for your info, the syllabus is in english and the teaching should be deliver in english too since the engineering reference books and teaching materials are mainly in english version.however, we found out that only some lecturer using good english when lecture.why?because of the students are weak in english?i personally think that this is the main concern for the lecturer to use malay language in class.

of course most of the lecturers are malay.u are in malaysia, right?haha

All teaching materials are in English, and although exam sheets are bilingual, I think nearly all candidates will answer in English.

In my Faculty most of the lecturers have passable/competant English for the purposes of course presentation, and they can handle deviations from the original topic in Malay, and as the incoming students start getting better in the language, so will the delivery medium start shifting to be more towards English.

But anyway it doesn't bother me that my lecturer deliver in Malay. After all, the terms and lingo are all English anyway (or have a Malay translation that is pretty much mimicking English). But I think more to the point I have relied mostly on the lecture material as my lecturers like to go on endless drivel or offtopic banter. Be careful especially of those Dr. Dr., so far I have only met a handful who have the capacity to stay motivated/concentrate to teach the topic they have been assigned to.

Hi all,

I wanna ask several question bout UTeM. BTW, I'm a sem 4 polytechnic student. My question is,

1) I'm now studying dip in electronic eng (computer) in polytech. So what course is suitable for me?

2) I'm graduating polytech Jun next year. So, can I apply for UTeM with my 5th sem result? Bcoz usually polytech release full transcript in August and the UPU application for diploma student close at end of February. I don't wanna waste my time waiting another year to continue for degree.

3) How much credit I can transfer there?

4) Did all students can stay in hostel until finish study there? Or they need to "sewa rumah" after some year staying at hostel?

Erm, electronic eng can consider FKE or FKEKK. Google is your friend.

Not sure about the application procedures but most of the students are from Poli over here, so I dun see any problems. As usual its best to contact the uni directly for admission procedures.

Credit transfer is on a sem by sem review basis. Some of my friends can transfer, some cannot, this depend on the Dean in charge. Cross your fingers and pray. But at least will be able to transfer 1 year worth of credits.

Compulsory to stay for 2 years, after that they boot you out unless you apply to stay back in hostel. Very easy for malays to get their application approved, from what I heard so should be no problems for u. of course most prefer to stay outside because its less oppressive atmosphere and we can pasang our own internet.

Haha I do not have their contacts currently. Not very close with the ex poli students.

You can call up the uni directly and ask. They are quite nice.

biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Got into UTeM this 28 Jun.
Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering.

I actually wanted to do Form 6 but after I had culture shock from my classmate that is kiasu and talk non stop talking Chinese. 2% Malay ( me only ) and 8 % Indian and 90% are Chinese. What do you expect . At least 40% can speak English fluently. DOTA geng yay brows.gif
( I'm not racist but you know when Chinese met Chinese they will be bickering in Chinese and not English )
and tormented by teacher asking why did I come back unsure.gif .

Haio why most lecturer are Malay ohmy.gif . And I am a Malay blink.gif .
Hopefully I will get lecturer that talk English better than Malay cause my BM suck in science term la

And I have talk to the official there and they tell me that I have to stay outside campus until next year. And YES they are very nice and helpful.

BTW Quick Question
1. Is UTeM Haunted
2. No girl aio ( Hopefully no Gay )
3. Why are the fees are extremely high Rm 1.5K and UMP is Only RM 0.5K I'm not kidding. Thought no problem with me
4. Got 3G connection sweat.gif
5. Is the library has finished constructed
6. Any tip on food notworthy.gif . I'm a big guy with a picky stomach that hate too much spicy and oily food BIG EATER
7. Banking issue. HERE bank Islam service is totally suck but I it really true that I have to pay RM 1 for each transaction made from the CIMB atm there. Since CIMB is service is good and it is a stone throw from my house. Which should I apply ?
8. Got any Japanese club there. I'm learning

Thank You reign226 for posting this helpful guideline for us the NOOB rolleyes.gif

Haha is it? In Sabah Chinese meet Chinese talk English cos all banana over there, haha. Same in Singapore too, I discover. Guess our students need to be more international a bit.

Manufac Engrg is mostly Malay lecturers talking Malay, for the most part. Not really a problem lah, cos all the material is in English anyway. They just speak Malay for the benefit of those who are not so strong in this language, but I think students nowadays are getting quite proficient in English, leaving the lecturers to catch up.

1) I don't believe in ghosts. And I have yet to hear of any haunting stories.
2) FKP got more girls, and quality ones compared to other faculties. Comparable to FTMK.
3) Not sure about the fees. I heard involves some politics (MPP guy told me) so paham paham la. Anyway its about 15K for the whole course, so just bear with it.
4) 3G? I don't think so. But I am DIGI so not 100% sure. I know u can online from hostel using the 3G wireless modem thingy from Celcom.
5) I believe so. Might delay 1 sem max.
6) Food ah...all malay food le. Sometimes even the malays here also get bored of the food, everyday eat spicy stuff and veggie that is half cooked (I guess they want the ulam taste). I don't know about halal food lah, but usually we will go outside to have decent chinese fare when the malay food gets boring. Also they tend to finish rather quickly. Furthermore next sem all will be at Durian Tunggal in the middle of nowhere so its very hard to get food. Maybe some enterprising businessman will open stalls nearby.
7) Uhh...if you are taking ptptn you have to take bank islam. The ATM will charge you RM1 for every transaction made to other banks. Usually not a problem cos if you stay near MMU, they have ATM nearby for Maybank.
8) You can have one semester of third language for Japanese. There you will see all the cute chinese girls =). Seriously don't know why the chinese girls from semenanjung msia all like to take japanese class. Whatever lah, I'm glad to be the last batch that escaped having to take third language. The clubs or whatever is not really that active here because we used to be split into 2 campus, so hard to coordinate activities. But next sem all will be in 1 campus, maybe we will see more active clubs coming up. But don't count on it, budak UTeM memang pantang extra curricular activities. Anything that we come up with, sure kantoi one.

How come you can stay outside? I thought it is policy for all students to stay in campus 2 years?

Anyway they are nice on the phone only...after u get here...you will experience the typical gov servant attitude 90% of the time. Make u wait for ages, treat u as if u r disturbing their time, etc. Lucky I don't really deal with them except when I am borrowing books from the library or paying my fees.

Anyway welcome to UTeM! Hope you will enjoy your stay here and help make this uni better. We are just ~8 years old, but already producing quality graduates with emphasis on industry.

Come 3rd week of June, I am sure more STPM students will 'discover' more about this uni =). Will try to organize an online chatting session on TinyChat when the time comes.

Went to Form 6 about a week then finally decided to go to UTeM blush.gif

The officer said I will be staying at Bukit Beruang which I have wrongly said "outside" campus laugh.gif

Yay got Celcom 3G. If that little thing work then must have coverage for 3G.
Glad that UTeM has no rumour about Ghost. Not like my school SABS eeeeeerie.

Now I can boast to my fren that will joining the FKM that FKP got more girl tongue.gif

UTeM should do more publicity I think everyone asking me sweat.gif
1. Where?
2. IPTS kan ?

Is there anything going on June 3rd there? Cause my intake is on 28 June

Private universities does have its advantages if you have the money to afford for such a service. But as far as I know, you can do your masters pretty much anywhere as long as you demonstrate a good understanding of your studies while in degree level and with a solid Final Year Project. After all, private education nowadays is just a business especially at the postgrad level.
