As we all know, iPhone are very data-intensive aka use a lot of data. So I am going to make a comparison of iPhone plans in Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, HK, Australia. It seems that Malaysia telcos are earning big bucks from our excess data usage. Do you also agree that now we talk less on the phone & spend more time surfing the net on our phone instead?
Malaysia
Maxis iValue plans
iValue1 @ RM100 = 333min,200SMS,20MMS,1GB data
iValue2 @ RM155 = 667min,400SMS,40MMS,2GB data

iValue4 @ RM375 = 2500min,800SMS,80MMS,4GB data
Digi (from 7 July onwards)
Digi iDiGi plans
iDigi88 @ RM60 = 200min,200SMS,20MMS,1GB data
iDigi138 @ RM90 = 450min,400SMS,40MMs,3GB data
iDigi238 @ RM160 = 1000min,600SMS,60MMS,5GB data
Singapore

M1 iPhone plans
iPhone Value @ S$36 = 100min,500SMS/mms,12GB data
iPhone Lite @ S$56 = 300min,500SMS/MMS,12GB data
iPhone Extreme @ S$98 = 700min,500SMS/MMS,unlimited data
iPhone Unlimited @ S$198 = Unlimited Min,SMS/MMS & data
Brunei
DST Prima plans
Essential @ B$35 = 300min,100SMS,20MMs,1.5GB data

A$29=$180 value,200mb data
A$49=$450 value,1.5GB data
A$59=$650 value,2GB data
A$79=$800 value,2GB data
A$99=Unlimited Value,3GB data
3
A$29=$180 value,200mb data
A$39=$250 value,200mb data
A$49=$450 value,1.5GB data
A$59=$650 value,2GB data

Virgin Mobile
A$29=$190 value,100mb data
A$39=$300 value,300mb data
A$49=$450 value,500mB data

From all these info it seems that only Hong Kong & Australia offers less FREE data in the plans than in Malaysia. I dont know what is preventing our telcos from offering more FREE data, maybe because they earn a lot of bucks from data nowadays especially when you reach exceeded the FREE data limits . Or it is because our network is still not advanced enough to handle too much DATA flow?

i think i will get an iphone4 soon, But due to lots of over usage problems, i wish to learn how to limit the usage, i couldn't find any thread is teaching about that,
may i hav the thread for tutorial ? or teaching me down here rclxms.gif

Follow these steps to minimize usage first go to Settings > General > Network
1. Turn off 3G
2. Turn off Cellular Data
3. Only switch them on when you need to use 3G
4. Always monitor your upload/download usage
5. Be very careful when using data roaming

Do note the steps above only helps minimize data. There are a few forumers here who turn off 3G and cellular data but still got billed for data usage.

Probably some hidden charges but yet to find a way to justify it.

yeah. digi provides you until usage of up to 3gb after you exceed the data limit of 1gb. for maxis, you have to be very careful not to exceed your data limit otherwise the data charge is very VERY expensive.

hello all. i thought i was the only one facing this problem. last time when i used iphone 2g with celcom prepaid and i used the bossprefs, i didnt get any of this credit problem being eaten silently. after that i changed to bb and then i got back to iphone 3gs. now im using iphone 3gs with celcom prepaid running on 3.1.3 jb-ed and as usual i installed bossprefs and sbsettings.

but seems like its not working anymore i guess? turned off all the settings like JasonSky and tinkerbel mentioned. and even double protection it with sbsettings. but still, im still receiving my push emails and whatsapps notifications even though my wifi is off.

my friend who is using iphone 3gs with maxis had this problem too. he then called the careline and ask him to turn off his data connection once and for all, and he said that its working. i tried calling celcom careline but she said that this is not a problem with the telco but the problem with phone's settings itself sad.gif

sorry if this has been discussed before but i searched the topic and only got to the posts that i quote here.

Spoke to a maxis rep yesterday about these data concerns. Let me share with you. Maxis measures the amount of data you use at about 2AM every morning. That is the point where the server will decide if you are nearing your limit and will form the decision of whether to send or not to send an sms notification.

However, they also have a policy of not disturbing customers by sending sms at 2AM. The system will instead send it later on the morning at about 9 to 11AM. If you somehow are already spending past your limit between 2AM to the time that they send you the sms .... Well you know.

His advice to me is for the first month, closely measure the data usage and close off the cellular data when it is close to the limit and wait for the bill. Then compare with what you measure and what is in the bill. This way you can see if the iphone's measurement tallies with maxis.
