QUOTE(zioburosky13 @ Aug 26 2009, 10:04 PM) No one would want to pirate Shakespeare's work for it's not the hottest items on the market now. Yes, use a 4 century old piece of work to reinforce your point that pirates only will steal something current... I wonder what else did the literary industry produce in that 400 years? Let's not look that far back shall we? Still strong as ever eh?Well maybe for poor family who wants to their child to be a stage actor playing Hamlet. Then again, Hamlet is free and can be borrowed from state Library (if they have it). |

QUOTE(zioburosky13 @ Aug 26 2009, 10:04 PM) No one would want to pirate Shakespeare's work for it's not the hottest items on the market now. You can't pirate Shakepeare's work for the following reasons:Well maybe for poor family who wants to their child to be a stage actor playing Hamlet. Then again, Hamlet is free and can be borrowed from state Library (if they have it). His works predate copyright law. If modern copyright law were to applied, the copyright expires upon 50-75 years after the death of the author. Yes, there should be more properly stocked libraries funded by the state. Starcraft will be an commercial success whether people boycott it/pirate it. Activision/blizzard is not really bothered about your cash (thanks to WoW) as you can tell from it's delayed release date. Only you (not you specifically) will lose out if you decide to pirate it/boycott it. |

Paper and literature were consider only for the rich people in Shakespeare's time. So if the common wants to read it, they have to resolve to piracy for cheep print. Well that's history now. What they need in Starcraft 2: combat formation. Like Age of Empire series. This post has been edited by zioburosky13: Aug 27 2009, 11:29 PM |

Ah crap, been away for almost a week.

So if the common wants to read it, they have to resolve to piracy for cheep print. Yes, its true that theatre and literature were for the upper class, but I'm pretty sure the middle to lower class citizens didn't resolve to piracy for "cheap print" (Since the then "Gutenberg" was still freaking expensive to use and not even in wide usage). Well that's history now. What they need in Starcraft 2: combat formation. Like Age of Empire series. Hmmm, if you had mentioned this 4 months ago, I would've said "UNPOSSIBLE!", but now, after the whole crap with Modern Warfare 2... I dunno... |

QUOTE So Julian (Jay) Wilson told us that you guys are looking monetize Battle.Net in some way. Is that right? Wow, that's an evil way of putting it. Julian's turning into a business guy on me. Here's the way I would put it. We're definitely not looking at turning Diablo into a subscription based game. It's clearly not an MMO, so it's not appropriate to do a business model like that. The way we approach all of our games now, is we come up with what we think is a great game, and then we wrap the appropriate business model around it. If that's just a box price, then that's that. With Battle.Net we're definitely looking at possible different features that we might be able to do for additional money. We're not talking about Hellgate or anything like that. We're not going to tack things on. I think World of Warcraft is a great example to look at. We charge people if they want to switch servers or if they want name changes, things that aren't core to the game experience, they're really just optional things that some people want. It takes us some development work to do it, so it makes sense to charge for it. We would never do something like say to get the full game experience, you'll have to pay extra. http://starcraft.incgamers.com/blog/commen...-a-possibility/ QUOTE what I will say is that a player who goes to retail and buys the Starcraft 2 box at retail will have the full Starcraft 2 game included in the box and they will have the ability to play on battlenet with no additional fee. |

QUOTE(ch0c0cheeze @ Sep 2 2009, 05:21 PM) I read somewhere it says starcraft 2 and possibly future blizzard games will need to activate the game online through registering in blizzard website before you can play the game. If you dont have an internet connection then you will not be able to play the game. The harder you try to make ur game un-pirate-able, the harder the pirates will try to crack it.Blizzard is going all out against piracy and it will be impossible for pirates to crack this game finally. Sad but true fact. |

They even cracked star force, what you gonna say?
Anyway I once thinking if blizzard dare make battle.net playable only through monthly payment, I will definitely download the game instead of queue up during the launch date for a collector's edition. |

QUOTE(Vorador @ Sep 2 2009, 11:30 PM) They even cracked star force, what you gonna say? Do note that if they do implement a monthly subscription fee, it'll be akin to an MMO, and no MMO on earth has ever lost to piracy (Argue all you want about private servers and whatnot, but they all lack the same thing... community, updates and playerbase).Anyway I once thinking if blizzard dare make battle.net playable only through monthly payment, I will definitely download the game instead of queue up during the launch date for a collector's edition. Of course that would be a ridiculously ballsy move that would probably falsify my statement above (Since the original servers wouldn't have the playerbase at all anyway) Even the Koreans would balk at that. |

QUOTE(ch0c0cheeze @ Sep 3 2009, 08:37 AM) What is starforce? Anyway, I think they have made it clear that bnet is not going to be subscription base. Starforce was this infamous DRM that was used around 2003-2006 which was made by this Russian company. It was the most intrusive form of copy protection ever used since it installed various files onto your computer, had hidden call-home programs which would send your details back to their master server (Unconfirmed) and was nigh uncrackable for 2 years. This DRM scheme alone was so invasive that it did everything from corrupting Windows installations to borking hardware completely.Anyway, like with all copy protection schemes, the idea is to simply stop day one casual pirates (The kind that buys a copy, burns it and passes it to friends), but not the hardcore ones. That being said, Starforce did deny the pirate community Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for nearly 2 years, so that was its only victory I guess. |
