FW400 is not 4pin, it's 6 pin
4 pin is know as iLink (refer by SONY) or 1394

if your videocam use iLink, look for iLink to FW400, then use the sonnet adapter
*
4-pin version is still firewire, dats y it's still called 1394a. juz not 'apple's version', as u said it's sony's

I want to upgrade my hard drive on my Macbook White 2.4 GHz. What option I have? And what is the largest capacity hard drive can support in my Mac?

Currently the hard drive that running on my Macbook White is a 320GB Samsung 2'5 hard drive. The problem of this hard drive, it will lower down the quality of the video that capture from my DV camera. What are the reasons? Should I change a new hard drive?

I am thinking of upgrade my Macbook White 2.4GHz (not the Nvidia one) RAM from 2GB to 4GB. How much does it help me on running Final Cut Pro on my Macbook White? Or should I upgrade it?
*
final cut pro ah...i dont think it's a good idea. imovie not enough for u?

ur video quality is not because of ur hard drive...upgrading wont fix that. what format is the video?

Now my HD RPM is 5400rpm, i want to upgrade hard disk but if the rpm is 7200, can it work ?
*
yeap, but they supposedly shorten battery life a bit. i just read somewhere the other day that WD scorpio blue 500gb is still the best performing drive, even beating out 7200rpm ones

Hey guys,

any idea how much 1 pc of 2gb ddr3 ram for my MBW will cost. I actually plan to get 1 piece so that I can run on 3gb ram instead of 2gb. What is the recommendable ram brand and is it a hefty job to DIY the ram replacement?
*
why not juz get 4gb instead? if ure using 3gb u're missing out on dual channel.

1 pc shud be around 170-190. i'd recommend corsair or mushkin. OWC and crucial is supposedly better but have to order

i downgraded back to my stock 250gb hard drive sad.gif

few months ago i mentioned after upgrading my hdd to a WD scorpio blue 500gb, i noticed bad hdd performance and it got worse over time. at 1st i thought i got a faulty unit, so after sending it back to the shop they gave me a new one. turns out the problem rose again. i went ahead and did a clean install of SL, and again after a few weeks, suffered the poor hdd performance. here's what im talking about

these are screenshots from activity monitor when i'm cloning my system (the 500gb) to the stock 250gb drive using superduper
Attached ImageAttached Image

u can see the 'valleys' which indicates there a no hdd activity. during this time my system would freeze but still can switch apps n the dock still magnifies. it gets serious that it looked like this

Attached Image

screenshot of superduper during cloning

Attached Image

copying 7gb took 25mins. the whole cloning took a whopping 12 hours! for a ~180gb system sad.gif. for comparison, i cloned my system before when it was just ~130gb and it only took 4-5 hours

i have 4gb RAM and they were never full according to activity monitor. also, transfer rate from an external hdd to another external hdd was normal. that's why i suspect the internal hdd prob. so anyone have a clue?

as i said this is the 2nd unit i got. could it be that i got two faulty hdd? damn unlucky ;p

Thanks fr the info, but then is that every DDR3 are compatible with MBW? Sorry noob question >.<

Hmmm, anyone install RAM urself before? Is that very hard to do? Coz i scare i ll ruined everythig. lolz.
*
supposedly all are compatible, but i'd suggest u to stay away from kingston. some users got issues with it

consider mushkin or corsair

hi guys, i have a question to ask

i have macbook pro 13" 2.26Hz 2GB RAM 160GB

I would like to upgrade my RAM to 4Gb, so my question would be what is the best option for upgrading my macbook pro ? should i go to apple center or should i buy a 3rd party ram and install into my macbook ?

And also if possible, please quote the price as well.

Very much appreciated
*
since u bought it already, then ur best option is to buy 3rd party and install urself

i bought a pair of 2gb Corsair DDR3 RAMs for RM350 or so.

apparently (from this thread) the best brands are OWC and Crucial but those you have to order online, and are slightly more expensive lah. you can also get Kingston KTA or Mushkin 'for Mac' RAMs but those are overpriced.

so i'll recommend get Corsair or the normal Mushkins. Kingston KVR got mixed results so try to stay away

yep, very easy. open up the bottom panel n u'll see ur ram in the middle, each module held in place by two fixtures. juz push the fixtures outwards n the ram will pop up. repeat for the other module (located under the 1st one).

then insert ur new ram (make sure with the correct orientation) from the same angle u took out the old one, then push it down. the fixtures should match the notches on the modules

i bought that HDD too. it seemed to work fine for 2/3 weeks..then become slower and slower. i cloned everything to the stock 250gb, swap it back n never experience the problem anymore. now i just use the 500gb as external for movies etc

no idea why though. i took it back to the shop already, got a new unit, and still same problem.

the 500gb scorpio blue shud b the best HDD for MBP...lots of reviews say so. tough luck :S

lol why suddenly got other people experiencing this. last time i voiced it out here, i was alone tongue.gif

cannot say WD is better than seagate lah...both are very good. juz that specifically for 500gb 2.5" SATA drives, the scorpio blue is supposed to be the best. maybe newer batch not good?
