Barry, Cruz and who's next? I thought their problem lies on midfielders and maybe manager?

A slow post-season this term is.

Nope, their problem is actually the player's egoism and individualism due to the price and wage inflation that citeh provides... they looked like 11 players that play only for himself alone.

Santa Cruz seals £17m City switch

Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz has completed his £17million move to Manchester City after passing a stringent medical on Monday.

The Paraguayan hitman passed a lengthy medical with the Eastlands outfit and has now signed a deal to link up once more with City boss Mark Hughes, his former manager at Ewood Park.

Hughes has never made any secret of his desire to have Santa Cruz at City and having assured themselves the knee injury that kept the South American out at the end of last season has fully cleared up, the Blues have completed the signing of the striker.

Santa Cruz is the second big-money arrival at Eastlands of the summer after Hughes captured Gareth Barry from Aston Villa for £12million.

The striker's length of contract with City has not been disclosed.

Despite the improvement of Felipe Caicedo during the final few weeks of last season, City were desperately in need of a senior striker to bring the best out of Stephen Ireland, Shaun Wright-Phillips and Robinho, who continues to be linked with Barcelona.

Having brought the 27-year-old from Bayern Munich during his Blackburn days, Hughes knew exactly what Santa Cruz could bring to him team and after missing out on the player during the last two transfer windows, he was quick to make contact with Rovers counterpart Sam Allardyce with another offer, which this time was accepted.

Although he managed just four Premier League goals last term, the memory of his 23 in 43 appearances during his first season at Ewood Park is still strong and Santa Cruz is expected to clock up a third World Cup finals campaign with Paraguay next summer.

Reds pip Blues to Johnson signature

Liverpool have confirmed they have agreed a deal with Portsmouth to sign England defender Glen Johnson, beating Chelsea to his signature.

Both the Reds and the Blues agreed a £17.5million fee with Portsmouth earlier this month.

Pompey were resigned to losing Johnson, with the player keen to join a bigger club to enhance his bid of keeping his place in the England squad for next summer's World Cup finals.

Johnson was given permission to speak to both clubs about a move last week and the full-back has decided to make the switch to Anfield rather than return to Stamford Bridge for a second spell.

A Liverpool statement read: "Liverpool FC confirmed this evening that they had reached an agreement with Portsmouth Football Club and with Glen Johnson for the transfer of the player to Anfield."

Johnson will be Liverpool's first major signing of the summer, but his arrival is sure to cast doubts over Alvaro Arbeloa's long-term future on Merseyside.

The Carlito style`
Bosingwa will always be Chelski's first choice. Glen made the right decision there.

Blues wrap up £5m Johnson capture

Premier League newcomers Birmingham have completed the signing of Cardiff central defender Roger Johnson in a £5million deal.

The 26-year-old has put pen to paper on a three-year deal which will keep him at St Andrews until the summer of 2012.

Johnson is the third centre-back to join City's ranks this summer following Scott Dann and Giovanny Espinoza.

The arrival of Johnson breaks the club transfer record for a defender. Johnson has been a revelation since his arrival at Ninian Park in 2006 from Wycombe.

Last season he was named in the Championship team of the year following consistently impressive displays for the Bluebirds.

He is also a defender that frequently causes opposition defences problems from set-pieces.

Johnson began his career at Wycombe and was captain of the side before sealing a move to Cardiff for £275,000 after making 183 appearances for the Chairboys.

He was a virtual ever-present for Cardiff last term, scoring five goals for Dave Jones' side.

Johnson told Birmingham's official website: "I am really pleased to be here. Birmingham are a massive club and I am looking forward to putting the shirt on to be honest.

"Premier League football is the dream at the start of any footballer's career so I am pleased I have been given that chance with Birmingham and I can't wait to get started.

"The aim is to stay in the Premier League with Birmingham and hopefully I will have a big part to play in that.

"I want to do well for the club. At both clubs I have been at I have got on well with the fans and hopefully that will continue here."

Now, tell the truth, who thought Chelsea signed Johnson when I put that as updated the thread description tongue.gif
