Not too sure in regards to the open electives as per the business school, but I'll use the IT school as an example here.

In Comp Sci, there's 3 types of subjects:
- core
- elective (or Comp Sci electives)
- free/open elective

core subjects are well, the subjects compulsory to the course. you cannot escape these.

the electives are the subjects that you can choose from a given list of subjects

free/open electives are subjects that you can choose from anywhere. does not have to be an IT subject, it can even be a business or communications subject.

btw. do you mean 1st year or 1st semester? 'cause you can only do 4 subjects max in a semester, and there's also 6 common cores for the Bachelor of Business & Commerce. If in doubt, go and see your course manager right away on how to plan your subjects accordingly to your selected major. the last thing that you want is a mess up that results in you needing to do extra semesters to get your major.

You have to take at least 4 common core units and 2 electives in you first semester O.O That can't be right ^^" You can only take 4 subjects per sem or was it choose from a list of 4 common core units?Common core units are the compulsory subjects for anyone doing that degree for your case anyone doing a business degree regardless of their major.

"Open Electives" usually mean any subjects within the university from any course you like doesn't have to be business.

Is Monash good for engineering?Or are there better universities(those which offer twinning or inter campus transfer to Australia) for engineering courses?

any1 here apply for 1.5 + 1.5 transfer to caufield for business student?
i kinda blur now.. coz i scare i miss the application... and i noe theres onli 1 month holiday in june.... and result will out quite late... so how can the process be done in just few days? like visa, paying deposit... any1 here can guide me? =D

are the other 2 electives?

Yup. Depends on what you want to major in. I took Accounting B (acc major) and Money and Capital Markets (fin major).

i'm a new monash student at sunway now. but i would like to transfer to melbourne after i ended my 1st year here. i'm taking banking & finance - marketing double major. which campus would i probably tranfer to?

If your results 70~75+ Clayton
If your results 65+ Caulfield
If your results 50~64 Berwick/Caulfield

You can also transfer to peninsula or gippsland I think, tho I don't know of anyone who did.
