QUOTE(catherinessc @ Mar 25 2012, 03:20 PM) for the ladies... anyone here ever wear skirt during autumn/winter? how thick will your tights be if u were wearing one? wanna try wearing sheer tights during winter... haha. Hi,I always always wear skirt during winter trips. I've tried medium and thick leggings before. Thick one for me is the one i got from MNG. The medium one is half the thickness of MNG ones. For me, the medium one - cannot really tahan much of the cold if it's 5c and below but at least it's doable. The thick ones - no prob at all. Sheer tights, if your tights have those 'keep warm' material in it, then why not but don't say we never advise you to bring/wear proper clothing. Anything below 8c - you'd have to be able to keep yourself warm coz you're out the whole day and what not. |

For the body you may need 3-4 good layers for example a (1) thermal underwear, (2) long sleeve fleece shirt, (3) another long sleeve jumper/sweater and (4) winter jacket. Even your winter jacket need a good one like a thick down jacket - this can be expensive since good down jackets are not cheap. If you don't want to buy this, ask your tour company if can rent in Harbin. For legs you'll also need long johns and probably insulated pants. Thick hats and beanies for the head and of course thick gloves for the hands. |

QUOTE(segamatboy @ Jan 11 2011, 04:59 PM) I disagree. Synthetic fibers are the best. Down jackets are not wind resistant. Problems with down jacket is that down absorbs moisture and clumps up. Also , over time, down drops to the bottom half of the jacket The main advantage of synthetic fibres is only that it doesn't absorb as much moisture as down. In terms of heat retention, high quality down insulates better. You can check the clo values to see the difference. As for wind resistance, all depends on the shell fabric. You can get down jackets with wind resistance. Down does not necessarily drop to the bottom of the jacket. The jacket has got baffles and you just need to fluff the jacket once in a while. |

QUOTE(stimix @ Nov 26 2011, 07:58 PM) Ensure you're getting a good quality down jacket wth atleast 90% doqn. Uniglo superlight RM299 down jackte actually very good already but I dun think can withstand below -20..Go for Uniglo ~ RM449 series.. BTW, Even you goto Uniglo Seoul/Beijing the price is almost the same wth KL. so it's that price already for good quality down. You can get dirt cheap down as well esp those China made but whether it's genuine down is abit ???. When it comes to down, looking at the down % doesn't tell you the full picture because you don't know the quality of the down. It is better to know the down fill power (if you look at the well known brands from the west they quote fill power). Unfortunately, most of the China made or locally available down jackets do not give you the fill power info.Another thing to know is the down fill weight, i.e. how much down in the jacket. That is another factor which influences how warm it will be. The Uniglo superlight down jacket does use high fill power down, but fill weight is low (hence it is a superlight jacket). |

QUOTE(sweetss @ Aug 23 2012, 11:02 AM) Anyone wear converse shoes during winter before? TT I wear my adidas sneakers (similar to converse sneakers). But the insides of my shoes have faux fur. It does feel abit cold but i think if it's normal one, it might be a little cold and maybe will get a little bit wet at your toes. Do bring a pair of extra socks when you're out. Dry them out on the heated floor overnight and you'll be good to go! But when you walk around, you'll create a warm flow already, so dun worry.I don't know what shoes I should wear. I m goin to Seoul on January.. Isit very cold? Seoul is EXTREMELY cold. It's so much colder than Tokyo if you compare these 2 places. However, it's not as dry as Tokyo winter. Altho you still need heavy creams to apply on your body to prevent skin from getting too dry or skin splitting (this is extremely painful). |

QUOTE(cute_miao @ Aug 24 2012, 08:08 AM) Thanks Stimix. January will be the coldest month of the year for any northern countries which has winter.Mind to gv me suggestion on the suits i should take there? APologize for my noobs. Budak kg la saya Sometimes the forecast is just forecast, you should really see last year january's weather. It shouldn't defer more than 5c IMO unless of course the weather has gone nuts. I don't know for you but for me (i'm a gal who can tahan cold weather but my skin will be super super dry). Get a good down feather/synthetic bomber jacket. You can get one from Uniqlo - stylo and not too expensive, down feather and best of all super light and can lipat until very compact). You also need long sleeve shirts (t-shirt which is long sleeved) and also jumper if you want. Normal jeans/work pants will be ok. Usually only upper body can't tahan that cold of a weather. I also suggest you to bring more socks coz, even tho it's cold and you're wearing leather/canvas shoes, your socks at the toe part will be a little wet - dunno why.... but you can let it dry overnight if you don't want to bring too many. Also to sleep, you should wear long pants + jumper with hoodie incase, your blanket is not warm enough. Altho i do warn that alot of the mattresses in seoul are electrical - can heat up, you might get heat bumps (like pimples but not really) if you sleep on that warm of surface. It happened to me and it only went away after 3 weeks. But hor, for me, i sweat when i sleep with winter blankets + heated mattress. Alot of the time i sleep without blankets even in winter if it's moderately heated. Hope this helps! |

QUOTE(jam_lennon @ Aug 24 2012, 03:10 PM) There is this heated pack hand warmer thingy that you put in the pockets and hold onto it when your hands feel cold. I don't know where to get this in Malaysia though. Found out about this when I was in Germany few years back, saw all the matsalehs not wearing gloves while my hands and ears were freezing so we asked them how can they go without glove. Then he showed us that hand warmer pack in his pocket which explains why their hands always in the pocket. Holding onto it with bare hands may be too hot so wearing glove and holding onto it will be perfect. And gloves are actually really annoying sometimes. IMO, you can't do anything properly with gloves on. |
