My dog, pomeranian always non-stop bark in the midnight, 2-3am.. No matter how i scold and bit it, it still the same..
It only stop barking when i come down from my room, once i off the living room light (it sleep in cage at living room) and go back to my room, then it start to bark AGAIN.

Someone told me tat just let it bark and it will stop after awhile, coz it know tat no matter how, owner oso wont "choi" it. But it is quite annoying since it bark in the midnight, the next day my family and i still need to work cry.gif

I duno whether it wan to sleep with me, coz sometimes i cant tahan it, then will bring it to my room. Then... it STOP barking.

Anyone can help me to solve tis problem? Thanks notworthy.gif

not all dogs are the leader/independent type. try cradling your dog on its back like a baby and see if it stays still or if it fights to get back up. if it stays still, its a submissive/manja dog. if it fights back, its a dominant/independent one.

if your dog is dominant, he may just want to show you who's boss and he's barking to have his way with you. just give it some time and let him adjust to his new surroundings.

on the other hand, why dont you keep it inside your room?

if you are worried about it doing its "business" there, just take it outside to do it after meals and just before you go up to bed. it will develop a habit for that and it can hold it in till morning.

i dont think it is solution. sometime you need let dog come out, because they bark for reason. like want do poo or pee.
but the much the dog bark no stop, is they want come out from cage. outside world more free.

- ignore your dog will only make it worst.
- dog's mouth guard is kind of abuse, imagin if you wanna talk i tape your mouth.

play with ur dog for an hour before you sleep. burn all her engery, she will go to sleep at night.

this will surelly help.

if she is soo hyper that 1 hour play canot flat knock off her. then play for 2 hours.

this will SURELY help.

It will only stop barking when :-
1) I let it out, and it play around.
2) Bring it to my room and sleep together.

u need to check out what is ther reason. did she pee poo b4 she go in to the cage?

if she its not because of pee poo, then try to play more b4 she go sleep, make her totally knock off, bring her for a long evening walk may help also.

Actually, it's debark...and yes, it's very cruel. Plus, what's the use of a barkless guard dog if he can't bark to alert you of strangers? Kind of defeats the purpose,no?

Reading your post sounds like your dog is a pup, but then reading further on, she's already 1 year plus? How long has she been with you? Has she been with you since she was a puppy, or you have only just recently adopted her?

If she has just been recently adopted, probably she's not used to your house just yet...however, if she has been with you since her puppy days, maybe there is something she is trying to alert you of? Perhaps there's a rat or something near the place where she sleeps? My dogs sleep downstairs as well, and they bark a lot when they hear funny sounds (like cars / motorcycles late at night, etc)

You could also teach your dog the 'Quiet' command....here's a link as an example to help you to do that: http://www.dogtrainingbasics.com/BARKING.htm
There are also other training methods to teach your dog to be quiet. Google them to find out smile.gif

Muzzling the dog overnight = bad idea. It can't drink water, and will be very uncomfortable. If your muzzle is too small he can't open his mouth to breath properly either. Muzzles are only for short term use (usually when being handled by a stranger eg. vet/groomer)

Anyway muzzling a dog isnt going to help with the noise. He won't bark. But he will start whining. Which is more irritating.

Since he is caged up all day, and only let out for a few hrs while you are home, then caged again while you sleep, its pretty obvious that he doesnt like to be caged. Who would? How big is your cage? Is there space for him to walk, stretch, turn around and stand properly? If not, you need a better enclosure.

Try to lock him in a room at night with his water/bed and toilet (if hes toilet trained), otherwise, let him out in the garden after dinner until you want to sleep then put him back in the house. He will do his business outside and won't want to do it in the night. (Adult dogs can do this, puppies need to go more regularly and will need a litter box). Don't lock him in the cage, sounds like he hates it. For all you know during the day hes disturbing your neighbours by howling no end. You don't know because you arent home

If you don't want to let him run in the room freely at night, then buy a wire enclosure and close up a corner of your living room at night. Then he will be able to run around a bit and play by himself

Remember a dog is not a toy you can keep in the cupboard and take out only when you want to play with it. No living animal likes to be caged or tied up with no freedom to move about comfortably.

Agree with Sashan , try to uncage him if your dog has been toilet trained. I dun cage my MS pup .. he dun bark and sleep when the light is off.. but he will wake up every 730am morning ..

maybe try not to cage your dog?
i dont know, but i nvr believe it caging a dog. a dog needs to be properly trained and i dont see a reason to cage them.

Some dogs do it just because they like to bark...you can train your dog the Quiet command too if you want him to be quiet when told smile.gif It's good that he would bark, but you can just let him bark for a while, then tell him Quiet. That way, he knows that it's good to bark to alert you and your family, but there's a limit smile.gif

i have the same problem as well. i just adopted a shih tzu (4 yrs) that was abandoned by his owner [can read the story in my blog or in the shih tzu thread]. we keep him in the house during the day, but when it's sleeping time, we put him in the kitchen. once we leave the kitchen he will bark and bark and BARK! non-stop until 3am sad.gif

then early morning around 7-8am bark again...

it is not annoying for me, i'm just worried that he gets traumatised. i can hear him barking from my room upstairs and i feel very sad. everytime we bring him to the kitchen he will refuse to go to his spot, looking very sad (but didn't bark). only when i leave him, then he start barking.

we used to put him in the front of the house but when it rains, he gets wet (my roof is short). he will also bark when we put him there but just 10 mins he will stop. but in the kitchen he just keeps barking and whining.

i think he hates the kitchen. should i just ignore him so that he gets used to it?

what can i do? cry.gif

I kept the dog since it is 4 months old smile.gif Hmm.. i think it bark not bcoz of unfamiliar with the house, maybe it feel lonely and boring during the night.

Last night, my dog sleep from 10.30am - 5.30am.. Mmmm.. Not bad not bad. I brought it for a walk during evening, and taught it some simple command during night time, maybe this helps it to sleep.

whenever it barks, kick its butt, or wack it gao gao!!!
joking lah............

Like this lah, u cage her during day time coz u need to go to work, fine lah. During night time, better dun cage her lah. Either u keep her in your room, or go get 4-6 piece or play pen, like that she will feel better. Sometimes dogs like to hide, so maybe u can buy some enclosed dog house for them, so that she can hide inside and sleep.

Last time I also cage mine during day time coz work mah, then when i come back, I'll release her. bed time she'll sleep in my room.
Now, i need not to cage her liao, day time, i lock her in my room. Leave some toys for her, provide water as well. But make sure u've toilet train her, else will have pee and poo in your room oh.

This is what a playpen looks like:

Most pet stores have it, I think...they sell it for about RM16-20 per piece. A whole playpen is made from as many pieces as we like...for your Pom, since it's a small breed, you can use 3-4 pieces smile.gif

i think most of the dogs like that and mostly they don't wan to be alone. I put my Shih Tzu inside the Toilet during the night around 11.30pm to 12.00am. Cannot put her in before 11.30pm oh because she know it's not her bed time yet =.=, than she will quietly sleep until morning 7.30am. Good girl right? Hehehe.... Actualy we all are same, when she's just a little baby, we ignored her. It took us about 1 month to train her not to bark. Just "Ignore, Ignore & Ignore". And 1 more thing, when we put her into the toilet, we will never never and ever make loud noice outside the toilet. Cuz she will know somebody is not sleeping n she'll start barking and wanted to come out and play.

Your Pom is so small, he can't push it around...smile.gif I have a Chihuahua at home, and although he tries to push whenever he's bored, he couldn't make it move. smile.gif Unless your dog is a really huge dog, the play pen works fine...I've had the play pen since Scottie (my Min. Schnauzer) and Kenji inside since they were little, and has had no problems with it at all...way way better than caging the dog smile.gif

Try ask ur family to tahan for a few days lor. And try communicate with ur neighbour. If u keep go down and entertain her on 2-3am, than she forever will be like that. Must try to ignore her for awhile. She bark also will get tired wan.

Doubt a Pom will be able to move a 4 piece play pen but just in case, you can just block it with a pail of dirty clothes or water.

When you are home, let your dog out and play with it. Burn all it's energy and when it's time to go to bed, let it go to bed. If you feel that you need to use a muzzle, then by all means - better than people complain and get into trouble.

Muzzle may seem cruel but if you sleep, your mouth also close. Open also not that big, provided you dont tie too tight. Give some space and untie and let it drink water in the morning.

Poms needs a lot of attentions, they are very manja dogs. I guess your pom just want attention. After reading all the barking dog story I think i'm blessed that I got a chow chow. She never bark unless got stranger at gate. If she is inside the house, she can even doesn't bark a single time in few days.

do u bring ur dogs to parks, stroll like that? i read that some dogs who don nvr go out feel frust n channel their frustration n energy to excessive barkings. or give them sthg to chew on may work. so i read

discipline very important, softly tap their ass for disobedient n reward them with biscuit very effeective my long time dog owner fren practice

his non exotic dogs nvr go for any training...so discipline, even they hungry in front of rice my fren took out for them they wont eat but sit still till my frn signal them 'can eat'...
