Arsenal's Robin van Persie attracts Manchester United interest
Manchester United have been linked with a £20 million move for Arsenal forward Robin van Persie. According to the Sun, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is a big fan of the 26-year-old Holland international and has been monitoring his situation at the Emirates, where he is yet to commit to a new contract. Arsenal have reportedly tabled an improved deal of £80,000 a week, but Van Persie has still stalled, claiming he is more concerned with winning silverware than boosting his bank balance. Recently, Van Persie said: "In the last four years I've won only one prize, the FA Cup, and that is too little. I want more. "Financially the offer is fine but that is not everything to me. It's about my ambition and how that can be fulfilled." Van Persie was signed by Arsene Wenger five years ago but, due to a run of unfortunate injuries, the Dutchman has made just 79 league starts in that period. This, however, has not stopped the striker from being regarded as one of the most technically gifted players in the Premier League, nor has it prevented Ferguson from casting coveting eyes. Reports suggest United are not the only club keeping tabs on Van Persie, with Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho interested in making a bid. A Dutch source is quoted in the Sun as saying: "Robin loves it at Arsenal but he is getting to the age when he wants to win things. "He knows that there are clubs interested in him and is waiting to see what happens." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/...d-interest.html |

typical British media (am assuming Telegraph is British media) transfer rumors i.e. no direct quote whatsoever from the man himself. not even a quote from his agent in that news
on the other side, 20 million pound for a player that only have only 1 more year left in his contract is a good business. not to mention an injury-prone player that is |

nani? not very good to sell robin to ManUtd.
if AW decides to sell, better sell to non-EPL club. This post has been edited by sOuLx: Jun 18 2009, 03:29 PM |

QUOTE(slcroy @ Jun 18 2009, 03:24 PM) I have to disagree. RVP had a good year last year when he stayed relatively injury-free. I know there a lot of Eduardo fans here, but for me RVP is by far our best striker. Losing him would be a big blow to us. With a proven striker like David Villa valued at 40m GBP, how much do we have to pay for a top notch replacement? And perhaps more important, who are we going to get for a replacement? (Maybe Huntelaar, but tbh I've never seen him play that much but don't forget that Mateja Kezman and Dirk Kuyt were both top scorers in the Dutch League before)Therefore, its imperative that Gazidis and co get RVP to sign on the new contract!! Oh and Nani... Well, he's a bit like the teenage CRon, full of tricks but not much application. Unlike the Paris Hilton-loving Portugese, Nani still hasn't grown out of the showpony, stepover2, timbang2 phase and his style is not quite suitable for us. |

if we are to sell Robin, we do not have to buy a striker. if there's 1 place where we are already more than covered, it is the striker department
Ade, Dudu, Nik and Carlos Vela. IMO, Theo also fall in the striker category hence we should not worry too much about losing Robin assuming we sell Robin, the money can be better spend on the other areas that we are weaker at now i.e. the central of the defense area and midfield area |

dont worry about robin? well, i think we should worry coz right now, he is the only person(apart from dudu) that i actually have some faith in... certainly not ade, nicky not yet, vela.. not yet, theo, well he has his moments i suppose, but since he was subbed out for the under 21 championships, it says a lot. arsene cannot seriously consider selling him. and to mu of all people

Those news %#^$^&.Before that link with Liverpool Torres now with rvp.
They are trying to make impossible news to possible.Really ridiculous. Seriously if RvP leave arsenal to any other club i can accept but to manchester utd really don't make sense at all. RvP styles really suit with arsenal. If he do stay longer in arsenal,he will be a legend like Henry and even captain. |

QUOTE(kaka91 @ Jun 18 2009, 04:27 PM) Yes i think rvp will stay longer than cesc unless the next season we see rvp totally free of injury after his wisdom tooth operation Then rvp no doubt will score more goals than anyone and here comes all the rumour and more rumour until sold. Until then,no doubt he will end his career in arsenal. |

QUOTE(kimhoong @ Jun 18 2009, 09:37 AM) I agree that Eboue is not a good RW, but so is Walcott. i do agree walcott needs time and his performance have been average, although he did some wonderful counter that save games. when he run he looses his balance and his control of the ball is not good. then again he is still young and have vast room for him to prove his calibre. No doubt Walcott has the potential but his crossing and dribbling are not good enough to be a good RW - Eboue is better in these. Unless you put it in another way - say, Arsenal does not play conventional wide formation with crosses and headers = so crossing is not a priority. If not, Walcott has little to offer. Yes, Walcott has his glimpses of success and glory in his goals but averagely and consistently, he is still behind Eboue. On Nasri, I do not think he's here to play RW and it's not in AW's plan for him to do - at least, not in the initial plan. Having say all the above, Eboue has the edge to be a good RW in the team - but there are a few issues: 1. He's better as RB 2. Walcott has the potential. When AW buys him, it is in the long term plan to nurture him. 3. (As mentioned before) Arsenal seldom/does not play with crosses and headers. Conclusion: Eboue is to stay to be a backup to both RB and RW. If only he could succeed in DM position, it would be even better! i just found out something when i watch the spain match with some frens. one gave a good point to ponder. notice barca's style of playing is similiar to spain? i think Arsenal lack this...ball control. see the way spain and barca force their opponent to go behind the ball? perhaps arsenal need to control ball as a whole since we are not good at crosses and we dont attack through the middle. and hard tackling teams like the africans and even chelsea can break this kinda ball control play. |
