haha. They consolidate most of their flights, all go through the same route. So, say if u go to Christchuch, you'll have to stop by Auckland/Wellington too laugh.gif
Rarely they have direct flights

Cheapest now would be to transit in Aussie.
I paid RM811 for my flight KL-Sydney return (booked last few days during AA promo). And Jetstar promo Sydney-Auckland was around AUD150 one way.
That makes up about RM811 + RM900 so RM1.7k return KL-Auckland stopover in Sydney for a few hours/days.

Oh, I didn't know that we can transit like this. Thanks!!! smile.gif
For accommodations, any place that's affordable for 5 nights stay?

Yea, to CHC I know have to stop by but to Auckland I thought all direct flights haha. Lucky thing I check. Otherwise total time is plus minus 9 hours compared to direct flight 3 hours. So much time wasted lol.

not really your traditional transit, more like 2 different flight organized by yourself to keep the cost down. Make sure you allow sufficient time between flight as you need to check out and check in again at Sydney / Melb.

Auckland? i settle for St Martins Waldord 300 bucks per day for 2 bedroom apartment.

The best skiing months are typically July-Aug. Sept is a bit late.

Reason is you want the coldest months to get the dry powdery snow which makes for smooth, fast, fantastic skiing.  rclxm9.gif When it get warmer in Sept, the snow tends to get icy and chunky and not so smooth. But no worries, as a beginner you can stick to the beginner areas where they make artificial snow and groom it with grooming tractors so you don't really know the difference.  biggrin.gif

Don't really fancy the lift pass rates though (http://www.mtruapehu.com/winter/lift-passes) at x2.7 exchange rate. Wasn't a problem when I was working there though...

haha, sorry.. my last statement could be interpreted in different ways.

I was referring to the cost of a lift pass eg. NZD99, which isn't too bad if you are earning in NZD (not ski resort job, but just working in NZ). If you earn RM, that becomes expensive...

However, I know that if you are a (good) ski-instructor, or a emergency doctor specializing in accidents (umm that tends to happen on a ski-field), you can get a job no problems. For other types of jobs on the ski-field, you really need to be local with a Kiwi-accent... g'day mate smile.gif But anyway, the ski-field websites have comprehensive information on vacancies and how you can apply.

Hi,

I will be staying 2 nights in Christchurch. Do I need a car to go around? I don't take bus, are there any trams/MRT operational?

Is it easy to drive in the city? I have driven in Auckland, but not Christchurch.

Thanks.

didn't see any MRT / tram.

Driving is still ok with GPS, there are some closed road here and there you would need to detour as you get nearer to the red zone.

I don't see a difference driving in Christchurch compared to driving in Auckland. As usual, pay attention to speed limits and be aware of your surroundings. Use a GPS and you'll be fine.

I'm not sure about public transport but have you book your hotel in Auckland? Maybe get an airport hotel or nearby that provide free airport shuttle transfer. Return the car when you arrive Auckland (at the airport I assume?), take free transfer to hotel, stay one night, take free transfer to airport the next day.

even the bus fare was not cheap in CHC, I still remember is about
NZ 9-10 for a short distance of 2-3km/pac/way. Definitely worth it
to take taxi for a family travel.

hi guys.. if i want to go to south island, that means i should land at CHC right, not at Auckland? The flight should be like this.. kl to australia (syd/melbourn), and then CHC?

Secondly, can my family & I enjoy swimming in the sea or lake in the southern island during summer? so far, I haven't found any pictures showing people swimming in the sea in anywhere in SI..

-If I travel using caravan/motorhome, I can still go to any attractions, right? I mean, there wouldn't be a place where it is reachable by cars only or only cars allowed and caravan is not allowed to pass or park.. right?
