Since 2 months ago, I realized that Screamyx has fixed my IP into 115.134 range and the speed has been shitty. P2P speed will not go beyond 40kb for my 1mb line. No matter how many times i restart my modem, I just won't get other IP range. vmad.gif vmad.gif

After I did the speed test, I found out that my ISP is CORE IP NETWORK DEVELOPMENT and is not Terrorkom Malaysia. I believe many screamyx users face the same problem too. So let's discuss it here and figure out what's our next action plan. wink.gif

115/118 has the worst routing to USA/Europe. It also has poor routing to 60.x.x.x ip networks.

Apparently, if you check out the site, Core IP Development have support for IPv6, which probably is something good, but not for now. I can't remember there's IPv6 websites I last visit as all of them are still IPv4...

Try searching the broadband forum about Core IP Development Network.
There was an apparent explanation to the name.
As I recall Core IP is STILL Telekom. It's just a different name for a new ip range that Telekom has started and the main service provider is still Telekom.

I can still get 60.. but it took me alot of retry to get this ip. I did like over 10 times connecting and disconnectin the modem thru my pc and 4 times totally shutting it off and restart the modem and finally end up with 60. It's still there juz it more harder then last time to get this ip.

There's a simple explanation for why it's so hard to get good IP range such as 60.x.x.x

There's just a MUCH BIGGER chunk of 115.x.x.x and 118.x.x.x IPs lying around unused.

Also, depending on your account, you're assigned to what most engineers call a BRAS(pronounced bee-raaaas) - where there's a certain IP pool allocated to you.

So if you have never gotten a certain good IP your friend has gotten before, you can stop trying, that IP group? it's probably not in the list.

We should be complaining to TM/MCMC about why is there difference in routing for these different IP ranges. They may have commercial implications, I suspect 60.x.x.x is probably assigned to their business streamyx users (just maybe, i'm guessing here) - hence they probably get some kind of a better routing I guess.

But all in all, 115.x and 118.x is okaaaaaaay for surfing? but 124.x.x.x is ... you guys should try it. It's great for downloading stuff? but when it comes to gaming you're just screwed. Packet loss of 20-30% to the US.

It's just unbelievable.

Edit : Btw from what I heard from my friend, IP Core is just this new backbone they're building that will support a whole range of network services on top(over IP).. it's supposedly better in terms of bandwidth (eg. think 10gigabit for the trunks)

I know some friends who work at TM, and hence they got access to certain limited information such as these things I just told you.

But the screwed up routing based on what IP you get.. that's a complete mystery to me as to why it would happen.

There's no 'evidence' that i could provide - this is just based on my experience of working at an ISP myself before this. (no it's not TM hehe)

Edit : you know, sometimes I just wish TM would hire people who are really truly PASSIONATE users of the internet. People who jump on it and rely on it everyday for everything. Instead of the chap who .. you know, who is really knowledgeable and all but gets so busy with actual work that he hardly use the Internet at all - and hence doesn't really know if things work or not. :/ I see this happening a lot of times in ISPs - those really technical staff.. at the end of the day the last thing they would want to do is log on the net lol...

Thanks for your reply tarpaucase.
I was thinking if somebody can prove that certain IPs are no good.
For example x.x.x.x are always disconnect IPs, or y.y.y. are log in only download NG IPs,
and known widely by all the user of TM.
Then if I complain to TM, I just need to tell them x.x.x.x are no good and is proved, I don't want it. Maybe the answer is simply "sorry sir, we will change it"

But now if I tell them which IP is no good and I don't want it,
The answer will be ----right click start ....... type cmd........ sir your report number.....

Bye.

Just my own anecdotal experience... office @ damansara uptown area, using dynamic IP also, gets a 115.x (or was that 118.x, I forgot), and never gets 60.x. Connection like shiat.

At home (Shah Alam area) I almost always get 60.x, and it's way better. Opposite from most people right? Slow at home but fast at office? Haha. It's bad for work though, so slow and laggy and crap, very hard to do work because opening email takes minutes just to wait for inbox to appear, ugh.

You are using Streamyx business package right? Why don't you file a complain with TM and see what they can do? As far as I know, business users gets priority in support and customer officers were usually attentive when listening to business users' complains.

For this problem to be solve, there's a way you can prove it to them. I've.. always wanted to do this because my new home? I'm stuck on 124.x.x.x which is extremely bad if you're a gamer. I suspect it could be due to a couple of things.. my guess is..

1) different IP routes you through different gateways that TM has. Some gateways are congested as hell, and the routing is just not good to where you want to go..
2) some block of IPs probably go through some (call me paranoid but..) packetshaper-like devices - and misconfiguration of these devices are more often than not, the culprit for most applications(the ones that don't use common ports) not behaving properly. to the people who sold these devices to TM, and misconfigured them, I hope you rot in hell for all eternity.

Calling the helpdesk won't do any good. I doubt they know what's going on with your connection - it's hard to blame them as I don't think they're also given the relevant information to help you in the first place.

What I plan to do (when I have the time) - or if anyone has the time to do so for that matter, set up something like a smokeping server, ping to each of the hops to.. say a destination to the US (not the actual US hops itself) and see which hop in the network is the packet loss happening, and this has to be done over a period of 24 hours and if possible, over a week - to see if it's a congestion issue or not(well it's more like to prove if it is, i highly doubt it's a congestion thing - because latency is normal, and with congestion, it's usually associated with a rise in latency... usually)

And this ping has to be done from good IPs and bad IPs so we can see the difference.

Once that's done, I plan to email it to TM somehow and hopefully get a response from them.

Take note when talking to TM you must stressed that this issue is DOMESTIC. If you tell them "oh I have packet loss when connecting to US" and they'll tell you that networks outside of their jurisdiction, is beyond their control - which is true, there's not much they can do about that. What you need to stress to them when handling this problem is that you need to inform them that this problem is local, it's not overseas. The problem is INSIDE your local network (if it can be proven).

It's a LOT of work.. which is why now I'm THINKING of resigning to the alternative. forking out RM500 bucks for a frickin 3G USB modem to do the job instead of screamyx.. :/

i am not sure if you guys realize or not. this 115 IP is slow during day time but gives me full speed on P2P after 12am. i suspect this is screamyx's trick to throttle the users. hmm.gif  hmm.gif

still waiting for their response on my report last thursday. it has been 3 working days! will start barking them tomorrow onwards! vmad.gif  vmad.gif

Let's us know the respond from the TM smile.gif

Dunno if it proves to be true for everyone else, but the 124.x.x.x IP range seems to be perfect for me. I've only managed to get it once so far since the past few weeks, and I've tried to keep my router on the whole time.
It's been the best IP I've managed to get, in the sense that the MMO I play doesn't lag/dc at all.

After that, all the IPs I get are only 60.48.x.x, 60.49.x.x, 60.50.x.x and 60.53.x.x. All of which are bad, with 60.49.x.x being the worst. Extreme lag and frequent disconnections in-game.

I can't seem to get the 124.x.x.x IP again, but I suspect it has something to do with when you restart your router/renew your IP. It's 2am now and I haven't been getting anything else other than 60.48.x.x since 12am.

Does anybody actually have an official statement from TM/Streamyx telling of why we're having such slow connection lately? I don't recall the connection to be THAT bad before..

the behavior of certain IP ranges differs from... well the area of the users. one prime example is how ip 60.48.xx works like a heaven for me but it's friggin crawl to some users. ip 115.xx (which i'm stuck with now) gives me quite a decent speed. but with packet losses here and there. the packet loss seems to get better at night to morning though. but i totally dont like 115.xx because of the crawlings in certain hosts and even worse. blocked at all. (i get a lot lot lot lot of these)

EDIT : just for you to know. 60.48.xx gives me around 200-240kbps of all time. whether 115.xx gives me 150kbps and sometimes 230kbps max on certain time of the day.

hmmm...finally i see this thread...

damn u guys are all having this problem as well? i thought it was only me... smile.gif

well i have upgraded my 1mb package to 4mb package last year. since then, only ip range of 60.48 or 60.49 is good for me whereby everything i can at 4mb speed. surfing loads really fast, torrenting is awesome and http download speed at max.

however about 2 months ago, i see that my IP range is changed to 124.x.x.x range. no matter how many times i reconnect, its still bad.

i cannot surf properly. every page loads really slow. when i ping to local servers is ok only. but if i start pinging to servers like in indonesia, thailand and so on, packets start to loose its way.

dont need to mention about UK and US. its worst.

i dont really have the time to call and make the complain. but i might do so soon enough.

these packet losts is going crazy. i cant even surf lowyat.net most of the time. i have to refresh a few times for it.

4mb connection is more like a 384 or worst package currently.

but torrenting with utorrent 1.9beta via UDP seems to be not affected. i am able to hit max speed of about 350kbps but depending on the seeders though.

this is really weird. tmnet is really pissing me off....

I have a thread somewhere in here about this.

The problem with 124.x.x.x is that there's a packet loss problem somewhere in the local network. Some screwy equipment which seems to be working .. but is probably faulty dropping packets once awhile.

its about 20-30% packet loss to the US last I check. it's atrocious. I get 0 packet loss with my WIRELESS maxis 3G on a count of 2000 ping test - and I've always been a sceptic when it comes to wireless type connections. sheesh.

just bark them again. they stated that my area is only assigned with 1 IP block. i can prove them wrong because my office, which is just near to my house, is able to get various IPs.

just email to MCMC and ceo of TMNUT. will keep barking them at least once a day. let's see what's next!

if you're going to bark.. erm try to approach them with sensible information so you don't seem like the millions of others whos barked at them before you tongue.gif

Your area is probably assigned 1 IP block because you're connected to a particular bras (not those bras!)
Your office on the other hand, could be connected to another. There are MANY around.

My friend in damansara jaya is connected one that has multiple (bad, unfortunately) ip blocks.
Me in damansara intan just next door - locked to one bloody bad ip block.

How they assign who gets what .. is beyond me. People on the same street probably gets the same allocation but your neighbours behind you could get different ones entirely.

So the point is, it varies... quite without reason.

What we should be barking at them is why the hell different IP blocks get different routing treatment (which could ultimately be their internal policy so i don't know if things like that could be changed or not)

just my 2cents

TM can change anything, its a matter if they want to or not. You can even get a "good" IP while your next door neighbour gets a "bad" IP.

Is this Maxis broadband? Can you give more details such as initial setup costs, monthly fee and connection speed? Are you getting advertised speeds?

I only use it for gaming. I subscribed to the so-called unlimited data package (i believe there's a 3gb fair use policy per month thing) for rm100 per month. no other cost. speed is not too bad for gaming I guess, its like 800kbps downstream and like 100kbps upstream.. depends on where you are really.. but no packet loss for the mmo that i play which is the important thing.

lol roy_pck, how you get the ceo's email add? pm me if you dun mind, i want to complain as well. everytime i call 100 i will ask for the ceo email and/or the email direct to the technical team but they always ask me to email help@tm which is often replied with an automated response.

tarpaucase, u use maxis broadband to play wow? how's the latency?

the thing with the ip is, even if you somehow manage to get tmnet to allocate 60.* ip (the good ones) to your block, it's still risky. because who knows a few weeks later 60.* may become the bad ones. i used to get 218.* all the time, so i guess they assigned these ips to my block. 218.* ips are are fast and good, so no complains for me. then they scrapped off 218.* and allocate 115.* to me. 115.* was as good as 218.*, until recently around cny time. then it all went to hell. nowadays i have to keep reconnecting my PPP until i get 60.49.*. i've kept my current 60.49.* connection for a good 1 month already, i think. laugh.gif

off-topic a bit, but anyone knows of a way to circumvent the 'security' tmnet has in place where you try to reconnect too many times and then they just block you from retrying? then u have to wait for like 5-10 minutes before you can connect again. dying to know how to bypass this security mechanism.

I just call streamyx and have a long talk with one of their staff. I told her that I am lock into this 115.132 and 115.135 Ip which is very slow. Then she said my ip is dynamic, it will keep changing.

Then my blood really boil. I say: Yes, I know my ip is suppose to change but now it isn't. I'm stucked to this 115 ip and no matter how many times I restart my modem, it wont change.

You know what she reply me? She said: From here I can see your ip is changing. The first time your ip was 115.132.29.130. Then just now you restart, it became 115.132.228.223.

Maf***, I almost swear on the phone. I calmly told her that the 2 numbers behind doesnt really matter much. Its the first 2 numbers which make the differences. And now I cant get other ips except 115 ip which I hate so much.

She replied: You know IP address doesn't make a line slow or not. WTF She thought I stupid or what. Everyone is raving about this 115 IP yet she say doesnt matter.

Then she keep saying she cannot do anything because she doesnt know much about IP adress. Fark la streamyx.

those Screamyx Level 1 people really dumb. as far as i know, they are given a script and read from there. if they can't solve it by doing the troubleshooting, they will lodge a report for you. but a report is just a report, there's nothing they can do bout it.

so my suggestion is when u call them up, ask them are they from level 1 (which usually they are). skip them and insist to talk with CCD or Expert Team (level 2). Those are the people behind the system. if they say they will call you back, DO NOT TRUST THEM!!! insist to know who is the person from level 2 who will call you back and get his/ her direct number, instead of waiting them to call you (which i'm sure 99% they will not).

i'm gonna complain this 115 IP thing after i get my 4mbps line capped to 5mbps these few days brows.gif this fcuking IP has been bothering me since CNY. high ping time, slow connection, unable to P2P etc etc etc. this time gonna make it BIG. bark them everyday. bring in MCMC and media into the picture. battling with Screamyx is testing my patience. mad.gif mad.gif mad.gif

those Screamyx Level 1 people really dumb. as far as i know, they are given a script and read from there. if they can't solve it by doing the troubleshooting, they will lodge a report for you. but a report is just a report, there's nothing they can do bout it.

so my suggestion is when u call them up, ask them are they from level 1 (which usually they are). skip them and insist to talk with CCD or Expert Team (level 2).

Added on April 15, 2009, 3:01 amguys, i just changed my DSL mode from multi mode to g.dmt. it seems like my DSL status has improved a lot and my ping time is getting better, although still stuck in 115 ip. sad.gif

DSL Status:  Connected
DSL Modulation Mode:  G.dmt
DSL Path Mode:  Interleaved
Downstream Rate:  4096 kbps
Upstream Rate:  512 kbps
Downstream Margin:  31 db
Upstream Margin:  30 db
Downstream Line Attenuation:  0 db
Upstream Line Attenuation:  1.5 db
Downstream Transmit Power:  11 db
Upstream Transmit Power:  12 db

Mind to teach me how did you change your DSL mode from multi mode to g.dmt? I don't really understand what is that all about.

even I select multimode, the modem itself will sync the line to g.dmt itself...so I always get g.dmt unless I change to T.413

THE IP 115 is for a IPv6. Which is still underdevelopment.
Which should be good if they get it right. and you also must get it right too.

How should we get it right? Does it require any special configuration or something?

ok people. i got a little hope for you all.

i was stucked in 115.134 ip for few months and it really SUX. according to shitmyx my DSLAM only got 115 and 218 IP but i NEVER got 218 before. yday i called few calls & email to 100, NOC team, MCMC...shoot them really kao kao...keep pushing them to work....complaint to NOC directly...

and guess what, today i received FEW calls from them to ensure that my problem is solved. then i came back home and check.

TADAAAAAA!!!!!!! now i can get 218 ip and it ROXXX!!!!! ping time is much better than 115.....youtube HD videos can load smoothly (4mb user).

refer to my previous post on the progress of whole case. after 4 months + of effort and numerous phone calls+email..FINALLY I GOT RID OF 115 SUCKY IP!!!!!!!! HELLLL YEAH!!!!!!!

just keep calling them. it's best if you could talk directly with the NOC team. involved MCMC into the case. call to CORE IP NETWORK DEVELOPMENT department (the phone number you can google). don't listen to their bullshit that there's nothing they can do. they can do anything. it's just a matter of they want or not smile.gif

here is my speedtest result. finally my ISP is Telekom Malaysia Berhad and not stupid Core IP Network Development rclxm9.gif rclxm9.gif

Good for you, i guess doing things repeatedly will make an impact.. rclxms.gif

Keep getting 124.x.x.x & 118.x.x.x these days...located in Kuching, Sarawak...the speed seems a bit ok than before but 115.x.x.x still gives the worse speed of them all...
