QUOTE(awinfakhari @ Aug 6 2012, 04:20 AM)
hello,im currently using android and i most use is internet, rarely call, rarely text.which telco should i use between maxis and celcom because at kuala pilah n.9 only this 2 telco got 3G line.
i hope somebody can suggest prepaid which is good and the quota and how to subcribe it.
thx in advance smile.gif
*
both maxis & celcom prepaid dont have plan that u want (data + voice/sms).

maxis/hotlink once u reach quota u'll be charged.
celcom prepaid data is rm18/week (no monthly plan). in the end 1 month u need to pay rm72 (rm18x4).

my recommend is celcom postpaid; Celcom First Data + Voice.
call & text will be charged PAYU.
no extra charge after finished quota.

Added on August 6, 2012, 5:02 amoh if u just want to use the internet without voice/sms function, then u can just use broadband simcard smile.gif

1. definately maxis talk48 is the best postpaid service for now for talk&sms around rm60-70/month.

2. if u surrounded by wifi then maxis data 100mb rm18 is enough brows.gif

3. sgs3 is not yet bundled with maxis talk48. maybe later. if u really use the phone with data plan, worth to get it from telco bundle. if not, can just buy outside and pay data plan.

example here if u buy outside and take 100mb rm18, after 24months ur data cost only rm432.
while if take bundle with maxis, lowest data is 1gb rm48, after 24 months ur data cost rm1152.
take bundle then data is rm720 extra but phone price get less rm600.
so its up2u.

4. use apps such as data usage from sigterm that have function to set monthly quota and auto-disable internet once each the quota cool2.gif

5. the easiest way for postpaid payment is via direct debit using credit card. yes can do via online banking too and also from the postpaid account manager portal using credit/debit visa/mastercard.

I am going overseas for 1 year starting Sept.

How can I keep my current number alive at the lowest cost?
I don't plan to use my number overseas, but I will keep it switched on just in case.

Currently I am on Celcom i68 plan.
Any suggestion?
*
i68 contract remaining how many months?

if, less than 7 months, continue to pay rm68/month. after dat convert to xpax.

if, more than 7 months, convert to xpax and pay penalty rm500, instead of paying rm68/month.

thats the cost to keep the number sweat.gif

Edit: Ok, got it.

regarding to the data plans. Is it contracted? means i would have to stick with the plans for 1 year then only i can upgrade or cancel? is it possible to upgrade mid way after signing/using a data plan?
thanks!!
*
if, u purchase device from maxis together with data bundle, then, yes got contract. only after contract can cancel, or pay the penalty.

Added on August 9, 2012, 1:23 amno problem to upgrade while on contract, but u cant downgrade.

example contract value 50 + 1gb rm48, u can upgrade to value 50 + 3gb rm68, or upgrade value 80 + 1gb.
but u cant downgrade to value first (30) or 500mb rm38 or 100mb rm18.

I just remember, Celcom does not allow postpaid subscriber to convert into prepaid.
The only thing that I can do is to convert to Maxis/Digi first, and then convert back to Celcom prepaid.

What about Hotlink or Digi? Do they offer 1 year credit validity?
*
oh ya! i forgot that. thanks for remind me back about that.

its happen to my mom-in-law earlier this year.
celcom postpaid cant convert to xpax directly.
need to port to hotlink prepaid then port to xpax.

btw,
digi prepaid rm30/year (Super Long Life) - http://www.digi.com.my/prepaid/reload.do
hotlink rm33/year (Hotlink 365) - http://www.hotlink.com.my/web/portal/hotli...tlink_365_SA_en

thans erry for the clear up~ since i've never had data plans before coz of using dumbphone, i don't know how would my data usage will turn out to be. I think it's better if i get a phone separately and then sign a postpaid with a minimum data plan 1st...that should be the way for now~..but the phones bundle plan are very enticing especially the knocked down prices of the phones.... laugh.gif ....anyway bro...thanks again for the clear up~

QUOTE(kenlui @ Aug 9 2012, 11:27 AM)
previously I mentioned about choosing either maxis internet value plan 50 or umobile u58 but I just found out about celcom first voice prime package. Monthly commitment is only RM40 and by adding RM38 I can get 1gb of data. For celcom the supp user can pay 38 for the 1gb data too.

If I were to go with umobile or maxis, other than the monthly commitment I have to forkout about 200+ extra. What do u guys think? any other suggetions?
*
do note that celcom supp line call rate is 20sen/min.

u as principal = 40+38 = 78
ur supp= 15+38 = 53
total minimum/month = rm131

another option are:

A. celcom i68 plan (iphone plan) for both of u.

it comes with free call of 3000 minutes to celcom & 50 mins to other.
also free 100 sms & 10 mms to all network.
free data 800mb only (less 200mb than 38) but same no xtra charges after quota.
after the free bundle, the charge is 15sen/min & 10sen/sms.

total minimum/month = rm136
(both of u can call out to celcom almost free + 50 mins to other network)

B. idigi 88 plan (also iphone plan) + digi smart family 28.

i88 will be only rm60/month.
free 200 minutes & 200 sms to all network.
free 1gb data and no xtra charges after quota.

but for supp, only free 300mb/month. no xtra charges after quota.
call&sms is PAYU, 15sen/min & 10sen/s ms.

u & ur supp will get each 40hours (2400 minutes) free call to each other.
also each get free 3000 sms to each other.

total minimum/month = 60 + 28 = rm88

Added on August 10, 2012, 3:15 ampls take note:
1. u MUST buy iphone 4s to get those plan ~ sweat.gif
2. celcom have 12 & 24 months contract, while digi is 24 months ~
3. min/month is exclude 6% govt tax laugh.gif

QUOTE(gullarsh @ Aug 15 2012, 05:34 PM)
I have existing hotlink number (prepaid) icon_question.gif

Later, i want to buy smartphone with the mobile internet plan (maxis/celcom is better?)

If celcom is better, should i use 2 numbers or change my hotlink into celcom?

*I use mostly my phone to SMS my gf, sometimes SMS/CALL other friends on other operators. I wanna have a plan which need cheaper monthly payment with good internet coverage and cheap call/sms rates.

HOPE THOSE EXPERIENCED CAN ADVICE ME ON THIS icon_question.gif

If i use celcom/maxis mobile internet plan, i need to pay monthly RM1++ right? (internet+line)
*
sms ur gf a lot & sometimes call/sms other networks.

hmmm...

for prepaid, u can port to umobile, its rm28/month with 500mb (no extra charge) + free 100minutes & 30sms to all networks.
port ur gf to umobile too, so u and ur gf will have free calls for 60mins/day. ur gf no need to use rm28/month but just normal prepaid.

for pospaid, got few options:

(1) port to maxis talk 48. but,
(1a) this plan dont have data plan with smartphone bundle together. so u need to purchase smartphone urself.
(1b) after reach quota, there is additional charges. use apps to shows ur data usage and auto disable once reach quota (purchase additional data to continue, cheaper than PAYU).

so it will be 48 + 18/28/38/48/68 = which is 116 max.

(2) port to digi/celcom, coz their using 1 rate to all networks. the diff:
(2a) digi, if want to purchase bundle smartphone, u need to pay for data (internet) 1st, call/sms/mms is PAYU.
(2b) celcom, u need to pay fixed monthly commitment fee for call/sms/mms + data (internet), extra usage than monthly fee is PAYU, less than commitment fee still need to pay that fee.
(2c) celcom & digi both didnt charged after exceed quota, but will slow down the speed.

digi min is 48, while celcom is 68 (40+28). for celcom smartphone bundle, min is 78 (40+38).

(3) take broadband plan simcard, continue with ur hotlink, and get dual-sim smartphone.
example galaxy y duos, htc desire v, nokia asha 305, csl or china-brand also got.

(4) if, all this time ur cost to call&sms ur gf is at least rm15/month,
then better u convert to postpaid and pay rm15/month for free call&sms with ur gf, by make her as ur supp line.
if u cant afford for her usage (to other than u), then just take new simcard give to her and she use dual-sim phone.

coz celcom supp line is rm15, same goes to digi family prepaid.
digi family postpaid supp line min rm28. while maxis is rm30.

Thanks a lot buddy. Lots of time u spend there.

I think all telco are like that. Pospaid + mobile internet right? Or is there any postpaid plan that includes 3G data with cheaper price? Would u care to explain about what he said? I'm newbie. THANKS icon_rolleyes.gif
*
no, telco also have postpaid that includes 3G data, usualy the iphone plan (maxis ivalue, idigi, celcom i-plan). maxis also have vpi 80 (500mb + 300mins + 300sms).

if u really want 3gb + supp line, can go for idigi138 (rm93/month). free 450mins + 400sms.
add supp line rm15 (family prepaid) total will be rm108 only (exclude tax).

but this plan must buy iphone (cannot buy other smartphone), and contract is 24months ~

darkdevilrey, maxis user here (also celcom, digi & tunetalk. yes i have 4 mobile telcos. no need to know y).

ok u said that u 1st time using maxis postpaid.
then, u should know, maxis normal postpaid (not biz) plan, once u reach the quota, u will be charged.
stated there, not hidden. as simple as that ~

For VPI plan (its just under the plan rate as u quote):
"You will receive an SMS notification once you've reached 100% of your monthly internet allocation. Choose to upgrade with these affordable passes or continue surfing at only 30 sen/MB."

so if u use VPI80, ur free data is only 500mb.
that plan is for user who only need less than 500mb/month.
ur phone might access the internet w/o ur knowledge, so probably exceed the quota.

for ur use of VPI50 for 7days being charged RM35, pls see the monthly charges as 1st bill is pro-rated.
by default, VPI50 for 7days monthly charges is rm11.67*.
so the free amount also will be pro-rated; 23mins*,23sms* & 58mb*
(*assume the month have 30 days).
once u exceed all the free mins, sms, and data, u will be charged.
dats the reason why ur bill is rm35 ~

for exceeding the quota, maxis will shows the data size and the charged amount but will waived back.
if, usage on that month didnt exceed the quota, the data size wont shows at the bill.
i dont know why they do that, maybe for user to see how much the data they had exceeded.

u wonder why people still use maxis, but u already answer it.
yes, because of the coverage. same goes to any other telco, coverage is the most important reason.
maybe in ur place maxis coverage is not good, but for other people, they have no coverage problem, and can get speed up to 42mbps to online ~! icon_rolleyes.gif

next, ur statement of "unlike digi internet usage 150mb cost RM0.00" is only applicable, if, u sign up with dg 88 plus, smartplan, or idigi smile.gif

if u just signup for dg 48 plus, u will be charged even just using 10kb of data.
while dg 68 plus free 100mb only, u still will be charged for that extra 50mb sweat.gif

since u said maxis line is not good at ur place while digi is good, so just switched back to digi.
u should check the line/coverage 1st before u switch, didnt u?
e.g by using fren/relative phone with maxis at ur place.

and their coverage is never been better than digi. whistling.gif

this is my experience.

Dannyl, ur internet is <300mb, but how about ur wife, also <300mb?
