woolen scarf, long johns, inner long sleeves top, woolen sweater, woolen cap thingy, woolen socks, gloves, skiing gloves (if you're going to play with snow), winter pants (inside got another layer wan, it shud be waterproof and windproof) and windbreaker..

if you're really scare of the cold, get a "monkey mask", i dunno what is it really called but my parents called it monkey mask. it's something like those robbers wear on their head to cover up their ears, mouth and nose.

also bring vaseline, it's like super super important, u can use it for your lips, fingers, legs, wherever. if the weather is too dry, your skin will itch also.. so don't bath for too long even though it's like so nice to bath hot water in cold weather, cause the hot water will make ur skin even more itchy.

when i go cold countries, normally before going out and before sleeping i will rub vaseline onto my fingertips and on my feet. then put on socks. oh yea, wear socks to sleep also, it can really keep u warm.. somehow my socks will not stay on until i get up.. lol.

as for shoes, i've been wearing normal sport shoes that we can get over here, has never been a problem for me.. of course u have to get those more rugged ones for tracking like that.

anyway, you go to those winter clothing shop and they will help u out wan la.. winter time, etc.

oh yea, when i was in europe, some uk tourist told us to get hand warmers, it will really keep your hands warm so the fingers wont feel so numb if you're not wearing gloves.. but i dunno whether can get them here in msia or not..

if face, its better to use ur usual moisturizer..
it doesnt mean dry then no pimples or whatever, some lotion might be too much for ur face.. u can try to go to their local pharmacy to get their face moisturizer lor..

but then sometimes my face is so dry and itchy, i just smack on some vaseline.. then come back here all pimples lol.. sweat.gif

Usually send for dry cleaning, then sun it under the sun andden back it goes into the cupboard.

When I want to use it for my upcoming trip, I'll take it out and sun it, before using it.

As for long john, depends on what material. If it's just cotton then just dump into washing machine. I don't really wear long johns, I just wear tights under my jeans. Lol.

wat about heated glove? anyone use before? or other glove experience at climate -30
*
There is this heated pack hand warmer thingy that you put in the pockets and hold onto it when your hands feel cold. I don't know where to get this in Malaysia though.
Found out about this when I was in Germany few years back, saw all the matsalehs not wearing gloves while my hands and ears were freezing so we asked them how can they go without glove. Then he showed us that hand warmer pack in his pocket which explains why their hands always in the pocket. tongue.gif

Holding onto it with bare hands may be too hot so wearing glove and holding onto it will be perfect. And gloves are actually really annoying sometimes. IMO, you can't do anything properly with gloves on.

heat packs can get from Daiso, rm5 inside got 1 pack which can last for 4,8 or 12hours. but i more prefer battery-operated heated gloves, but being research on the few from ebay, max can only last 2-3hours which i dun think it is sufficient
*
Yea, I've seen before in Daiso and actually bought before but it was hopeless and useless. But the ones I saw overseas were of pretty good quality and lasted much longer than Daiso's. Well, can't expect much for RM5.

Haven't seen anyone selling battery operated gloves in Malaysia. I would think it's gonna be quite big and bulky to put it on.

There's a thread on winter wear and preparations:
http://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=972657&hl=

Food & drinks - basically what you can get. People tend to eat and pee more when weather is cold.

For me, most important is to stay warm and also apply lots of lotion as the skin can get very dry and crack up during winter.

But for 16-20 degrees, it's not that cold, like cameron highlands like that. Nothing much to prepare imo. Night time you'll most likely be in a heated room anyway.

If you're going to somewhere  snowing, suggest you have waterproof gloves and maybe windbreaker too
Because snow eventually melts, and turns into water

And u don't want to be wet in the winter
And lots of lip balm / moisturizer

Don't forget waterproof shoes. laugh.gif

The worse feeling is soaked socks and shoes.

Since it has been long, just wondering, for waterproof shoes (preferably not boots), anyone got any recommendations on the brands?

Currently looking at a few brands, Salomon, Jack Wolfskin, Merrell etc.

My pair of trail shoes are from Columbia. Their range of waterproof shoes are called Outdry I think.

Columbia. Hard for me to see and get. Lol. That's why I am still viewing around. Not really wanting something that is for hiking but to go around especially under the rain.
*
Hm I do have a pair of timberlands as well but it's bulky and looks more like boots. The Columbia pair I have actually looks like walking casual shoes, not too bulky. And comfortable to walk in. So I use it for travels since can be worn for city or hiking use laugh.gif

i heard some phone/camera will not work if too cold. that's why i want to know.

I'm sure it'll be fine. It's not that cold. I would be more afraid of hot than cold. Weather too hot, might overheat and burn out lol.

Universal traveler, Wintertime etc. seem overpriced. Where do you guys usually get your winter clothing?

Jeans
Long John top
Tshirt
Down jacket

enough for winter? My first time this year end  innocent.gif

Uniqlo.

And if you're going to China, my warmest winter jacket bought from China. Damn cheap and last damn long.

Uniqlo's look so thin. Are they warm enough?
*
Layer up.
Their heat tech is pretty good for me. I like how their products are thin yet warm.
