could you guys give some advise on how to choose a pair of shin guards? or maybe recommend some decent ones i can look out for. will be joining a 5-a-side football weekly kickabout session, but i've been informed that i must wear shin guards to be allowed to play.
total n00b about football kit stuff since never played up to serious enough level that i'd invest in shin guards... |

Most of the shinguards out there in the market are decent enough (mostly polyurethrane of plastic material). Unless you wanna spend over RM100 for a pair of aluminium shin guards, I would suggest you just take your pick from any other shin guards you see (price ranges from RM15+ upwards.total n00b about football kit stuff since never played up to serious enough level that i'd invest in shin guards... Question is, slip-on shin guards or shin guards with straps (depends on your comfortability preference)? Light duty protection or heavy duty protection (heavy duty ones are heavier)? errr...not THAT willing to spend RM100 for shin guards. i'm no Scholes. haha
currently living in UK...so maybe the RM15 pairs will be harder to come by. i saw a few Umbro ones going on sale for £3 (around RM15, after conversion), but when i tried them on they didn't feel comfortable. after some time looking & trying around, settled on Adidas T50 Replique for just under £10. not sure if considered a good price or not. supposed to be discounted from about £12. think the sizing for it was confusing...if i were to follow it, i should be a size M since i am 5'3" only. but i thought that L size was a better fit. maybe because of my build? or that model's sizes are on the small side? btw, nice jersey collection there! i only have 4 jerseys, 1 of which my mum gave away to a cleaning lady... |

They've got tonnes that you can choose from. I must say the awareness and importance of wearing shinguards is far more recognised than in KL. nimrod,
Actually you should get a flat sole shoes to be worn when playing in rubber courts. Firstly, i think if the arena is strict, they won't allow turf shoes(marking soles) to be played on rubber courts, coz they destroy the court. Secondly, turf shoes on rubber courts don't offer enough grip. You should try to get wide feet flat(non marking sole) shoes and i think the Nike Tiempo series are quite wide. But yeah, i've seen the Elastico, it somehow looks narrow and the material is quite hard as you mention. Nothing like the previous years' Air Zoom FS and the T-7 which are made of soft kangaroo leather. |

I don't particularly prefer those shinguards that extend all the way as you posted. The sole of the foot feels weird, and you wouldn't have a natural kicking position.. or to me atleast. I usually play with those small ones, I have long legs myself, but I prefer those small ones, yet they are enough to keep me protected, those that come with straps. ( Without them they'll slide all the way down lol).
