Eh, how to toilet train a cavy?
You can try by luring it with its favorite vege. I did this the last time.. I put some veges on top of the litter pan. Keep doing this laugh.gif i also put hay on top of it so it stands on the litter pan for a much longer time. Also i pick up their poo and put it inside the litter pan laugh.gif

As I am reattempting to toilet train my GPs... my sheltie also sits in the litter box all day and her long fur got really dirty. Had to bathe her again less than 1 week after her previous bath coz she was horribly dirty. But if I put the "grid" on top of the litter box then they won't use it. Headache, hahah..

Jasw does your litter box have sort of like a tray on top of it? There should be some space between the tray and the bottom (where you put bedding to absorb the pee and poo). If there is the fur shouldn't get dirty easily~.. if there isn't, try putting one biggrin.gif

There is 1 white color grid thingy that comes with the box, but if I put it, they wont use the litter box, thats the problem. They are still not fully litter box trained, still sometimes peeing around the newspaper...then sitting on it, lol..... So now the only way to keep them clean is change the newspaper 2 times a day and the litter box shavings everyday. Seems the litter box training makes even more work for me, LOL

Yeah i had this problem also.. the grid problem.. they dint want to go near the litter pan.. i think the grid makes their hands and paws painful.. Coz the grill is thin... I switched that litter pan with a ferret litter pan, the grill is plastic and the the gaps between it are much more smaller. Then only they wanted to use it.. litter training will take time definitely XD took me a couple of months too sad.gif

I did try something today. They like to poo inside their hide house, so i moved the hide house to the top of the toilet. i also sweep all the poo and dump it inside. Hope the gp can get a hint from there.

CKW what kind of bedding are you using? U mention toilet trained.. but is there anything that you put to make them toilet train or they do it in one spot in a part of the cage on the ground?
*
i m using chipsi classic..

i put a plastic pan at a corner at the cage... add some bedding on it so tat it can last longer for poos and pees... and they oni poo and pee on that plastic pan.. i make them to only pee and poo there by moving all the poo and peed bedding over the plastic pan.. and they start to learn to oni pee and poo there lor..

but now they like to sleep on there... how ah?

Chipsi for GPs i think wont absorb that much ><; thats why i use Breeder Celect for the litter pan.. it becomes like a cake when its really wet XD Another alternative is to put many litter pans around the cage.. but i think this is gonna be hard huhu coz of cage space. This is for training.. no matter where they go, the litter pan is there for them to use.. As for the sleeping on the litter pans uhuhuhu, all i can think of is make a nice hide area for them.. something more comfortable. Just to usher them away from sleeping on the litter area lol.. But i think its the heat now.. they prefer to rest in the open. It could just be a phase..

hi everyone...this is the pic of Simba, the brown/orange baby (Cyndy's kid) and Brownie, one of Nao's kid. their age is 1 week apart (Simba is older 1 week than Brownie) but as Brownie was born bigger than any other babies she is now the same size as Cyndy's batch. Can anyone help me identify Brownie's color? izzit grey Agouti? I see her fur is white at the root n changed gradually grey to almost light brown towards the end...she is surely speciall to me rclxms.gif
