Finally! I didn't know where to post questions about things like these I ended up looking through every sub forum, unrelated ones at that -.- ah well..

I have questions! Hope you guys can help me with this notworthy.gif

Here's the situation: I'll be heading to china (guangzhou) for a week, and I need a prepaid number where I could call/text and twitter too. I'm a UMobile prepaid user and apparently international roaming is not available yet. So I'm thinking of getting a second number since I'm gonna buy a second phone anyway once I got back from there. This second number will probably be used as a primary number since my friends and associates are mostly maxis user, therefore I'll just get a hotlink number. I'm a student staying around cyberjaya, kajang, kl, sometimes sabah.

What I want to know is which hotlink plan suits me? Supposedly I buy the hotlink new number starter pack, is it a hotlink 5 or hotlink minimum balance thingy plan inside? What plan should I subscribe to? Imma be a student for another 2++ years, so should I get the youth club plan? If I do can I still get the same rate after I graduate? Oh and, about the roaming thingy I won't have to go to maxis center to activate/register the service, yeah? But what do I have to do though to turn on the roaming service, dial *120* then it turned on lah? Like that is it? Then how much a week for data (mostly for twitter/whatsapp/fbmaybe) ? rclxub.gif I am so confused! cry.gif

Please advice! icon_question.gif notworthy.gif

Hi there,

I've got a question on whether postpaid and prepaid is better. I used to think postpaid has the most value for money, but am starting to think otherwise. For instance, U Mobile...

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Sounds less beneficial at first with the lower data and free sms, but when you think about it if you are a light user...in a month let's say I use 60mins of call and 20sms...I get a roll over of 40 mins calls and 10 sms-es. So if I topped up RM 28 for 1st month and I stay within the "free calls n sms" and at the end of 30days, I still have a balance of RM 28 in my credit untouched which after top up another RM 28 for next month I will have a credit of RM 56 to spare...betul kah?

Digi also have a sweet sounding prepaid deal...they even roll over data until 2GB max! What does the sifus think of prepaid and postpaid value-for-money? =)

Thank you all!

u are wrong. not rm56. refer capoi replies:
QUOTE(capoi @ Nov 16 2012, 11:28 PM)
What I understand for prepaid user, we need to topup rm30 and rm28 will deduct from account. Whats left from account is rm2 with 500mb internet, 100minute call n 30sms. No more rm28 from account. We can carry forward call time and sms for next month but still have limit. This prepaid really suit for light internet user and at same time not make much call like me.
*
yes. topup rm30, deduct rm28, only left rm2 to use. after finished the free mins & sms, will be deducted from that rm2.

digi prepaid which can roll over data till 2GB is prepaid smart plan.
if u think u only make call for 60mins/month, go for it.
if call is about 100mins/month, go for umobile. the diff is umobile less rm2 and also less 100mb quota.

1. if u want to go to other country for a week and need data plan, use that country prepaid number. thats the cheapest!

coz data roaming is not cheap. the 'cheapest' for malaysia telco is rm32/day and that is for postpaid user.
if prepaid a-la-carte, around rm5/mb sweat.gif

2. if u plan to use hotlink as ur 2nd num, go for campus pack (newer version of youth club). max age is 24 years old.

yes roaming charges is expensive.

have u use roaming before?
make call is not cheap. answering call also will be charged. do u really want it?
luckily receive sms is free. but reply sms back to malaysia will cost u around rm1/sms.
so use for roaming call n sms is not recommended, let alone data ~

Nope, it's actually my first time cuz usually I'll be travelling along with family and have no real need of phone calls or texts, but now I'm all alone blush.gif

I'm meeting up with someone (also from malaysia) in hongkong airport and then we'll travel together onwards, so we need to be able to contact each other, that's why I was asked to use the roam service. If it is that high then I'll just have to reload a min of rm100? It's just for important stuff only, btw. I hope that's enough sweat.gif

Beware of the pushy and rude China Unicom counter at Guangzhou airport. The SIM they sell is overpriced and maybe cannot be used in other parts of China where you are going, or not for international. If you can wait until you get into the city, get advice from locals on which one to buy.

Consider TuneTalk One Year for $38 + $10 min starting balance. Others must top up more within 6 months.

International roaming. On demand data use is cheap but might be slow and sometimes quirky. Check website.

I'm deciding between Digi and Maxis for their smartphone postpaid plans.

Any comments about line coverage, internet speeds among these two telcos? These two factors will decide which plan I will take since the cost is nearly similar.

Digi seems to get a lot of bad rep for getting only EDGE in suburbs. Is this the same for Maxis? I'm currently working in Kuantan but hope to get my transfer back to Ipoh next year, so coverage in these areas would obviously be of higher priority.

Looking forward to some feedback, thanks smile.gif

Maxis have been always excellent in coverage and high speed internet.

Maxis is alittle more expensive but you can excellent stability while DIGI is cheap but tons of issue with coverage and stabilitiy

Thanks for the feedback. The new Maxis SurfMore Plan seems quite good although overall acquisition is a bit more expensive than Digi SmartPlan.

Can you guys give suggestion on best prepaid brand & package, mainly for calls & sms. I'd like it to last long like U-mobile 300 days for rm100 reload or digi 365 days.

I know U-mobile gives free call minutes & sms, and easy to switch between normal & dataplan, however i don't know much about digi, i heard activation each year will cost rm30, do they come with free miutes & sms?

Which one offers better rates & goodies?

digi is the cheapest because of their weak network coverage and average stability so they cant charge too high they have no choice to lower it down no.1

2nd because their internet speed are all limited
http://www.digi.com.my/business/productsan...es/dataplans.do

Notice you pay RM88 for 5GB but limited to 700kbps.

when maxis internet plan since u are saying surfmore 50 u are getting speed up to 3mbps to 5mbps depending on your location.

Its up to you can take plan without phone.
