If you don't know what to buy, you probably need nothing.

QUOTE(zellleonhart @ Jun 22 2009, 09:51 PM) So... if I wanna buy a zoom lens, which is highly recommended? My current lens is only D40 kit lens (18-55mm NON-VR)... 18-135..dont waste your money on that.. better take nikon 18-70 around rm600-700 2nd hand or nikon 18-105VR around rm8xx-rm900 2nd hand or almost new. all below rm1k.My next lens will be zoom lens or prime lens. If i am going to buy zoom lens, after seeing many reviews about the sharpness of 18-200mm VR i decided to cross it out in my list. Anyone can recommend? Erm I want Autofocus, sharpness, IQ and brand doesn't matter. Third party also can, if cheap + nice IQ then best ^.^ I have 18-135mm in my mind, how is the IQ and price? Added on June 23, 2009, 12:11 am QUOTE(zellleonhart @ Jun 22 2009, 11:50 PM) Me too T.T you have several options :Someone help both of us lol... 18-105mm is good but i think the zoom not far enough... compared to my kit lens (18-55mm), worth the upgrade? if i upgrade my lens i will sell my kitlens away... 1. Sell kit lens and get 18-105VR (get VR at 18-105 range but a bit longer MFD) 2. Keep kit lens and get 55-200VR (but your kitlens doesnt have VR & need to change lenses) 3. Keep kit lens and get this if you want zoom till 300mm. Try looking at Sigma OR Tamron 70-300. It's around rm7xx-8xx NEW. But these lenses DO NOT have VR so it's really a problem at ranges 200mm and above. Nikon 70-300VRii is really good but more expensive. For people who have more budget: Nikon 18-200VRii, Tamron 18-270VC (impossible to find 2nd hand), Sigma 18-250 OS HSM This post has been edited by alpha_company: Jun 23 2009, 12:17 AM |

QUOTE(zellleonhart @ Jun 23 2009, 12:31 AM) get the 55-200VR and not the non VR version.55-200NON-Vr - smaller & got petal shaped hood and 55-200VR longer & got full rounded type hood. yes it's sharp and for a lens that cheap i'm impressed. owned it before. 2nd hand. the VR is really useful and i would say much better than tamron/sigma 70-300. |

Either take 18-105VR and sell kitlens 2. Keep kitlens and get 55-200VR... the advantage of option 1: VR throughout 18-105mm range the advantage of option 2: get longer reach up to 200mm |

Keep kitlens and get 55-200VR... the advantage of option 1: VR throughout 18-105mm range the advantage of option 2: get longer reach up to 200mm I think will get 18-105mm... haiz... nikon 18-200mm vrii is just too expensive for me >.< |

if you want 18-200..there's also options from tamron and sigma that are cheaper...
18200VR is 3.5-5.6 but tamron/sigma 18200 is 3.5-6.3 so it will be slower on AF because the smaller aperture at tele end. if you want faster AF dont get the tamron because the built in motor is slow, get the sigma 18200 with HSM + OS. HSM same as AF-S speed. OS is same like VR This post has been edited by alpha_company: Jun 23 2009, 01:40 AM |
