The sunway campus sports facilities is non-existent. Pitiful for a "world class" university >_>
But you can't brand monash just like that. Did you know... Team Monash in Australia especially in Clayton.. their badminton team is world class. I'm serious. The players there are serious players and there are many state players from the Selangor team and state teams, and they represent Victoria and NSW for certain tournaments. From what I know, even some Singapore youth national team players cannot represent Monash, because they already have too good a team. I know it may sound meh to anyone not into badminton, but if you are a badminton player, you will know that if you can play on par with state players, you're very very keng ady ;D |

Eh? There's a basketball court in Monash now? wtfux?
Well... actually, I realised that the students in Monash Sunway are not really opiniated and don't voice out their frustrations to the university. I think you guys should work with MUSA to ask them to have more sports facilities on campus. Or at least, work with sunway club to have memberships for monash students or something... really, sports makes a student's life more balanced - and its easier to make friends through sports too. This should enhance the international student's education experience in Malasyia. |

QUOTE(Grimm @ May 6 2010, 10:20 PM) oi nokia, she's talking about sunway campus punya laaa! yikes! my most sincere apologies!1k isn't really a lot. I mean, thats what my parents give me. Really depends how much you spend on what. Some people shop every week. Some people treat themselves to delicacies and fine dining frequently. Some people read a lot, and spend a lot on books. Some people go to the movies like 3-4 times a week. Some people spend a lot on pool and foosball. Some people club a lot. Some people drink a lot. And then there are some like me, who game a lot (Asia Cafe robbed me off I think 4 figures already =X Sooo... it really depends on your lifestyle. Basic expenditure in Sunway area RM450-800 for accomodation depending on type and location RM200-300 for good food (please don't starve yourselves, go get some good food... KL air is already a killer, don't kill your body anymore by eating sucky and unhealthily cheap food all the time. RM100 for entertainment? drinking, movies, whatever... RM50 for misc spending, books, clubs and societies, parties, birthday presents, etc. I don't think RM800-1k is a lot... this is Sunway/Subang area we're talking about, not like other colleges punya area where you can get like RM150 for a single room =.= no such rates here, unfortunately =/ i blame that partially on my lack of sleep back then. i genuinely only sleep for 2 hours the night before (thanks to 2 assignments due on the same day). anyway back in sunway, i was under really strict budget. i got MYR500 which includes tolls, parking fees, meals (i rarely eat at home) and leisure. i also have a cap of MYR50 on my monthly mobile bills (which means, anything more has to be footed by myself) and 25 litres of fuel (sufficient to get me, to and from sunway and home. hence if i needed to loiter around, most likely it will have to be out of my wallet) rent and utilities are free of course (since i'm still living with my parents) QUOTE(Grimm @ May 6 2010, 10:24 PM) I drool at the AUD120 for daily meals for an entire month. WTF? sorry for not being more articulate. the food catered is for both my brother and i, as the portion is sufficient for us. AUD120 for 30 meals ah? Summore CATERED? I think thats a damn good deal. I mean, even though we cook, after dividing, its about RM80 per person per month. I wouldn't mind paying 40 more, and no need to waste time cooking =D But then, my cooking skills improved tremendously during my time here ;D ohya, I have 2 papers only because 1) its my last sem, i only have 3 subs (thanks to me having taken a summer in sunway in my 1st year) 2) out of the 3 subjects, one of my electives (Money Market Operations AFF3301) is a 100% internal assessment - without any final paper 3) so i'm left with 2 ;D but unfortunately, they HAD to be back to back they don't cater during weekends and hence it is AUD12 per day multiplied by 5 days and 4 weeks. for the weekend, my brother and i will cook instead! Hi guys, i'm new to this thread and i have some questions regarding Monash in Sunway and Melbourne. I WAS intended to do a twinning (inter-campus) in Monash. But now I am also considering to do 3 years straight away in Australia instead cos I particularly hate it when I have to make new friends and start my life all over again on my second or third year of uni.
Just hope to hear some experiences from those who either complete their degree in one campus or those who did twinning before. I understand it might have been asked before but I just wanna hear more advise and an overall recommendation. (eg: "better to do 3 years in one country [or 2+1 etc.] because ......") Any comments would be fine, no matter it's about standard of education, standard of living or social life. Thanks in advance ^^ This post has been edited by vcj1992: May 8 2010, 09:29 PM |

Hello! You're thinking of doing business aren't you. What I can say is, it all depends on you, whether you want to go there for 3 full years or do 1 or 2 years here. Thanks in advance ^^ But I'd say try doing at least 1 year here in Malaysia first. Now why do I say that? Then you'll have the chance to experience life in both campuses, a chance which you might not get again after you graduate. |

QUOTE(angeltong @ May 13 2010, 11:35 AM) y prefer monash than imu for healthcare course? monash pharmacy and medicine only starts next year. And monash is well-known for engineering . For healthcare course, imu is more well-known and more experience. u r so wrong...monash medicine already started quite a number of years already...albeit not as early as IMU..the pharmacy will be into its 3rd year next year.. for one i dun like about IMU is they are money minded(increase fees every year) and they accept tooooo many students... medicine alone is already 200++ students while pharm is about 100++ students...their lecturer to student ratio is certainly not healthy... i am not doubting their quality..they do produce good professionals....but if terms of well-known..i think people will know what is monash compared to IMU in overseas...i may be wrong here... Yup tingtongten. I think you should scout around in Monash marketplace.
ALSO, you have to know where you want to live. The number of South-Eastern suburbs of Melbourne that are popular with Monash students are Clayton, Mulgrave, Springvale, Glen Waverly, Oakleigh, Boxhill and anywhere within 15 mins walk to the clayton campus - blackburn road, wellington road, somewhere along the princes highway, and the Rusden apartments. [Clayton campus students] Malvern, Glen Huntly, Murumbeena, Caulfield, Carnegie, Armadale - and anywhere within 15 mins walk to the caulfield campus - all around the city of Glen Eira. A lot of students also choose to live in the city. [Caulfield campus students] I don't know about Berwick unfortunately. I'm only familiar with these 2 campuses |
