hot new gossip
Manchester City have made a "stratospheric" offer to Samuel Eto'o according to Barcelona president Joan Laporta. (Catalan radio station iCat FM) Real Madrid have offered in the region of £27m for Arsenal and Manchester United target Karim Benzema after switching their attention to the 21-year-old Lyon striker from Valencia forward David Villa. Rovers agree deal for 'new Vieira'
Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce is understood to have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Steven N'Zonzi from French club Amiens. The 20-year-old has been labelled 'the new Patrick Vieira' after establishing himself in the Amiens team last season. Though Amiens suffered relegation from Ligue 2, N'Zonzi impressed in featuring on a regular basis. He was linked with a move to Blackburn earlier this month, while Premier League rivals Portsmouth are also understood to have shown an interest. However, Sky Sports News understands Rovers have won the chase for the promising youngster with Allardyce agreeing personal terms with N'Zonzi. Allardyce is eager to improve his squad over the summer and his prime target is a centre-forward to replace Roque Santa Cruz, who has joined Manchester City. An experienced right-back is also on Allardyce's agenda after the versatile veteran Andre Ooijer agreed to rejoin PSV Eindhoven. http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,1...5404864,00.html |

The 44-year-old Riley has been a referee for 20 years, including 13 years for the Premier League, and was selected by UEFA to officiate at Euro 2004. Peter Heard, chairman of the PGMO, said: "Mike brings a wealth of top-class refereeing experience to the role in addition to his business experience, in both the public and private sectors, which will stand him in good stead. "We are very confident that he will continue to move the PGMO forward and successfully manage and develop professional match officials at this level." Hackett, 65, will spend six months handing over the reins to Riley before he retires in January. Heard added: "I would like to pay tribute to the progress the PGMO has made under the leadership of Keith Hackett, who has overseen the professionalisation of top-flight referees in this country and raised the standards of Ironically, Riley's final season as a referee was one of his most controversial. The FA were forced to defend him after Everton manager David Moyes questioned his appointment as the replacement referee for his side's FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United. Moyes called for an FA investigation into whether the official had any allegiance towards United. Moyes said: "A member of the press asked me if Mike Riley was a Manchester United supporter and I think that's something you would need to bring up with the FA. "If you're saying that he is, you would hope the FA would look at it. It is something that one or two managers would have something to say about." Hull manager Phil Brown was fined £2,500 this week for comments he made about Riley in March. Brown was found guilty of improper conduct after he accused Riley of a "disgraceful" showing and of being influenced by the Arsenal fans during Hull's FA Cup defeat. Riley is a chartered accountant from Leeds. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...refs-chief.html This post has been edited by solstice818: Jun 29 2009, 02:47 PM |

QUOTE If arsenal really join the race and make the bid, Im positive that benzema will end up at arsenal... adoi~~ MU will miss another signing... If of three of them offer the same price, Real and Arsenal will have equal likely chance of getting them. Real offers high salary and great teammates, arsenal has good french environment for Benzema. Man Utd? Unless SAF is willing to outbid them by quite a big amount, if not i highly doubt they can get him. And i highly doubt SAF will do so. |

OFFICIAL: Manchester United Sign Antonio Valencia From Wigan Athletic
Manchester United have today made their first major capture of this summer's transfer window, signing Ecuador international Antonio Valencia from Wigan Athletic. The 23-year-old has signed a four-year contract at Old Trafford for an undisclosed fee, though the Latics have confirmed that it is a club record. United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted to have secured the player's signature, telling the club's official website, "Antonio is a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan. "I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team." The player himself echoed that delight, claiming that the prospect of plying his trade in front of United's massive crowds was a decisive factor in persuading him to move from the DW Stadium - as was the opportunity to play alongside some of the biggest names in world football. "Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me. I have enjoyed my time at Wigan, but I am thrilled to have the chance to challenge for the biggest honours in club football here," he said. "Playing in front of 76,000 fans alongside players like Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs will be an amazing experience. I can’t wait to get started." goal.com wat do u think?? |

Valencia will compete with Park for a place... a positive thing for Man Utd.
But i think that he won't be an irreplacable player in Man Utd like Rooney or Vidic. |

I think RM will sign another 2 or 3 players. The need someone in CB and back up for CM/DM. Striker wise, if they get Benzema, it'll be awesome.
