Hmm... maybe yours is isolated case?
10.9 is slower on login. Otherwise it's more or less like 10.8.
After 10.9.1 it seems much better.

I have a Macbook Pro 15-inch, early 2011 model. I'm having some issues, it will suddenly hang and the screen is distorted with vertical lines on the screen. Noticed this usually happens when running more intensive apps (or many apps at the same time). Then when I hard reboot, I'll see the grey start up screen and that will also be covered with many vertical lines (and distortion on the apple logo). After power on and off a few times then it'll boot properly.

Also noticed some black powder coming out from inside.

Very common fault on all 2011 model (15 & 17) that have dual graphics. Be aware if you keep hard reboot your Mac, your OS might corrupt at one point.
The powder are non related.

Thanks for your reply. So that means it's a graphic card issue, right? Is it complicated to fix and will it be very expensive? Btw what's the black powder?

Hi sifus,

So recently I spilled some water on my early 2011 Macbook Pro and I sent the laptop for repair because I couldn't turn it on. The repair guy told me that it would cost around 1300MYR to repair the motherboard and replace the keyboard. The water only spilled a little a the left side so the harddisk is safe. So my question is, do you think the price is okay or should I try sending my laptop to another place?

Thanks!

What size is your unit?
Keyboard replacement maybe will cost around RM400-500.
Did they mentioned what part on the logic board is faulty/ need repair? Did they show you proof that which part of the keyboard is faulty?
If you have doubt, it won't hurt to send to other place for second diagnosis.

hi,

I see you've been helping the forumers here on the mac issues. salute you.

me too, chime in with a mac problem.

MBP 13in early 2011 model, out of warranty, will not power on. sent to aasp for diagnosis, and was told to replace logic board, costs rm2100 to get it repair. very expensive in my opinion.

question: can you direct me to 3rd party repair who is able to do the job for me?

thanks.

Any idea how much does it cost to change Macbook's (Aluminium 2008 model) battery? Mine seems bloated and it's affecting the trackpad (not clickable).

Hey, you can find it on eBay and Amazon too.

Cheaper than Apple Store, but I am not sure whether it is genuine or not.

Just loan a working charger to test. No friend with a MacBook then just drop by any reseller. They should have plenty charger on display unit.

Files remain same. Doesn't matter where you copy them from, so long you did no alteration. But Mac OS X have an option to hide file extension, and if transfer to PC, they might appear as unknown file without extension, but if you know what file they are, just add the extension accordingly.

I've bought a 13' macbook pro late 2009. The warranty should have ended by now. The problem with it is at first the screen froze unless pressure is applied to the monitor. few months later i can't start the macbook at all. one more thing, there seems to be leaking current problem with it. how much does repair cost?

Dear all. I have a simple question here. I have a Macbook pro 13' late 2011. I would like to know roughly how much will it cost to upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB? Thanks!
