So the hero in me decided to climb the stairs. Up twenty floors. Of course, the hotel staff frantically tried to prevent me but I was having none of that and used "gaijin  power" (those who live in Japan will laugh at this phrase - it is well-known). In the end, a cute receptionist decided the only way I was to be allowed upstairs was to be accompanied so together we both went.

I kind of felt sorry for her. 20 floors was no joke and the world-over, somehow emergency escape stairs are always tall and high (to save money perhaps). I was in shape, having run 5x a week for some years, and she apparently, though cute, was not. So I kept waiting for her every 4-5 flights of stairs while she did her best not to huff and puff or even appear inconvenienced in any way. That's Japanese customer service for you.

Indeed the very best; even in such dire situation, she was still committed to resident's safety * salute*

tatsuyachiba, I really enjoyed reading your Jishin experience in Japan, Aligato for sharing. rclxms.gif Hopefully, there will be no jishi when we visit Japan this April (touch wood). Sakura and Jishin do not match well.

Okay aligoto, then we know what to expect when we're in Tokyo.. We will just pretend it's Ogawa machine doing full body massage on our body whenever there is mini jishin.

I've experienced a very mild tremor few years ago at Setapak, and it made feeling nauseous, rather than on Ogawa laugh.gif

Anyone here who can help me with

1. Japan's list of public holidays for 2010 as well as their school holidays ?
2. Thinking to come back and see the sakura. How best to plan for this? The short blooming period of the flower is a problem as can't buy ticket too early.

hey hey! I plan to visit japan maybe bout 10days?
I'm going with my family for an holiday, hence i think it;s better to take tour because i don;t know anybody there..
my family are only available end of may.. means we can only make it for Hokkaido's sakura season??

I wanna see Sakura since it's the main point of going Japan during Spring =D
and visit Kyoto and dress up as geisha!
and go Tokyo for shopping!

and also historical place like Hiroshima maybe? and Mt. Fuji?

What are the must-go place in Japan???

I don't think you can make it in 10 days. Sakura might still be available in Hokkaido end of May but mostly will drop off by mid May, depending on weather. Hiroshima, Kyoto, Tokyo, Hokkaido is imposible for 10 days. Even 2 weeks is hard. Travelling to Hiroshima and Hokkaido will be expensive and I dont think there is any tour which includes all these places. If you are lucky, there might still be snow in Hokkaido during May.
