diagonal line issue is very minor issue anyway, its only noticeable if you have sharp eyes. its thin hair line when playing moving object like movies. some say it occur when a program playing a non-native resolution.
some user feedback:

"The only "diagonal lines" I have seen on my Z-590 are due to the dithering when choosing a resolution that isn't native. Then every laptop will have to do dithering, regardless of brand. The type of dithering may vary, but there will always be artifacts. With "alternating ordered" dithering, this can often be perceived diagonal lines. Whether it's better than the "splottiness" of Floyd-Steinberg dithering, or the circles of halftone dithering is debatable. At least ordered dithering uses very little CPU/GPU juice." arth1 from notebookreview.com

"I was looking at the Vaios today at the SonyStyle store and immediately noticed that. I appears when you move your head, or while moving our eyes around the image, like when following a moving object on the screen. The Z was playing a movie and it was very very noticeable. I cannot stand this! I was completely decided to buy the Z, but went back home without it. - ppeccin from notebookreview.com

"I started noticing it after using the high res Z for about 3 weeks. It's kinda obvious once you notice it. However, it is noticeable only when you physically move/shift/shake the screen. It really doesn't bother me that much given the awesome color reproduction and the great viewing angle of the Z's screen." - Jparity from notebookreview.com

my words: its very minor issue i can say and not a real big issues, i myself have play around some z's for quite some time at sonystyle store, and i havent notice this problem.

for battery drain issue:
the situation is like this. you fully charge your battery meaning 100% and keeping it inside the notebook. on the next day, when booting up the notebook, the battery level has been decrease around 75% ~ 95%. Normal notebook would has around 97% ~ 98% battery lvl. hope you get the idea.

btw, speaking of G series, theres new batch for G series, but unfortunately its release for Japan currently. the new G series known as G3 batch, use processor same like TT series (low voltage Core 2 Duo SU9300 and SU9400 respectively) while maintaining its business taste like 12.1" matte lcd screen type with LED backlight, traditional keyboard, and pristine looks.

the old G series which use single core consume around 0.85 - 1.1 V, so with the standard battery (5800mAh), it would approximately last around 7  ~ 8 hours with wireless on , browsing the internet and some mild typing task.

as for performance wise, the new G3 is absolutely sits on top of old G series and its another alternative for mobility peer to choose a notebook that last longer on the go aside the current TT series.

hope its clear for ya.

cousin use it but its the first batch release. pretty decent notebook, very shiny and fingerprint magnet. run cooler and moderate gpu card.
user complain about the noisy fan.

usually price at sonystyle will remain fix unless there's refresh model coming as in stock clearance.
what sonystyle display is the current inventory they have. it may vary with the current stock at sony hq.

if you willing to wait why not. i might replace my current with vaio z, but well thats somewhere in july ~ august perhaps.
the price will remain the same while the specs get updated.

Not yet, maybe in 2 months. There is no clearance sales at the moment except TT, TP3 and LJ model.

VAIO NS is already discontinued.
