both great companies.

Q: What job do you hold in Blizzard?

A: I am a balance designer for ‘Star 2’. In other words, I make it so that units are needed in certain situations and also make it so that the units are used well in all games. The main goal right now is to match the unit’s characteristics to its race characteristics.

Q: What do you think is Blizzard’s strengths?

A: It is that anybody can express their opinion equally. Any concern, regardless of job, is discussed freely. Also, in each division there are extremely skilled people that are chosen as the leader so as the work progresses, it is arranged that there is a lot of agreement. (This was quite hard to translate, so many words I didn’t know, sorry if it’s wrong haha)

Q: What game do you enjoy usually?

A: My first online game is ‘World of Warcraft’. I am raising an undead mage. I am looking forward to the game ‘AION’.

Q: Your ‘Star 2’ skill level?

A: I am ranked 1st in the current ladder. However, when the game comes out, I will probably get owned by the gamers in Korea (laugh).

I'm lazy to re-upload these images on another host. Many images ahead so be prepared for long loading time.

Note the number of Broodlings swarming to Terran forces. I wonder if these Broodlings deal any damage on impact? Also present is the new Infestor model, though it looks pretty similar to Protoss's old Reaver & weird enough, on the ground instead of under.

A few issues that left me either amazed or scratching my head.

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jun 29 2009, 03:50 PM)
... In the early game Roaches are great units with blink/fast healing...

Roaches can blink?

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jun 29 2009, 03:50 PM)
... When attaching, the Thor's body transforms, pulling its arms and legs inside, becoming a more cube-like shape, and attaching to the bottom of the Dropship...
*
Sounds nice but I wonder if it'll involve any delay while transforming?

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jun 29 2009, 03:50 PM)
... When the Raven unleashes its Hunter Seeker Missile, a large missile slowly flies toward its target, with a red laser constantly pointed at the target...
*
Why call it missile if it flies slowly?

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jun 29 2009, 03:50 PM)
... After a certain amount of time without hitting its target, the Hunter Seeker Missile will harmlessly explode wherever it is when it runs out fuel...
*
Runs out of fuel? Fuel? What?

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jun 29 2009, 03:50 PM)
... a player may be tempted to move their Raven very close to the intended target, however, the Hunter Seeker Missile will inflict damage on friendly units as well, including the Raven, so a hasty close-ranged launch of the Hunter Seeker Missile may spell certain doom for the Raven...
*
Terran has too many units which hit friendly units!

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jun 29 2009, 03:50 PM)
... The Infested Terran start out as sacs that grow on the Infestor's back before falling to the ground and hatching. The Infested Terrans attack using their gauss rifles...
*
Before we know it, Zerg has found a way to mass produce gauss rifles & conquer all Terrans by supplying them cheap.

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jun 29 2009, 03:50 PM)

Woo-hoo!

QUOTE(Cheesenium @ Jun 29 2009, 03:50 PM)
... The Mothership has been sent back to its early skill-set, with the Planet Cracker and Black Hole...
*
Big counter towards Muta-stacking strategy & I thought Planet Cracker was canceled due to the graphic obstruction it caused with all the zappings?

QUOTE(Zero @ Jun 28 2009, 10:53 PM)
The first battle was a Protoss versus Protoss match, on the 2-player map: Blistering Sands.  Both players had an amazing start, calling forth scores of Zealots and Stalkers to battle each other.  This was the first time that I had really seen the Obelisk, formerly the Dark Pylon, being used so much.  At their main bases, both players stationed an Obelisk, and would continually cast Proton Charge over their Probes, in order to allow them to carry additional resources for a short time.  As the battle pressed on, Matt Cooper gained the advantage, and kept David Kim from establishing a stable expansion.  After destroying the Nexus of the expansion, Cooper pressed forward with Immortals and Dark Templar in addition to his Zealots and Stalkers.  Kim sent forth a Colossus in defense, but Cooper's forces stormed up the ramp into his base and overwhelmed the Colossus.  Kim declared "GG" and the first match was over.

There has been a rumour flying around that Blizzard will exclude the LAN feature in StarCraft 2. It's not confirmed but it was reported that it was due to a certain planned technology to be incorporated into the new Battle.net. hmm.gif

An anti-piracy strategy? Does this mean that every single system that wish to join a LAN game would be required to log into Battle.net first? Then those with no Internet access = no player against player experience?
