Yea it would really bad cannot play with the local, playing msia server always get 300 ping above, sigh =(
edit: are we talking about purchasing the game in msia and the game cannot work in oz?
*
Yeah,i heard retail wont work outside the country you purchase. That isnt the problem, though,as you can buy from Steam.

The problem are the servers. And,no private servers with less content and updates.

Weird i brought l4d and tf2 from msia and it work just fine, perhaps borderland doesn't work the same? however when i checked out EBgames which they can pre-order online already and it doesn't say anything about any country limitation?
*
Wait, are you in Australia now and you bought your TF2/L4D retail from Malaysia?

Someone else told me that Malaysian retail Valve games dont work out side the country you purchase.

I think Borderland retail will still work at anywhere.

Yup i am in Australia now and i brought tf2/l4d in msia.
Who tell you that Malaysia retail Valve games cannot play? we must slaughter him.. if it is a girl then *ahem* seduce her if she is pretty. oh yea i thought at first cannot play in oversea, but it turns out it work out in Australia too.

I think some people tell you Malaysia Valve games cannot play oversea, maybe its a mistake? perhaps didnt look the option in the filter? the default setting is Asian server?and we couldnt see option for Australia server, if we set the filter option to Australia, then we can see Australia server?
Well yea, Borderland retail can work anywhere, hopefully, need to comfirm from retail store in EBgames if i am free.

It was Torrz told me that his TF2 wont work in Aus,as it shows "this game is not available in this region".

Also,a friend of mine got a copy of Orange Box from HK,it doesnt work in Malaysia too.Same error message.

Which filter are you talking about? The server filter?

Oh left4dead HK version cannot play in Australia region which my hk friends had told me, i have a couple of hk friends who own l4d and cannot play in Australia and I wonder why. Unfortunately in Australia playing tf2 i'd never encounter hk people connecting to oz server, but when i am in msia, i did encounter player from hk.

Hmm... maybe its the version? chinese version l4d cannot support US version one, i did asks my hongkies friends why could not connect to Aus server  and they told me its asian version, which is in chinese fonts and the patch version is different from what they told me.
.
I have no idea where Torrz  brought his orange box, but i could connect anywhere, did he get the game from Software boutique in msia?
yes, i am talking about the server filter, can change to region to Australia server.
click spoiler to see the server image which i had.

Thats getting confusing now.

If im not wrong,my Malaysian friend who got his Orange Box in Aus also cant play it in Malaysia.

Still, for my games, they all can connect to Steam in anywhere i go so far.

I guess you have to ask Torrz when he's here.

Oh,you mean that filter.Im looking at that almost everyday.

I played a lot on 3FL and Internode.

thats all right, i am confused too when come to server restriction, i guessing Torrs have different version or he did not set the filter right.

Oh really? buying Aus game cannot play in malaysia.. hmm interesting, i never brought game from Aus beside ps3 games which i abuse the 7days refund policy, furthermore buying game from Aus really expensive, i might as well wait till i go back msia and buy me some original game which cost way lower.
Oh yea i love playing in internode with 24 player, we should play sometime, love playing on weekend, over 300 player playing, fun stuff.  wink.gif
*
Sure,we should meet up and play sometime.Whats your Steam id?

and edi, not everyone feels like splurging money on 2 games yo tongue.gif its a matter of preference. I for one, did not even get l4d1 because i didn't feel it was worth the price, and now that l4d2 is coming out, i'll likely only be getting it on 2 conditions:
1. 50% off weekend
2. no l4d3 next year tongue.gif (this of course is also dependent on how they merge the games together). heard some news that they're planning something to enable the l4d1 and l4d2 communities to stay together, if it entails completely scrapping the l4d1 engine and installing the l4d2 engine over it while allowing us to play the old campaigns, then huzzah, i'll be on the bandwagon with y'all soon.
*
Im considering to get L4D2 too,if they remove the ban in Australia, but i'll be buying it on Steam in Malaysia so that no censored stuff on my L4D2,unless they include TF2's melee where after you killed someone, their bodies just fly around like a doll.I actually prefer that over the new limbs dismemberment.

The reason i'll probably get is:
- It's a Valve game and TF2 had surprised me with it's fun and extra contents.
- L4D1 is actually quite decent.
- MW2 isnt looking very good now, with the possible delay(no confirmations yet) and all the videos on a 360 which could mean this game is built up for consoles from ground up. It could be a shitty port and i dont expect a Capcom quality port.
-BFBC2 is next year, which also might turn out shit if they design the game for consoles in mind again.

I know why the boycotters hate L4D2,but the thing is,the shear amount of content in L4D2 couldnt be justified without a sequel.

Thats what the boycotters need to know.It seems like a pretty good looking sequel to me.

I doubt that will work. If a game is banned there you won't be able to play it in Australia. 'This game not available in your region' even if you bought it elsewhere and are trying to launch it.

I heard Valve are reapplying with a censored version for Australia. Which means Australia might get a specific version which I doubt will work in Malaysia.
*
Im not sure how it works, but im not gonna get retail here.Im gonna get it straight from Steam where im paying in USD.

Valve is reapplying with a censored version of L4D2.Valve did say that they will patch out the censor later on like Witcher's latest patch.

Would it be possible to proxy it? hmm.gif

I suppose Steam would identify your region purely from IP address.

No point proxy a game just to play SP.

Is not banned anymore... just censored version if you buy it in AUS... you can get friend in MY to send gift to you thru STEAM and you will get to play the un-censored one (unless they managed to censored that too which I doubt that)

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=225073

you can join in my pre-order if you want to smile.gif I still 3 people =/
*
Oh yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally there is a game to compete with MW2.

Im gonna buy in Malaysia then,on Steam.

I actually prefer the censored version. The gore is a bit too much and im not a fan of the dismemberment. I still prefer TF2's melee weapons where the corpse just fly around like a rag doll.

I bet the modders will find a way to bypass the censor.

I'll let you know if i want to pre-order. Payment will be a problem,to be honest.

the only value buy in this pre-order is the 4pack which only cost USD 135 and if divided by 4 is about USD 33.75... pretty cheap considering single purchase pre-order cost USD 45 biggrin.gif
*
True, but if i want to TT the money to your account in Malaysia,i need to add another 22 AUD which makes it no longer worth it.

eh? you don't have M2U account to do online transfer? (sorry to make that assumption if you're not Malaysian or you're M2U account holder  rolleyes.gif ) if TT then definitely expensive liow
*
I have a Malaysian bank account, but it doesnt have online access.

Anyway,i think i'll hold on my purchase for L4D2 first. Im waiting for both L4D2 and MW2 released first, then only buy one of them. Maybe both if there is peer pressure. tongue.gif

Haha,show them the Scavenger mode.

That mode just made me want to get this game.

Then,MW2's Specs Ops mode came,im left undecided on which one to get now.

Ok,you sponsor me la.I'll buy both. tongue.gif

On more serious note,i really doubt i got time to play all 3,which is L4D2,MW2 and TF2.TF2 and Audiosurf alone take up a lot of time for me.

Thats why i'll probably go with one first and get the other one later on.Not to forget BFBC2 in March 2010.That one is also a must buy if it's not screwed up.

Wait,all the games listed in this post have a 2. MW2,TF2,L4D2 and BFBC2. laugh.gif

Mostly like BFBC2 from the looks of it. Cause if IW doesnt step-up, I will definitely go with BFBC 2. Atleast They mention on their twitter page that BFBC2 will have dedicated server support.
*
They can promise everything now,and drop the ball in the end.

Just like IW with "PC will be the same as before" on 22th of September and no dedicated servers on 17th of October.

I just wont put 100% trust on what developers say these days.
