wiki-san doesn't have answers to all things nutrition lah.
synchun : you might want to check this site out for the free stuff : http://www.truthaboutabs.com . Or check some bodybuilding sites. The only thing that I notice about wainting 6 packs is that you probably may have to cut so much of fat and carbo down. You might also want to follow these 10 nutrition rules. http://shawnhaviland.blogspot.com/2009/01/...-nutrition.html Since you're trying to aim for 6-packs, it may mean greater sacrifices on your diet. I don't have all the answers so you may still have to read up a lot and test out whether it works or not. Also, you probably ahve to bungkus food from home or eat homecook food. There's too much carbo everywhere in outside food (especially sambal belachan). |

LOL! It helps when one is not alone in this.
Very tempted to step on a scale though. I'm feeling very out of control atm because I can't tell how much weight I put on during last weekend when I cheated pretty badly. I'm debating whether to face Syd G's wrath by doing so... shadowjass : nice food but I can't take that much corn. |

I think that they give the links to the free reports there.you were saying i have to cut so much and carbo? whats better for 6 packs? 15minutes of HIIT or 1 hour of jogging? http://www.truthaboutabs.com/FREENewsletter.html Read the free report. Syd G : Got a reply from my friend about protein supplement.
QUOTE Well, my research back in Japan not so much utilization in the meal replacement beverages, but more of how to modify the cereal proteins enzymatically to increase the functionality by decreasing the isoelectric point (pI) of the proteins. One of the main reason why a protein is not soluble, hence limit its application is because of pI whereby the net charge of the protein = 0. So at pI, all the protein will aggregate. My current research are actually much more related to the usage of milk protein in sport and functional beverages. However, we do not focus on those solidified beverages that sell by the direct sales company. Instead, we want to improve the heat stability of the whey protein, and increase the concentration can be used in the beverages. Let me just give you a brief idea on milk protein, the main focus in the nutritional drink market now for increase the usage of it in their products. In milk, only about 3.25% is protein. From this 3.25% protein, 80% of them are caseins (what people generally know more about its acid or rennet coagulated form known as cheese). These caseins when naturally occur in milk, tend to group together to form casein micelles, which is the main reason why milk is "white", because the large casein micelles scattered the light. Usually during cheese making, after cheese curd is formed, there will be large amount of liquid remained (yellowish green color) know as whey liquid, with rich potion of whey proteins in it. Few decades ago, it has been used as animal feeds or dispose away. However, nowadays, whey proteins is the "gold" in the nutritional beverages. This is because the amino acids of whey proteins have been extensively studied to possess a few good points. Just enter "benefit of whey protein" in yahoo, you will see how many information you can get about the goodie goodie of whey protein. I give you one of the link here. http://www.wheyoflife.org/benefits.cfm Whey proteins are especially preferred by atheles because it is a "fast burning protein", which if you consume before workout, will help you to burn your body fat efficiently without losing your muscle mass. So, many beverages companies are trying to use whey protein to produce instant drink target for different market but the problem is whey protein has low heat stability. Once it is being heated above certain temperature in certain concentration, it either aggregate or form gel. Which is my main research work now. But still, this is the main problem in the industry. If you read the nutritional label of a sport beverage, you should be able to see what is the content of the total protein in that serving, and what kind of proteins they use. Other non-milk protein that they use are soy protein concentrate or isolate, hydrolyzed protein (from gelatine, soy, milk including whey and casein) etc. But the percentage of protein still not very high, probably about 4-6% protein. That is why they still tend to sell them in powder form. Which in your question, when some protein drink if you don't drink, will solidify, I believe it is not because of the protein action, but the side ingredient, namely hydrocolloids that are used, commonly including carrageenan, pectin etc. Some hydrocolloid do not need to be in hot water to thicken. These hydrocolloids when inside water, will interact the water to from very thick paste like texture, not going to give any harm to the body but not nutritionally significant too. But they will fill up your stomach, which is why you feel full after that. Half the info is what you know already. But interesting to see where the drinks industry is going with whey protein. |

QUOTE(redninja @ Apr 23 2009, 01:43 PM) myremi - yay another 30-Day-Shredster! I'm quite interested in the Cardio Biggest Loser workout .. the one with all 3 of them .. if you get it do let me know how you like it. One thing I noticed about the Biggest Loser DVD was that it's more friendly for big sized ppl. I haven't tried it yet.If you're talking about the Biggest Loser contestants think they don't use the DVDs lol. They work out like 4-5 hours a day (and have the luxury to do so since it's kinda like their job lol) Maybe today cannot do. Got too many activities this evening, Toastmasters and then farewell dinner for colleague at a steamboat restaurant. Maybe do about 15-20 min brisk walking on elliptical machine for today. shadowjass : Here's some suggestion for steam fish. I would use a bigger bowl for steaming fish, especially if steaming with vegetables.
This is how my Granny steams fish. We used a bigger fish, hence the "fish steak". Red snapper that was steam with garlic and ginger. You can see that we cut the ginger into strips and garlic into slices. Sometimes, she uses small shallots (purple onions) that are sliced for a bit of sweetness. Sometimes also uses tomatoes to give it the sour taste. Another steam fish. This time with 1/2 teaspoon of tomyam paste mix with water. I couldn't find any lemongrass in my parents kitchen so I just steam it with some garlic. The garlic is to get rid of the fishy smell. If you don't lick garlic, you can also use lemon grass. This one was admittedly sloppy because too much garnishing. I steam the fish as normal. Then stir-fry until try the strips of small shallots and ginger until brown and crunchy. Then put it over the steam fish. In the Chinese restaurant, the Teochew Method would be to steam the fish in soya sauce, stir-fry chopped garlic until brown and crunchy, and put the garlic on top of the fish. For whole fish, really , just need a bigger bowl. The thing about steaming fish is that you can also steam it in an oven. Just fold the aluminium foil until it's like a small dish and place this aluminium foil over a plate. Then put the fish in. Added on April 24, 2009, 1:02 amAbout the fish dishes : All are without salt added into it except for what's in the seasoning (like the tom yam paste). No oil either except for the last picture with the garnishings. Added on April 24, 2009, 1:05 amcharge-n-go : I think you may need to work on your core muscles more. Your arms and legs are strong. Just your body is out of proportion. Unfortunately, you may have to find someone help you though and go through your diet and exercise routine. Both are probably working against you. My first attempt at Bento. I'm still not good at guessing whether I did proper portion control but if this is correct, that meal is about 600 calories. The container is actually a collapsible sandwich box that looks like what's in this link : http://lunchinabox.net/2006/08/18/collapsi...ich-case-debut/ I bought one for RM4.99 from Parkson Grand in Kuching in their bargain bin. I also thought this was really really cool. Would be easy to get kids to eat their food although their parents would be scratching their heads. Haha! http://cookpad.com/recipe/376073 |

Forgot to mention : the sandwich is made from wholemeal bread with scrambled eggs + cream cheese spread. Long beans are dividing the sandwiches and the cherry tomato to make it eye-catching.
Planning to hunt around for some quail eggs this weekend and some low salt nori too. |

QUOTE(synchun @ Apr 24 2009, 01:28 AM) Oh, it's honey wheat bread. It's like 50% wholemeal 50% white flour without any salt. I made it using a breadmaker that I have. Have to make another loaf this weekend for my colleagues to try out. It's actually a pretty dense and dry bread. Although I'm now suspecting that the organic wholemeal flour may be different than what I expected. The bread is pretty dry. Going to try another bread recipe and see how it goes. I'm also guessing that I now have to buy some brown rice and start cooking it. Maybe garlic brown rice or something like that. Then make it into those little rice balls that are cute. Haha! Very kawaii The things I do just to keep motivated to lose weight. Good morning bright and cheery everyone!
You know, one thing I noticed about the past few days is the fact that everyone was itching to measure either their weight or BF. Yes, we got the usual panic moments of binge eating but hey, that's life. Life isn't lively withouth those panic moments. Anyway, something to motivate all of us. It's time to live life, no matter how hard it is to do it. It's more important to finish strong. We shall finish this 30 day FATSO challenge. Strong. Happy. And, feeling damn good. QUOTE(charge-n-go @ Apr 24 2009, 09:46 AM) Exercise routine is good. My diet should be the key, as I am eating 5 meals per day, each meal isn't that good. I am still experimenting. Hmm....maybe I can help since I'm bentoing now. You mention that you don't have a kitchen rite? What do you have in the house atm? Then I know my "working boundaries" for healthy food preparation. Added on April 24, 2009, 10:20 am QUOTE(badutman @ Apr 24 2009, 10:07 AM) today thinking of trying elliptical machine as someone said (i think it was charge-n-go) it burns more calorie than treadmill Bear in mind that this is a theoretical calculation though. However, what one sees in the mirror may be different. Ellipticals tend to be low-impact but not quite engaging all body movement completely as walking does. That's why PTs generally still recommend the treadmill because it's a better body workout compared to elliptical, especially when it comes to jogging on a treadmill. Some of the gymfolks can explain it a lot better than me. Mine is a layman explaination that may not even be right. This post has been edited by myremi: Apr 24 2009, 10:20 AM |

If you want hot food, either get an electrical steamer or a microwave oven. The steamer may be a heathier option.Oh, and investing in a rice cooker is good too. This is without having a cooking stove (and that is another conversation altogether). You can control your diet better this way rather than having to eat out all the time. |

QUOTE(JoAnn0302 @ Apr 24 2009, 12:41 PM) I've no idea what fish to get for steaming. With low carb, it's pretty easy. Just drop out the starchy foods. But bear in mind that you can't go without some carbs at least. If there's not enough carbs for workouts, you may find that the body is switching to muscle breakdown into fat for energy if you're not careful. As long as you don't exceed the recommended period by the diet, then it's fine. Thanks for the suggestions. I need more creativity and ideas on my meals esp those with less preparation time. The only time where I could prepare a proper dinner would be on non-WO days. If I workout in the evening, dinner would be quite late, ard 10.30pm or so. So, I'll just prepare sth simple like soup or eggs. Anytime later than that, I'll take a scoop of casein & almonds before bed. Added on April 24, 2009, 12:45 pm looks yummy..but I am on low carb now...avoiding starchy carbs.... With the short period of time, you may have to do some food preparation during the weekend then. I usually try to cook 2-3 dishes over the weekend that can spread the remaining days. I freeze them if I need to. Example is roasted meat or soup. I just discovered the simplicity of steaming food yesterday and the awful lesson that steam food needs to be removed from the steamer, even if the fire is off else the food becomes overcook. Steaming takes about 10-15 min and you can do multiple ingredient steaming at once. That was the interesting bit. Learnt that from the Japanese diet rules. Added on April 24, 2009, 12:58 pm QUOTE(zeist @ Apr 24 2009, 12:47 PM) I don't know what should I do with the Marigold HL containers. Everyweek I collect 2, now I have like 20 of them. I wouldn't mind having some lah. Plastic containers for storage expensive. Problem is, I'm in Sarawak. Already used 10 for my fish. I have pink, green, blue, yellow colours. Nais.
