sprix, you need to manual focus though... so do put this in mind...although you save half of the cost price...but you might need to more than double the effort to capture each shot next time...

50mm equal to 75mm 35mm focal length. So it quite narrow for a potrait show IMHO

so was it a misconception by many when a lot of ppl recommended 50mm for portrait? and in fact 35mm should be the more suitable lens for portrait... ???

QUOTE(kevyeoh @ Jun 3 2009, 11:43 AM) so was it a misconception by many when a lot of ppl recommended 50mm for portrait? and in fact 35mm should be the more suitable lens for portrait... ??? That is not true. Some people even use 200mm for portraits! Any primes/fixed focal length can be used for portraits. Primes are usually used because they are much more sharper. Heck, some people use Tamron 90mm f/2.8 or Nikkor 105mm VR for portrait.

No wonder the photo I edit looks underexposed Well, my desktop monitor is calibrated with Colorvision Spyder 2 Pro. Exposure may vary with monitors, calibrated vs non calibrated. But your photo certainly lacks contrast. This post has been edited by calvin_gsc: Jun 3 2009, 02:44 PM

QUOTE(AlphaBeta @ Jun 3 2009, 03:52 PM) most probably he wants a better bokeh... Ah .... I see. Bokeh cost minimum of 370 ringgit. Hopefully that's enough to satisfy. I'm afraid if he see the 1.4D ter-kang-kang bokeh, then he will regret buying 1.8.

yo guys... damn...i got a good offer to upgrade to d80...do you think it's worth upgrading? or i should stick with my d40 for now and upgrade to something later on if i need it?
btw... assuming if i need to top up RM400 to upgrade from d40 to d80 as reference guide...is it worth?
i'm very new in DSLR...i don't even really master my d40 yet in my opinion...but just that my fren decided to sell his d80 and offer me a good price...makes me think twice...otherwise i would have stick with my d40....
any 2 cents very much appreciated...sankyu!

I would say.. if you can afford it... go ahead. D80 is a much better body than D40.
